WHAT TO WEAR IN ALASKA
The vacation is winding down and while I hate saying goodbye to Ashleigh but I am looking forward to getting back to home. I miss being in my own house, I miss sleeping in my own bed, and I miss my routine. It is funny how we get set in our routines and it is hard to change.
We took a 7-hour tour out to Tracy Arm. At the end of the fjord were two Glaciers, the Sawyer and the South Sawyer. As we started getting closer to our destination we started seeing floating pieces of ice. This was the largest piece of ice we saw and it was way larger than the boat we were own. I have to be honest the movie Titanic kept coming to mind.
Here on this smaller piece of ice, you see a couple of harbor seals taking a rest. They say that the seals come up in this area to have their pups because they are more protected from predators.
This is the South Sawyer Glacier. It is the one that has been dropping all the ice. It is breaking apart and retreating and it has retreated over a mile since last year.
This is the Sawyer Glacier and it is way more stable. It has almost reached equilibrium, not advancing or retreating. You can see this Glacier is more solid looking than the other one.
If you visit Alaska or any place that is colder you need to layer to stay warm. I started with an underlayment hooded top. You want this top to be tight fitting and hug your body. If the top clings to your body then air can not flow up under the top and get you cold. Then I wore a sweatshirt on top of the underlayment. This was a really cute and extremely soft sweatshirt that I bought while I was here in town. Ashleigh is friends with the girl was designs and makes this tops.
Next, I added a jacket for warmth. This jacket is lightweight and warm but it is not waterproof. There is one my daughter’s jacket and it is by Arcteryx. I wore this the entire time I was here, I wonder if she will miss this when I pack it in my bag.

Since we are hoping to go on an Alaskan cruise for my mom’s 80th birthday (she’s my 70+ model on my blog), this is great info!! Although, I may have to borrow stuff—I don’t have any rain gear because it’s so dry here in Denver!!
XOXO
