Into everyone’s life, a little rain must come. If you are like me, you love seeing the sun way more than the rain. However, after today’s post, you will be prepared to handle whatever comes your way. I am going to show you the PERFECT little black dress that you didn’t know you needed, but you are going to be so happy that you found it!!!

Plus, this is a bonus; I will also show you a lightweight rain trench that is great for days when rain is in the forecast. This classic trench will keep your spirits from being dampened!

What is a little black dress?

A little black dress is usually a sleeveless or long-sleeved dress. The LBD or little black dress is a simple and classic dress that will stand the test of time. You want to keep this dress solid black, but you can add a pop of color with your shoes or accessories.

Where can I wear a little black dress?

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with the little black dress. You can dress the LBD up so that it can go to a cocktail party, or you can wear it with a denim jacket and attend a casual party at a friend’s house. Besides dinner with your friends, events such as weddings, holidays, or corporate evenings are the perfect time to wear your LBD, and a cocktail or tea-length style would be the perfect choice.

I did a post back in 2019, and it showed how to take a black dress and wear it in multiple ways. Check that out and see if you have something similar in your closet.

Have I left you in suspense long enough? This Ponte shift dress from Chicos is gorgeous, and it is so flattering. I am a huge fan of pockets and am thrilled that the dress has them. The pockets help to give me more curves since I am built like a ruler. The bateau neckline helps to create curves since it visually makes your shoulders wider. Wider-looking hips and shoulders equal a thinner-looking waist.

I ordered my usual size 1 in this dress, and it is the perfect size for me. The dress is on sale for $50.00 off and is very limited in size. There is a good chance that it will be re-stocked, so if your size is not available, be sure to check the heart option to be alerted when it is available again. I also have the Travelers Classic Dress with 3/4 sleeves and a tad longer length, and it is just as flattering and beautiful. I link that dress below since I know that many of you might not be comfortable with a sleeveless dress.

Travelers Classic Dress

For those who want a sleeveless dress, here is another option that is also in the Travelers collection. I love that collection since the items are made with a wrinkle-resistant fabric that allows you to arrive at your destination looking fresh and put together instead of crumpled.

Travelers Sleeveless Shift Dress with Mesh Trim

On sunny days, these Quay black sunglasses with gold trim are perfect. I didn’t mention in the earlier paragraph where you could wear a black dress, but a funeral is also when we need this type of dress. If I attend a funeral, it doesn’t matter if I knew the person or if they were a stranger; I am going to be crying. Hiding behind these glasses would be wonderful for me.

Now for the rain part. My daughter lives in Alaska, a temperate rain forest, so it is always misting rain. They are used to the rain, and they never carry an umbrella. Instead, they wear items with a hood that they can raise when it starts to rain and then lower once the skies are clear.

Finding a rain trench that looks good with a classic dress is not an easy task. However, this khaki trench is perfect for jeans or a dress. The trench is a classic fit with long sleeves, front pockets, button-front closure, back vent, and it is a weather-resistant fabric with a removable hood. I am wearing a size 1 in the trench also.

To keep the ties from dangling down, I tie them in the back. This also keeps the coat open a bit so that you can see my gorgeous dress or whatever else that I am wearing.

Besides my sunglasses, I also added this long faux-tortoiseshell necklace. I love this necklace, and I think that it is one that I will wear often. It can be doubled and maybe even tripled, although I haven’t tried that yet. This necklace will look great all year round, especially in the fall of the year.

My shoe choices were high heels; one was a neutral and one a pop of color. The neutral pair is a pair that I wear all of the time, and they go with anything. I am wearing my usual size in them, and they fit great. Those who want something shorter in height, these kitten heels look identical but not nearly as tall.

The hot pink heels are a pair that I’ve had for a long time, and they are not available any longer. However, I’ll link to something similar for you.

Guess I didn’t move fast enuf – only sizes 000 & 00 now in the dress; I do have a mid-calf LBD (cotton knit on the casual side) so will make do :/

  2. So inspired to have an LBD on hand. I haven’t for years, just haven’t needed it. But I can make up some occasions for one 😉

  4. Iove the LBD look. I just feel so weird nowadays with a dress that comes to my knees or just below. Pants have been worn for so long, I need to be retrained.

  5. Ooh la la! Love the pink heels with the black dress–it adds pizzazz!

  6. Perfect LBD on you! It’s down to the smallest sizes…oh well! Love it with the pink heels. Also love your past post with all those great ideas of different ways to style an LBD. I clicked on the links uselessly hoping that some of the items might still be there 2 years later.LOL. No such luck!
