50 Is Not Old | GrandmotherI have 4 wonderful grandchildren! Three of them live in Tennessee, and one lives right next door. I remember the debate I had with the Tennessee gang’s other grandmother, about what we wanted to be called when the first grandchild was born. We finally decided on Nana. She would be Nana Teresa, and I would be Nana Tania. Pretty original, huh? hahaha50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

When I was a child, most grandmothers were called “granny”, or at least everyone I knew was. I had a granny Lewis and a granny Meadows, once again we were original. Lol! I never even thought anything about the name, it was just what we called them.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

Granny is what my children called my mother, but they called Joe’s mother, maw maw. I think that was what the children in his family were used to calling their grandmothers. Nowadays, you don’t hear those terms very often. Instead, there are all kind of fancy names for grandmothers.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

Kris Jenner (Kim Kardashian’s mother) wants to be called Lovey. That is actually a cute name, and not one that you would normally associate with being a grandmother. I know several MiMi’s, a couple of Gee’s, and lot’s of Nana’s. My sister’s daughter calls our mom, “M”. She calls her other grandmother the same thing, so to keep them separate, my mother is “M on the mountain”, and the other grandmother is “M at the beach.” Haha  It just so happens that both of the grandmother’s names start with M.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

My youngest son tried to tease me when his little girl was born. He would call me all kind of names that he thought sounded “old.” I told him that he did not bother me at all. I didn’t care what she called me, just as long as she called. So, eventually he gave up and started calling me nana, since that was what the other grandchildren called me.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

One day I was babysitting for the little monkey, and I was feeding her. She was sitting in the high chair at my back patio door. I stepped out the door to let Beckley (my Yorkie) back in, and she thought I was leaving. She screamed, “Nee Nee!” From that day on, I was NeeNee. Well, occasionally it is NaaNaa, when she has her southern drawl going. It is funny how they will decide what your name will be.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

Now, let’s talk fashion. I am trying not to wear my spring outfits yet, but this vest was just staring at me this morning and begging to be worn. So I compromised and wore it with a pair of faux suede leggings. Spring is a strange time of the year, weather wise. You had better be prepared for temperature fluctuations. Here is Virginia, it can rain, sleet, snow, and the sun shine all in one day. The temperatures have been known to change 30 to 40 degrees all in a single day. So in the spring, I like to wear long sleeves, or a jacket. I am cold natured, and am always cold. If I get hot, I can always shed a layer. This long sleeve paisley vest is one that I bought a couple years age at DressBarn. I had already paid for my purchases, but spotted this as I left the store. Of course I turned around and bought the vest and the matching long sleeve t-shirt. You can wear the vest tied or let the tails hang down in front. Here and here are a couple cute vests. And here is a basic long sleeve t-shirt in ALL kinds of colors. If you can’t find a color you like there, then you are too picky. Haha  The faux suede leggings were from Cato’, but they are no longer available. They are super soft and I like the feel of them. I found myself rubbing my leg all throughout the day. Lol! Here is a pair that looks identical to mine. I wore these before, and here is how I styled them. Which way do you like best?

Now for the jewelry. Everything except my Michael Kors watch, is by Chloe & Isabel. I was first introduced to Chloe & Isabel this past fall when I won a giveaway. I won an Atlas three-row necklace, and I have worn that thing ever since. I absolutely love it! So, the other day, I decided to sign up as a stylist. I have never done this kind of thing before, so that is saying something about how I feel about this jewelry. Anyway, the necklace, the matching earrings, and the multi-wrap bracelet, I have on came in my introductory kit. Their jewelry is backed by a life-time guarantee, hypoallergenic, lead safe, and nickel-free. If you are ever interested in having an online trunk party, let me know and I can set you up. That is the easiest way to earn FREE merchandise. I like free!!!50 Is Not Old | GrandmotherThis cobalt blue tote was one that I bought at either TJ Maxx, Ross’s or Marshall’s. I forget where it came from. Hahaha I am going with the reason that I forgot, is that I have a lot of clothing, and not that my memory is bad. Here is a similar one that is REVERSIBLE.

Are you a grandmother? What are you called? Does being called “Granny” make you any older? If you are a grandmother, then what is your name?

  1. My kids call my mom Grammie and my husbands mom Nana. I love both. 🙂

    That vest is GORG!!!

  2. We were posted overseas in Africa when my first grandson started to get to the age to join us on Skype. My son would always call me “African Grandma” which was okay, but I didn’t want to get stuck with that moniker as we would not always be living in Africa! The next best grandma name for him “GoGo” which means Grandmother in SiSwati, national language of Swaziland, Africa. Who know how long that will last…

  3. I am the proud grandma to five beautiful grandchildren. They call me “grandma from the lake” since we have a lake cabin we all enjoy together. They call their grandmas on the in-law side “grandma from the farm” and “grandma from the ranch” since one has a farm and the other a ranch. Love all of those little ones to pieces. They are such an amazing gift.

  4. I am not a grandma yet but I will definitely want to be called Nana. I only knew one of my grandmothers and that is what we called her. Precious memories! Also, I love your outfit. The colors in the vest match so well with your top…such a fashionista! ?

  5. I have 2 grand babies (and only 1 is talking so far! 🙂 ) and she calls me Mamaw. That is what I called my grandmother. I remember before Bella was born I was talking with my friend about what I would be called and she said the same thing someone said earlier… they can call you dirt as long as they call you… and I thought, How true!!!! Although I do like Mamaw better :). My girls call my mom grandma. I LOVE your blog and am so glad I found it!!!!!

  6. My grand kids in California call me Grandma or Gram and my grandchildren here in PA call me Mimi. I never had a grandmother – my mom’s mother left when she was young and my dad’s mother died when he was 19. It has been a great joy being a grandma and the best part is that I can send them back to their parents and then take a nap! LOL! Btw, love your outfit today!

  7. Karen Ward says:

I am called Gigi. My stepson’s little boy was born October 4, 2013. My son called to tell me that his girlfriend was pregnant BEFORE he told his mother. I told him I had dibs on Mimi but when he told his mom, she said she wanted to be called Mimi. Since she was the “blood” grandmother, I let her have it without a fuss and settled for Gigi. I’m called by several names – Karen, KK, Kakes, etc – but now, Gigi is my most FAVORITE name. I love hearing my sweet boy’s little voice saying “hey Gigi!!”.

  8. I’m not a grandma but I have 2 wonderful nieces though!! Love your outfits. You’re always an inspiration for me for what to wear! I live in Texas and the weather is like Virginia – it’s been known to be 30 one day & 75 the next!!! Thanks for the posts. I really enjoy reading yours!

    1. Lori, it really makes it hard to dress!

  9. I don’t know of anyone (personally) that goes by MawMaw or Granny here in Michigan. I have always thought that was more common in the south. I think that Lovie is very cute, but hadn’t heard of it yet when we were deciding what term of endearment I would be called. I am lovingly refered to as Grammy, and my husband is Papa.

Cute story though regarding my mother in law’s “name” by her Great Grandchildren. When my grandson was young, we went on a family camping trip and at a 9 months old we were having a difficult time getting him to sleep one night. My MIL volunteered to walk around with him and while she was doing so, she was humming and muttering in a sing-song voice “lalalala”. Anyway, from that time on, whenever he saw her, he would say “lala” and point at her. Thus the name she is called by pretty much all of us now in the family “Grandma LaLa”. I love it!!!!

    1. That is an adorable story?

  10. Oh! I forgot to comment on your outfit. It truly is my favorite outfit that you’ve styled. Very cute, and chic!
