THE COMPARISON GAMES
I don’t know if any of you watched the movies, “The Hunger Games.” I only saw bits and pieces of the first movie but my daughter and everyone else raved about these movies. All I knew about the movies was that they starred Jennifer Lawrence and it was about fighting till death.
I don’t like movies about dying. I hate to cry and I cry at the drop of a bucket. Commercials, movies, FaceBook posts, etc., will send me running to the bathroom or for the Kleenex box. I don’t cry pretty, maybe that is why I hate it so much. So, why would I watch a movie where I know they are pitting people (especially children) against each other? But, as luck would have it, the movie was on at my sister’s house when I was there last weekend and I watched some of it. It was riveting and I had no choice.
There is no real “Hunger Games” that I know of but there is still plenty of pitting women against each other. I call this the “Comparison Games.” Let’s look at some examples that I have noticed from comments of others.
Clothing
How much does she spend on that clothing?
I bet she had a closet that is HUGE!
How many pairs of shoes does one woman need?
I like that outfit but I couldn’t wear it. It wouldn’t look right on me.
Family
I wish my husband cooked me supper.
Look at well behaved her children are.
I wish I had grandchildren, I am never going to have any.
Money
I could look good too if I had all their money.
I bet she has someone to cook and clean for her.
That house is HUGE! I wish I had a bigger house.
If I only made 1000.00 more dollars a month then I would be set.
Reality
The reality is we have ENOUGH! You are reading this post so I know you have a phone or computer. You are looking at a fashion blog (at least most of the time) so I know you “have” clothing. Let’s try counting our blessings instead.
I have clothing. I have shoes. I have a family. I have friends. I have money. I have a roof over my head. Do I want better? YES! Do I want more? YES! Do I have enough? YES!!!
No Whining Zone
Every time I whine or complain I am telling the Lord that He is not doing a good job. Every time I whine or complain I am giving the devil an opening to come inside. Every time I whine or complain I am going to STOP and thank the Lord that He has provided for me.
I am GRATEFUL, I am THANKFUL, I am BLESSED!
Have a Blessed Sunday!
AMEN!!!
Oh, Tania, this is SUCH a vital post & I enjoyed it so much! Thank yoU!. In America all of us that can read, have a roof over our heads, food on our table, shoes on our feet & someone to love have more than 80% of people worldwide! WE ARE BLESSED! Especially if we have the Lord in our hearts!
Thank you for all that you do! Love your post. Yes, I am blessed.
I have been guilty of comparing myself to others only to have God show me that their life isn’t was great as I thought it was. God has provided so much for me and I am truly thankful! And I will continue to try my best not to compare but to thank God for what He has done and provided and for what He will do and provide. And also to stop and pray for the ones I am comparing myself to since I really do not know their situation and they may seem to have it all but really need God’s help in some way.
Thanks for the reminders to us all. 🙂
Blessings …
Gina, I admit that I am usually talking to myself with these posts. I can be envious and competitive which are not good traits. I have soooo much and I am VERY thankful. I really am trying to not compare myself to others, I am not them. It would be funny to know that the might be comparing themselves to me. Lol!
Amen. I am thankful. I am grateful. I am blessed. ?
Have a grateful heart and mindset. Look at all we have, God has given us so much, the warmth of the sun, a loving family, good food, clean sheets on our beds, friends and work to keep us busy, we are truly blessed. Practise gratitude. I read a wonderful book years ago called “Simple Abundance” a brilliant book, you may remember it.
Great post! I just discussed this in Bible Study, we are all blessed beyond measure!!
