WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A SUMMER WEDDING
I heard all of you loud and clear on yesterday’s post. I gather that you liked the more relaxed outdoor setting so I will see what I can do about trying to make that happen more often. I love taking pictures outdoors also but it has a completely different set of rules than taking pictures on my porch. I have to pay attention to the sun and it can’t be in my eyes but it needs to be on my face. It can’t be raining and I need to pay close attention to what is in the background. Those are actually hard problems to overcome but I am going to give it a go. When it rains though, I will be under the porch. Lol! I love keeping it real but I don’t think anyone wants to see flat, wet hair and makeup that is running. If that appeals to you then I will take my pictures when I get out of the shower. Lol!!!
I spent Friday afternoon talking to a friend on the phone and then when Joe came home we moved out to the patio for a few drinks. He and I talked for a few minutes and then he decided that he wanted to take a shower in his new outdoor shower. He asked me to go in and get him a towel, shampoo, and another drink. I started laughing and of course, he demanded to know why I was laughing. I told him that he reminded of a tee-shirt that I saw once. It said, “Cool story babe, now go fix me a sandwich.” Men, we are always at their beck and call. Lol! Or, maybe it is just mine that is spoiled beyond belief.
One of the things that I love about summer is that it seems to be the season on weddings. I get a ton of emails that ask me what they should wear to a summer wedding. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this cute shift dress. I bought this dress from Sable and Sail at TJ Maxx. I love the shift dress style, it works the best for me. It fits through the bodice but doesn’t touch me in the waist area which is where I carry my most weight. I loved the two-tone color block style of this dress and I love the stand-up collar that frames your face. You can wear it up or down like it is here. I just think that this style of dress would be perfect for a wedding, especially if it is an outdoor wedding.
Just so you know, after I had finished my drink I sent Joe in to “fetch” me another one. You didn’t think that I was going to wait on him without repaying the favor, did you? I said, “O’ Garson, I need another drink.” Lol!
Two minutes before I started typing this last section I got an email from Rodan + Fields. They were congratulating me on earning an expense paid trip to New Orleans in September. I already knew that I had earned the trip but it was nice to see the confirmation email. Then as I was finishing reading that email, another popped up from them. It was asking for my “headshot” for being recognized at Convention. You would think that someone who takes their picture every day would have one of those but you would be wrong! Now, I need to see if I can find a local photographer to take some headshots for me. I HATE having someone else take my photo. I still get tight and tense when someone else takes my photo so this might be interesting. lol! My kids used to tease me and call me “turtle” because of how bad I looked in photos. Who would have ever imagined that someone called turtle would ever start a blog?
BTW, you didn’t think that I would leave before showing a pic of the outdoor shower, did you???
I really appreciate all of the shares and the pins of my outfits that you have been doing. PLEASE continue to do that, you won’t believe the difference it has made in my number of visitors to my blog.

I love Nordstrom for dresses for all shapes, easy try on at home and free shipping both ways! I laughed out loud at the shower pic. Thanks for the entertainment with my coffee and for always keeping it real!
Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! Poor Joe! You two have a wonderful relationship 🙂
I also wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed your blog and I will miss reading it after Joe kills you. LOL
ROFL!!!!! : D
Loved reading this post!!!??? I have a wedding to go to next month and it’s on a Friday evening in a city setting (semi-formal attire). I was going to buy a summery dress, but i decided to go with my little black dress!! It is slimming, comfy (isn’t that what it’s about?) and it looks good on me.
You and Joe are a trip!! ?? Love the picture of “Nature Man” in your new outdoor shower, which is awesome i might add!!
I actually like your porch pictures because there are no distractions. I do like the occasional location shots just for fun. It’s all perfect ?
Girl you are a Hoot !!! -who else is gonna show us their husband in the shower . Y’all are a perfect pair , and you sure look great in that dress. I too look best in that shift style (they hide a lot) and I noticed that you wore that style a lot when you were in Cancun and you looked like a model……. tell Joe that !
What a great “cool and comfortable” outfit. So perfect for summer! Enjoy the weekend!
It would be fun if your pictures were around town in coffee shops, boutiques, historic homes, and where you work
Great wedding look!
Great choice, looks perfect for an outdoor wedding, You tied it all together with the accessories! Perfect!
My comments are the same as Stylish at 60! You look great but I find weddings, especially summer ones, tough to dress for. I think dresses are best but it’s hard to fit a pear shape. Then: culture/religion, formal, casual or in between, inside or out, time of day, etc. This summer I’m going to one in a conservation area, the bride is wearing Birkenstocks with a white formal wedding dress and we are ending the evening roasting s’mores over a fire pit. ??
At a quick glance your shift dress looks like a top and skirt. You are amongst the lucky ones to be able to wear this style ? myself, being a size smaller top to bottom find it impossible. Love your look.
