THIS OR THAT WITH WHITE FLARE JEANS
I am still trying to play catch-up from my trip last weekend. I’ve been working hard, trying to get photos taken, clothing ordered, and posts written to be a couple of days ahead of schedule. I had managed to get around four days ahead, and then, poof… it’s all gone.
Traveling to my mom and dads, working a day at the lumber company we own, and a weekend trip to The Biltmore Estates has depleted all of my previous work, so now I am scrambling again. I’ve gotten ahead with photos, so currently, I’m working on getting a couple of posts written early. There are many wonderful things about blogging, but a seven-day-a-week schedule is not one of them. We are talking about taking a vacation (the first in two years) in April, and I want to be far enough ahead in my work that I can relax and enjoy myself. If you don’t hear from me, I’ll be in my basement typing away. Lol!
For this week’s THIS or THAT post, I will be styling one pair of white jeans and styling them differently. This floral-smocked puff short sleeve top is beautiful!!! I love the style and the smocked neckline, but the bright floral colors are what I love. The button-up shirt is 100% linen, and the care instructions say it can be machine washed, line dried, and ironed with low heat.
The length is perfect and can be worn out or tucked in. It hits me right at my hips, and I think this is a flattering length. I am wearing a size 10 top, and it fits great. It is slightly fitted but is still loose enough not to show lumps and bumps.
I am really into green right now; I’m blaming it on St. Patrick’s Day. So, when I spied this cute Rebecca Minkoff snake-embossed green leather satchel, I wanted to check it out. It is a small handbag, so all of you petite ladies who need smaller bags might like this “pop of color” bag. I was surprised that it held as must as it did, and I liked that you could zip it closed for more security.
Here is another view of the satchel so that you can see how it looks when worn on the shoulder. It also has a detachable shoulder strap, but I didn’t get a pic of that with it. In this photo, you can see the silver studs that line the bag and handle.
I like these high-waist flare jeans! They feel great and have quite a bit of stretch to them. The inseam is 33″, so I knew that I would need platform shoes with them. It seems like most flare jeans are made long for that reason. I ordered a size 30 because I usually size up in white pants and jeans. I don’t like them to fit so tight that you can see through them. But these were just a little too loose for my taste, and I’ll probably send them back for a size 29. I had been thinking about ordering the Spanx white flare jeans, but their inseam is 34″ (32″ for Petites), and they are $50.00 more, so I’ll give this pair a try first.
Here are the platform shoes that I am wearing. These slip-on platform shoes have a lightly padded insole, so they are pretty comfortable to walk in. My biggest peeve with them was that the sole wasn’t wooden. I’m sure it is synthetic because of a weight issue, but the wooden sole would have looked nicer. I ordered my actual size, and they fit great.
Now, let’s move on to a completely different look. This outfit is dressier than the floral one, but it is just as lovely. There are times when I need a slightly dressier look, but I don’t want to be dressed to the nines.
This black and white outfit would be perfect for those times. It is a dress/casual outfit and would work in most situations, especially since black and white is a classic combination. The jeans keep the outfit on the casual side, while the black and white blouse gives the look a dressier vibe.
The dressier details of this black and white dotted blouse are the shirring at the neck and around the cuffs, plus the sheer sleeves are gorgeous. The sheer sleeves give a glimpse of skin without showing too much, and I know many women like to have coverage on their upper arms. I’m wearing a medium blouse, and it is still roomy and flowy, and I like the way it fits.
These Ivory Mother of Pearl Link Earrings just arrived, and they are beautiful! You can wear the earrings as I have them, or you can remove the stone link and wear them as huggies instead. These MOP earrings are dressy enough to wear with a cocktail dress, but they look great with jeans.
I decided to try a neutral shoe with this outfit. I love wearing espadrilles in the spring and summer, so I ordered this tan pair to check out. Truthfully, I didn’t think I would like these shoes because they have an ankle strap, and I am not keen on ankle straps. Sometimes my ankles swell, probably because I sit so much, and ankle straps can be a problem. But, these were very comfortable and didn’t give me any issues at all, so they got a big thumbs up from me. Lol! These are dressier-looking platform wedge shoes, and they would look great with summer dresses. The shoes run true to size, and I’m wearing my usual size 9. The espadrilles are also available in clear and black if you already have a pair of neutral shoes.
Experimenting is part of what I do with every outfit. I’ll try one thing and then another until I like what I’m wearing. I decided to try a different pair of shoes to see how it would change the outfit’s look. Ummm, I don’t think I like the look with these black espadrille wedges.
I liked the chain detail that runs down the side of the jute material, but I’ve not yet embraced the square toe look. I also think the black of the shoe pulls the eye down and focuses on my shoes, which isn’t what I wanted. I wanted my legs to look long and lean, and either a white shoe or a neutral shoe would have worked better. I often do a pop of color with heels, and even that would have worked better than the black espadrilles.
Even if I wasn’t a fan, everyone else must have been because the black version has sold out, but there is a white version still available. The shoes do run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.
Now it is time to vote on which outfit you like the best? THIS = floral top and white jeans, THAT = black and white blouse with white jeans. I suppose we could have a BOTH category if you think both of these outfits are something you would wear.

I love the floral blouse on you with the darling green handbag. Your skin and face just light up with these colors. The black and white also looks nice, but the black is not so great near your face. It is amazing how those brighter colors bring that pretty glow to your face.
That! I love Black and White.
That! I love the black and white.
I prefer the black top with the white pants and nude shoe. While I like the style of the floral blouse, the print is not for me.
While the print on the first one is fun, the puffed sleeves aren’t for me. The second much more appeals to my minimalist side and the sheer sleeves would lend itself to evening wear as well.
While I love THIS, and like THAT; I think a white shoe with THIS would suit me more and I love the black shoe with THAT.
While both outfits are great my favorite is the THIS. Thank you for sharing the care instructions for the floral top. I wish you a blessed day!
I choose the THAT look better. I like pops of color but that floral just isn’t me. I really love the black and white polka dot top with the white jeans.
Definitely choosing THAT. I know puff sleeves are in for certain buyers, but I can’t help thinking they look like they are best suited to toddler dresses. Fortunately, you look nowhere near fifty and can pull off “cute.”
Renee…far north of 50. 🙂
I really like both, but my first choice would be That. I’ve really gotten into long sleeve blouses lately. Though I did just order 2 pairs of shorts that would look great with the floral blouse. 💓
I like “this” better probably because I love the pop of colors.
Both! You look fabulous in both !
Both outfits look great on you but if I had to choose, I like “This” the best.
BOTH is my vote! I like the jeans and both tops. Like you, I prefer the neutral shoe to the black one but I usually don’t usually care for platform shoes (they’re often SO heavy) or ankle straps. My eye is still adjusting to the square toe.
The floral looks great on you; the black & white made you look a tiny bit older I think.
You look fabulous in both but of the two I would wear THAT and it is extremely flattering on you. I actually like the black espaderilles with it as well.
My vote is for THAT.
Liked everything about it. The top is versatile and I loved the black espadrilles. They grounded the outfit. The blouse can also be worn with a blazer or sweater, which I don’t think would be comfortable with the floral blouse’s puff sleeves.
The floral print is very pretty but being on the busty side I feel the large puff sleeves would call extra attention to, and emphasize, the area. G
The green snakeskin purse has to go. I don’t care for green and snakes give me the willies! LOL
Loved the black and white top the most maybe because the front tuck made your legs look so nice and long. Maybe consider skinny belting the floral top to shorten it a bit and pull in a bit of the volume. The print is gorgeous!!!
Both looks are pretty, but I really like the black and white one best.
Love the smocked blouse and white jeans especially and really liked the green satchel, really cute. All outfits looked great on you but for me personally I would choose the white jeans and smocked blouse, as I am petite and prefer to keep my contrast between top and bottom low.
THIS for me. The floral top looks so versatile plus it screams out spring ( as I watch snow fall!)
I really like the black and white look, you could wear platform sneakers to dress it down
BOTH!!! If I had to chose one– it would be THAT. (most likely going to buy its!) BUT I wear a lot of black and white — and THIS is perfect for the spring and summer!! Love the sleeve length and floral print.
Love the classic black and white outfit!
I love the black and white outfit and the tan shoes look better. You look great in both outfits.
They both look great on you. I will choose THIS! If looking at the website, I would overlook the blouse but it looks so cute on you. With the white pants it is clean and fresh looking for spring.
You made it hard to decide. Love them both.
I like the That outfit best and would wear white shoes. Really liked the green snake skin purse!!
Both look great on you. I like the black top with the white jeans. Shoes would be out for me. Cannot wear those due to some injuries. Thanks for all of your posts. They are so helpful. By the way you look great !!!
That
I think you styled them both perfectly. I love that you give us ways to expand one piece of our wardrobe.
If I h a e to choose, for me it would be the floral top.
LOVE the green bag,
Both for you – you look so great! Both for me too, tho maybe not the lovely floral top since I’d have to try out the elastication on the short sleeves , and minus the shoes – no heels due to injuries, and no (I am afraid of snakes) snake print lol. LOVE the jeans! Thankyou as always!
I love both, but especially the black top!
So fun! I am drawn to the that outfit. But I might just add that darling green purse for a pop of color and a reason to get it.
They both look fabulous on you but I would choose THAT for me. I love the black and white look. I also would have styled black shoes with it but you are right, the neutral shoes do look better with it.
My vote is for “that”…I always gravitate towards black & white, and I agree that the neutral shoe is a better option for that outfit. Love that green handbag shown with the first outfit!
Both! Each outfit is appropriate for different occasions.
It’s both from me!
THIS! The floral top with white jeans is perfect.
Both! Absolutely love the versatility and style of both tops with the white jeans!
Both on you; That for me!
Love the little green purse. Even though I am petite I carry a large purse because I feel I am leaving something behind if I don’t. My back and shoulder would like a smaller purse 😆
I love them both. But. I would probably choose the black and white over the floral and white.
Definitely THAT, the blouse is lovely, and I like it better than the floral blouse, as I seldom would wear a floral patter. Also like the sheer sleeves, as they will be cool but I won’t freeze in air conditioned buildings. Lovely white pants!
Love both outfits. The black is my favorite. I like it with the black shoes. I would change out the boot cut for ankle or straight leg jeans.
Both for sure!
Love the bright blouse! So many things to wear with it. The black dot is very classic and classy. Both so different I choose both!
Love both of them but I’m in the ‘THAT’ camp for today
I love the black and white with the black shoes. I can never seem to wear other shoe colors with black, and black is my favorite “color”, so I must have 20 or so pairs of black sneakers, boots, Sandler, etc. Both look good on you, but for me, there’s too much color in the first top. I am more of a solid color/minamalist/Tomboy style.😂. You look great, as always.
Definitely THAT, with the neutral shoes. I’m inspired!
That! You really look great in the black & white and tucking in the shirt is so flattering.
Love the espadrilles but at 5’10” that wedge is too high for me.
I like the black and white top a tad better but love the colors on the floral top. I will be on the look out for new white jeans this season! Thnaks for the great ideas!
That!
THAT for me. But honestly both outfits look great. Very pulled together without being fussy.
Loved both outfits! The whote jeans definitely looked better with the lighter shoes, made your legs look much longer. Great post Tania!❤
Both tops are a hit! White jeans, yes, but I don’t like flare pants.
Love both but definitely THAT! IMO there is nothing classier than the black and white look
I love the black look! The black top is something i would wear.
Love both of them and the shoes too!
THAT for me, the black n white dotted top is my first choice but both styles are winners! The floral top is also adorable! I like the tan shoes w both styles.
Unable to pick one as they are both super cute!! Lol
THAT!
I love them both. You look amazing in them. But if you need me to pick, I will go with the dressier black blouse. I agree, a neutral shoe looks better than black.
This!
I love both. This for a more casual look and That for a little dresser look. Great choices
Everything looks great but I really like the black top with the black shoes. It looks more finished. Maybe because it is freezing here in Chicago and I can’t imagine Springtime!
I would wear both outfits if pants were shorter but not the shoes.
THAT. the black and white combo with the neutral shoe is beautiful. Great point about the black shoe taking your eye down.
I would wear the black and white outfit. The floral pattern is nice but I don’t like the puffy sleeves. I love the white jeans with the platform shoes! Imho you should take that vacation, you deserve it!
Sorry, I can’t choose on this one…I love them both! I know it seems obvious and simple, but any chance you could do a quick tutorial on how to effectively do a front tuck? Do I want the waistband to show or no? Do I also wear a belt? I try the tuck but for some reason it never feels quite right to me and I usually abandon the idea!
I loved the “that” look and like you, preferred the neutral shoe to the black for the same reasons you did. I would love the “this” if not for the puffy sleeves which would not only add bulk to my arm area but also make me look like a box.
My favorite is the black & white dot top with white flares & beige slides. Both looked great on you, but would choose the black & white theme for myself.
Both looks are super cute, but my vote is for THAT (the black and white outfit).
Both outfits look great on you. I would wear THAT because I like to have my arms covered.
“This” floral blouse is too pouffy for me. There’s a whole lot of fabric and smocking that’s too busy for my personal style. It’s cute on you.
“That” is a winner! The black/white dot is classic. I recently purchased this same style blouse in a black/gold (or tannish) print. I love it! Great white jeans too!
