Trusting God When Life Takes an Unexpected Turn
When Life Changes Without Warning
You can be going along like normal, doing the same things you always do, thinking about dinner, laundry, what you’ve got planned for the week…
And then suddenly, everything changes. Not gradually. Not with a little warning ahead of time. Just… all at once.
Life has a way of doing that.
One minute you feel like you’ve got a handle on things, and the next minute you’re standing there thinking, Well… I didn’t see that coming.
We Like Predictable… God Works in Purpose
If I’m being honest, I like predictability. I like knowing what my day is going to look like, what I need to get done, and how everything is going to flow. I function a whole lot better when life stays inside the lines I’ve drawn for it.
But life doesn’t always stay inside those lines. And neither does God.
Because while I’m over here trying to keep everything neat and manageable, God is working with something much bigger than my schedule.
He sees what’s ahead.
He knows what’s needed.
And He is already in the middle of it before I even realize something has changed.
Faith Doesn’t Always Look Like Confidence
I think sometimes we imagine faith looking strong and unshaken. Like we’re supposed to stand tall, never worry, never question, and just calmly say, “I trust God,” without a second thought. But real life doesn’t usually look like that.
Sometimes faith looks like whispering a quick prayer while your mind is racing. Sometimes it looks like taking the next step when you’d rather freeze. Sometimes it looks like saying, “Lord, help me,” more times than you can count in a single day.
And that still counts.
Actually, I think that’s the kind of faith that draws us closer to Him.
God Is Not Caught Off Guard
Here’s the part I keep coming back to. Nothing that happens to us is a surprise to God.
Not the sudden moments.
Not the ones that make your heart drop.
Not the situations that leave you scrambling to adjust.
He is not reacting. He is already there.
And while we’re trying to figure out what just happened, He is already working behind the scenes, lining things up in ways we can’t see yet.
That doesn’t mean everything feels easy. It just means we’re not walking through it alone.
Right Before Easter…
And isn’t it interesting that this season reminds us of that?
Because right before Easter, everything looked like it had gone terribly wrong.
Nothing made sense.
Everything felt uncertain.
And the people who loved Jesus were left trying to understand what had just happened.
It didn’t look like hope. But it was.
God was doing His greatest work in what looked like the worst moment.
One Day, One Step, One Prayer
So when life shifts suddenly, and you find yourself adjusting to something you didn’t plan for…
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to map out the next ten steps. You just take the next one.
You say the next prayer. You do what’s in front of you. And you remind yourself of Proverbs 3:5–6.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
So instead of trying to figure everything out, you lean into Him. You trust that God is already ahead of you, making a way, even when you can’t see it yet.
Before You Go
If life has thrown you something unexpected lately, I want you to hear this.
You are not alone. God is already in your tomorrow, even if today feels a little uncertain. And somehow, in ways we don’t always understand in the moment…
He is working it all together for good.
To GOD Goes The Glory!
Have A Blessed Day!
Let’s End With A Prayer
Lord,
Life can change so quickly, and sometimes it catches me off guard. Help me to trust You, even when I don’t understand what’s happening.
Calm my thoughts, steady my heart, and remind me that You’re already in this moment with me.
Help me take it one step at a time, leaning on You instead of trying to figure everything out on my own.
Amen.
