Whenever I post about affordable outfits, I know you gurls are going to love it! So, if I post about THREE affordable outfits, are you going to love it even more??? In fact, you should love it THREE times more! I can’t wait to show you all of these affordable outfits, so let’s get going. BTW, even though Lucy doesn’t look thrilled, she is pleased with these outfits. Lol!

Affordable outfits can come from many different retailers, even ones that you wouldn’t normally associate with the term affordable. For example, when I mention Nordstrom, affordability isn’t the first thing that pops into my mind. Instead, I think of things like free shipping, customer service, anniversary sale, and designer items.

Brands with Affordable Outfits from Nordstrom

Here are some of my favorite affordable brands available at Nordstrom. You can search by brand, so keep these in mind when you shop there.

Even when shopping at stores such as Kohl’s, JCPenney, Walmart, or Target, I have my favorite brands that I will filter by first. Back in February, I did a post talking about the different retailers who had affordable fashions. I sometimes find other items that aren’t by these brands, but these are the ones that I check out first.

First off, I hope you are looking at the clothing and not at my hair. What was I thinking??? Oh, well, my mother tells me that she pays me no attention and only looks at my outfits, so I guess that is how the rest of you read the blog too. B.T.W., thanks, Mom, you’re supposed to be paying attention to your daughter, not the clothes. Lol!

I have to admit; this button-front ruffle blouse is way cuter than I thought it would be. I hesitated to order it because I was not sure if I would like the colors. For some reason, the blouse looks like it has a hint of blue, but it is all dark green. The round part in the print is gold metallic so that it would be cute for the holidays.

If you are any size other than an X.S., you can forget about this top. Even though that is a bummer, the good news is that it is available in BEAUFORT BLUE FLEURS, and that was the one that I wanted to order, but I decided that I had already posted something similar. There are several colors and prints to choose from, some have sheer sleeves, and some don’t. I ended up ordering a large, and I think the fit is great.

If you don’t like wearing white after Labor Day, then you might like these Croft & Barrow beige (looks like winter white to me) straight-leg corduroy pants. I ordered the tall version because I wanted to wear them with my ankle boots that have a platform sole. The standard inseam is 30 1/2″, and the tall is 32 1/2″. I am wearing my usual size 10, and they fit great.

Before I even mention anything about the top, I want you to notice that this top, and the one before too, would look great with the beige/winter white pants. To create affordable outfits, try to make sure that your purchase can be worn with multiple pieces of clothing. I call this my mix and match style, and it works wonders to save you money.

This cream plaid peasant top is one of those tops that isn’t a star of an outfit, but it is a lovely complimentary co-star. The color palette is muted neutrals, so that is one reason why it doesn’t stand out. There are some details like the sleeves and the banded neckline, but they are also muted. If you don’t like drawing attention to yourself, then this might be the type of top you desire. I’m wearing a medium which is plenty large enough for me. The misses sizes are limited, but I see that the Petite sizes are still plentiful.

I am having the worst luck when it comes to inventory today. These soft khaki pants are also limited in size. UGH!!! The problem is, there is a huge sale going on right now, and everyone is making purchases while they can save money. I’m wearing my usual size 10, and the pants fit me great.

Moving along, we have a casual look that has lots of style, details, and color. The pants have all of the color, but the style detail on the sweater has pizzaz all on its own.

Over 40 fashion blogger, Tania Stephens, is wearing a cream Pointelle sweater

This cream sweater has plenty of sizes available, AND it comes in several colors! I bought the sweater because of the Pointelle design down the sweater’s front and down the sleeves. However, as cute as that design is, I believe I like the softness of the sweater the most. When it comes to softness, that is hands-down my number one must-have with clothing.

I recently bought some sweater pants for lounging around the house, and since I’ve put them on every time I take them out of the dryer, I went in and ordered myself two more pairs in different colors. Plus, since I loved the softness of the pants, I ordered the matching hoodies sweaters also. I ordered a medium in the pants and a large in the hoodie. Mauve is the color that I have, and I ordered teal and pink this morning.

I love these straight-leg corduroy pants, and I think they will be fabulous during the holidays. I love these deep plum color, and I think it looks very luxurious. These are the same pants that I wore above in winter white, but these look entirely different. It is funny how color makes a difference in how things look. I am once again wearing a 10 tall, and they fit wonderfully.

I also wanted to talk to you ladies about comments. It is awesome that so many of you are leaving comments and are even commenting to each other. I’m not ignoring your comments; I just try not to answer to not mess up the number of comments for the random giveaway. Feel free to email me if you have a question that needs to be answered, tania@50isnotold.com

Also, one more thing, if you don’t like an outfit, that is fine. We all have different tastes, etc., so that is to be expected. However, please don’t leave a comment such as, “that outfit is ugly,” “I would never wear that,” or “that’s so frumpy.” It has nothing to do with my feelings; I don’t want another lady who had previously loved the outfit to think that HER taste in clothing is wrong. Remember, if you can’t say something nice, just don’t say anything at all. Lol! I want to keep this website as a place of encouragement. You can always email me if you think that something is ugly. Hahaha!

  35. The plum pants do look very rich.

  36. Lucy might like her dog bed by you when you are doing photos. My dog has bot a mat and a bed that she loves to settle into when I am moving. Yet she is still close by!

  37. Thank you for your post on affordable outfits. Having recently lost a lot of weight, I am starting over with a whole different view of what I can wear! My favorite from this post are the corduroy pants!

  38. Sharleen Millering says:

  44. I love every one of these outfits! Just sad that my size isn’t available in all of them! The deep plum pants you styled – is that the mason plum? I’ve started following you recently and love your style!

Hope you have a blessed day!!

    1. Yes, they are the Mason Plum color.

  45. Loved the outfits today. I already have a cream sweater and plum cords, so I’ll shop my closet@

  46. Katherine says:

Tania, You look adorable, your hair, out fits.
Question for you? Have you ordered the Red Velvet Verb Energy Bars yet?

    1. Katherine, I ordered that sampler pack, but I haven’t gotten it yet.

  47. the outfits are great, love the choices, already placed an order

  48. Melissa Bingham says:

I think your hair is cute today! I do like the cream corduroy pants, but I do think they are just slightly too long; they shouldn’t be bunching up at the bottom. But all the outfits are super cute!

    1. Melissa, the reason the pants are too long is that I ordered a tall. I don’t intend to wear them with these shoes, but with some that have a platform heel and I would need the extra length.

  49. Linda M Holmes says:

I never notice your hair; just like your mom I look at your wardrobe. Thanks for your introductions to stores I never though of purchasing in. You have not only helped me make my wardrobe current but you have helped me to have fun with clothes again.Every day I start my day with your site and a good cup of coffee. Looking good and living on SS is not always easy however; with what you show being smartly dressed is possible. Thanks, Linda

  50. I like the cords in the plum and the ivory sweater. I like the LC blouse as well.
Love your hair! Don’t worry about it at all.

I have been ordering different pants and jeans this season.

I wish retailers would say what the leg opening widths are at the bottom.

Its confusing as we transition from skinny to straight to slim pants.

There’s skinny, super skinny, straight, slim straight , bootcut and flare.

I’ve ordered slim straight and they end up what I would say is skinny and bootcut which end up flares.

    I’ve been returning a lot.

I’m hoping I can make it to the US soon for shopping as the border is opening!!

  51. Love seeing the different outfits you put together and it has inspired me to be more adventurous. Don’t understand why people feel the need to leave negative comments. Have a great day.

  52. Holly Pickering says:

Why did you mention your hair? It’s DARLING, I love it. I think you look smashing in all these outfits. Very glad you brought up the point of positive comments! Good grief, some people think they can say anything online and it’s ok…well, it’s not! Our generation was taught what you said…if you can’t say anything nice, KEEP QUIET! Lol lol. Have a great day!

  53. Carolyn McMahon says:

I think you hair looks great in these photos, Tania! Modern and flirty 🙂

  55. I’m really wanting to try some corduroy this year. They look great on you. Thanks for the inspiration!

  56. Carrie Martin says:

I already have the tops and sweater. I just placed an order for the corduroy pants except for the cream pair. Unfortunately, they were all sold out of 6/8. Super cute outfits!

  57. I am newly fifty and love reading your blog. Thank you so much for including the Bible verse.

  58. I have been buying some of the items you have shown from Kohls. I’ve been buying some of the lower priced items because I have been losing weight and I still have a ways to go. You take time to put these together and it inspires me to take time to feel put together each day, even on Saturday when you wear your lounge clothes!

I think your hair looks great! Very sassy!
What size are you wearing in the cream sweater? Fits you well but looks very large on the store model.

    1. I am wearing a medium in that sweater.

  87. Tania, loved these outfits, the only thing for me is I am not a fan of wide legs. At 5’3″ i think it makes me look so squatty. I also love that you show affordable places to shop and giving us the names of the brands that you like. Thanks

  88. Ginger Hiller says:

Well, I just ordered the sweater set from Target that you mentioned in the pink! I really like all three outfits, with the deep plum pants and sweater being my favorite. I have Kohl’s cash to use, so if I have enough tops to wear with them, I will give them a try. Have a blessed day!

Thanks for posting!

  108. Rolla Herman says:

Thanks for introducing me to the Sophia Vergara line. I would have never thought to look at that brand. I bought the faux motor jacket and love it. Found a cute Tee for an unbelievably reasonable price .
