TODAY I AM WEARING HAND ME DOWNS AND I LIKE IT
It is hard to get back in the swing of things when you’ve been on a holiday vacation. Taking a little time off is good for the soul, but it isn’t good for motivation. I had to drag myself up and make myself get dressed for photos. You might say that I’ve been lax on putting on makeup this past week, which is not something that I usually do. When my granddaughter came over, she was shocked!
I tried to get bowls, plates, serving utensils, etc., together for Thanksgiving dinner. Since we are splitting our time between two houses, I can’t keep up with what I have in each place. We decide to have Thanksgiving dinner in the new house since it is closer to my son, who lives in Tennessee.
My daughter and I gathered things together, and I asked my DIL to bring me some stuff from the other house. Makeup was the last thing on my mind, so I looked pretty ragged when my granddaughter walked into the house. She took one look at me and said, “NeeNee, are you alright?” I assured her that I was fine and asked her why she was asking. She said, “you just look weird without your makeup on.” Lol! I thought Joe would pee his pants; he was laughing so hard.
I figured that I would brighten your day with a colorful story and a bright pink cable knit sweater. I am a sucker for anything with a cable knit design, and pink is one of my favorite colors, so this sweater is perfect for me. The sweater is thick and cozy and perfect for wearing with high-waisted jeans. It is relaxed but not oversized, and I am wearing a medium.
When I went to Tennessee to pick up my daughter, my mother had a few items to give my sister and me. She gave me this gold watch necklace that was my grandmother’s, and she gave my sister her (mom’s) wedding band. The ring that I am wearing was my great-aunt’s, and my sister, daughter, and niece also got a ring. Pieces that have a family connection are more precious to me than the Hope diamond. These are the kind of hand-me-downs that I like!
Here is the look of the sweater from the back. It is a cropped fit, but it isn’t so short that you have to worry about your stomach showing. I’m wearing a pair of modern ankle straight-leg jeans with my sweater. I love the medium color of these jeans, and I think straight-leg jeans are the overall most flattering for most people. I’m wearing my usual size 10, and they are a tad loose but not baggy.
The chestnut ankle booties have a wonderfully sturdy block 3″ heel. I like these pointy toe boots since they elongate your leg and are a great neutral color that will go with everything. These boots also have a western look which is extremely popular at the moment. The boots are faux-suede and at a great price.
Today is Cyber Monday, so that means that a LOT of deals will be hitting the stores. I am traveling back to Tennessee to take my daughter to hop a plane back to Alaska. (Insert sobbing) It has been wonderful having her in town with us, but I can tell that she is bored out of her mind. It seems there is a lot of outdoor activities in Alaska that aren’t available here.
Anyway, I will try to update all of the sales info on the Steals and Deals page, along with my best picks. Look for a “special” email to hit your inbox later today.

Pretty in pink! Love the story about your hand me downs.
Love that watch! I had my grandmother’s wedding band and now my daughter has it. These things are best when shared. Love the pink sweater!
I love the pink sweater. My Mom has a gold watch that was given to my paternal grandmother on her wedding day. I’m not sure who will be the lucky one to receive that gem.
I love all of your hand me downs. I’ve been lucky all of the women in my family were savers.
That sweater you have on looks wonderful on you. The color just brightens up your face.
Happy Holidays….

Love the sweater, just not turtle neck! I prefer a v neck sweater. 🌸
This darling pink sweater is going to be fun to wear all winter! I always enjoy your blog and love the mix of fashion, self-care, faith, and family. Would also be great to see how you stay organized as you “downsize” from one home to the other. We also have the same situation facing us in a few years and I have difficulty getting rid of things I (or someone) may need some day. I think being an elementary teacher and always hunting and gathering for supplies on the cheap for 26+ years has prompted this “save everything” mentality. Would love for you to share your thought process on deciding what make the trip to your new home.
Keep being your classy and funny self,
Kim
Tania, Bless your sweet heart the jewelry you received from your Mother and Aunt aren’t hand-me-downs. They are heirlooms, a valuable object that belonged to your family.
Loved your whole outfit today! That shade of pink looks gorgeous on you!
That pink sweater is a great color. May have to add that to my closet.
I have some pieces of hand-me-down jewelry that I just love!
