WORRYING ROBS TODAY OF ITS HAPPINESS
On March 16th the devotion smacked me a little. It said this,
Don’t take yourself so seriously. Lighten up and laugh with me. You have Me on your side, so what are you worried about?
That says it all, doesn’t it? Worry will weigh us down until we feel overwhelmed and helpless. I have a little suction cup stuck to my window that has this saying hanging from it, “Worrying robs today of its happiness.”
Did you know there is a difference between worry and concern? Worrying does nothing, concern makes a plan. Worrying is debilitating and causes you to give up hope. A concerned person will persevere and pinpoint the problem. “I have no money to pay my bills” versus “I am not going to have enough money to pay the bills this month. I better sell something.”
But what if the problem is out of your control? What if there is nothing “you” can do to help the situation? How do you handle those situations? Call out to the Lord, whisper His name, lean on Him.
Psalm 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 46:1-2
God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
As usual, I am writing this message for me. I will be flying on Monday and returning on Saturday. I really hate flying and a lot of the reason is a lack of control. I cannot control the maintenance of the airplane or the competence of the pilot. I cannot control the weather or the other passengers that will be onboard the plane with me. Worrying will solve nothing. Concern only lets me check an airline’s safety rating and choose one that has a good record. Calling on the Lord to be with me and to deliver me safely is the path I am choosing. He is my rock, He is my fortress, He is my deliverer.
Please say a small prayer for me as I travel this coming week.
Have A Blessed Day.
Traveling mercies,enjoy the journey!
God had to have led you to
deliver this message to me today!! I am also a worrier, and end up with a lot of anxiety from it. I’ve begun reading my bible during my extra 20 minutes before work each morning instead of checking my facebook and let me tell you how much more it helps me start my day and get through my day! I worry less and know I am a much nicer person to be around! Prayers for you and all of us to stop worrying and put our trust in the Lord, and for safe travels for you Tania ❤
Very true indeed, we waste so much time in our lives worrying about things that will likely never come to pass and we of course worry on behalf of others safety and happiness but that is love for you! I travel often for business and I HATE it, nothing glamorous or fun or exciting about it so totally get it. Bring something with you that gives you peace, for me is a ring made out of a tie pin that belonged to my Grandfather whom I adored! If he is with me nothing bothers me. Happy trails and enjoy your adventure!
I too, read Jesus Calling, every day Tania! And yes, I will be praying for you to have a safe and enjoyable flight and for you and your sister to have so much fun together! Enjoy you so much!
Thank you for this. Safe travels. ?
Thank you Tania!!!! I always think of the scripture in Matthew 7 about the birds not worrying. When my youngest son was younger I taught him that scripture and said….do ya think the birds are going around saying….chirp..chirp…chirp….We can’t find a worm. So if God will take care of the birds and the lilies of the field….don’t you think he will take care of us (his children) too? I know first hand that’s easier said than done. So when I start to worry I think about what I taught my son. I prayed for a hedge of protection around you and will continue too. Have a wonderful trip. ~Lisa~
Have a beautiful Sunday!
I will keep you in my prayers for a safe trip. Don’t worry and have a wonderful time. Remember God is with you!
Such true words Tanya, and a wonderful reminder for us all.
Safe travelling.
OMG! I JUST finished reading today’s reading in Sara Young’s Jesus Calling, and then I get your post on worrying! Something I have been working on! Can’t do anything about the past or the future! And you are so right; it can sure rob us of happiness in the present. ?
(P.S. It’s “Its” in your title, not “It’s.” Can’t believe the graphic is even wrong!)
