THE COMPARISON GAMES
I don’t like movies about dying. I hate to cry and I cry at the drop of a bucket. Commercials, movies, FaceBook posts, etc., will send me running to the bathroom or for the Kleenex box. I don’t cry pretty, maybe that is why I hate it so much. So, why would I watch a movie where I know they are pitting people (especially children) against each other? But, as luck would have it, the movie was on at my sister’s house when I was there last weekend and I watched some of it. It was riveting and I had no choice.
There is no real “Hunger Games” that I know of but there is still plenty of pitting women against each other. I call this the “Comparison Games.” Let’s look at some examples that I have noticed from comments of others.
Clothing
How much does she spend on that clothing?
I bet she had a closet that is HUGE!
How many pairs of shoes does one woman need?
I like that outfit but I couldn’t wear it. It wouldn’t look right on me.
Family
I wish my husband cooked me supper.
Look at well behaved her children are.
I wish I had grandchildren, I am never going to have any.
Money
I could look good too if I had all their money.
I bet she has someone to cook and clean for her.
That house is HUGE! I wish I had a bigger house.
If I only made 1000.00 more dollars a month then I would be set.
Reality
The reality is we have ENOUGH! You are reading this post so I know you have a phone or computer. You are looking at a fashion blog (at least most of the time) so I know you “have” clothing. Let’s try counting our blessings instead.
I have clothing. I have shoes. I have a family. I have friends. I have money. I have a roof over my head. Do I want better? YES! Do I want more? YES! Do I have enough? YES!!!
No Whining Zone
Every time I whine or complain I am telling the Lord that He is not doing a good job. Every time I whine or complain I am giving the devil an opening to come inside. Every time I whine or complain I am going to STOP and thank the Lord that He has provided for me.
I am GRATEFUL, I am THANKFUL, I am BLESSED!
Have a Blessed Sunday!
Thank you. This was much needed~
So true, thanks for the reminder!
You hit the nail on the head!
Well said!!
Yes I’m so blessed!!
Amen, great post. I try to lead a life of gratefulness daily. We need to find joy daily. We don’t know when we’ll be leaving this earth.
I loved this post! I have shared it with my husband and WE ARE blessed. We had a horrible year (cancer) but we are still here and we are so thankful. Thank you, thank you for sharing this and reminding us how blessed we are!! God bless and have a wonderful week!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this post! I think it may have given me the courage to speak up to a situation tomorrow. There is a teacher at my school who complains about EVERYTHING! She’s not happy if administration provides lunch for us (“what do they want”) and if they don’t (“they just don’t care about us”); she complains if it’s raining or sunny. (“Reces inside again; it’s too hot to be out”) and I could go on and on! I always want to ask if her legs worked that morning – did they get her out of bed and get her to school; did her heart pump so that blood was flowing through her body; do her eyes work so that she can see; and so on! Maybe your post has strengthened me enough to say something tomorrow. Not in a negative way, just to point out that there is SOMETHING to be THANKFUL for in EVERY DAY!
Thank you!!
You are so right! We should all feel blessed every day – even if things aren’t going well! A daily habit of writing down 3things to be grateful for is really helpful when times are tough. God bless
<3 You can only feel worse when you think about what you don't have and you feel better when you remember how blessed you are.
