The Best Midi Skirts for Women Over 50
Are any of you getting Spring Fever? I know spring is here, but sometimes no one has told Mother Nature. I have so much to do around the house, but this is the time when I want to be outside, sitting on my patio, enjoying some sweet tea and a good book. I think I missed my calling as a Southern Belle. Sigh. At least I can “springify” my closet! If you’re looking to add a little spring refresh to your wardrobe, midi skirts are the way to go! They’re flattering, comfortable, and easy to style with just about anything. Today, I’m showing you some of the best midi skirts for women over 50—skirts that work for different body types, trends, and outfits.
Is A Midi Skirt A Great Item To Own?
Absolutely! A midi skirt is a fantastic fashion item to own, especially for women over 50. It’s a versatile piece that flatters most body types, hitting that sweet spot between a mini and a maxi for a chic, polished look. Whether you go for a classic denim midi, a flowy floral print, or a sleek satin style, you’ll find endless ways to style it—pair it with a sweater and knee-high boots in the cooler months or a white t-shirt and sneakers for an easy movement midi skirt outfit in warmer weather.
Midi skirts work for so many occasions, from casual outings to dressier events, making them a true wardrobe staple. With different silhouettes, fabrics, and trends available, you’re bound to find one that fits your personal style while keeping you comfortable and stylish!
Satin on Satin!
I love the feminine look of this satin outfit. The navy satin blouse and the gorgeous satin midi skirt could be worn for work, a date night, church, or an event, to name only a few places. I’d pair it with boots for fall, and sandals or heels for spring and summer.
Denim Midi Skirt
A Denim Midi Skirt is a closet staple, and this olive beauty is a must-have! It’s got the perfect amount of stretch to keep you comfy all day, plus front and back patch pockets that add a little extra flair. The front slit gives it that stylish edge while allowing for easy movement—because nobody wants to feel like they’re walking in a straightjacket, lol! Pair this with a white t-shirt and sneakers for a laid-back midi skirt outfit, or dress it up with ballet flats and a cute blouse for a polished look. It’s a great neutral color that works year-round, making it a solid investment for your wardrobe.
Ecru Midi Skirt
If you love the classic look of denim but want something a little different, this Ecru Midi Skirt is for you! The cotton fabric is soft and breathable, perfect for warmer days, and the back slit adds comfort and style. It’s an easy piece to mix into your outfits, whether you go for a thin sweater and ankle boots or a simple white blouse and wedges. Add this one to your rotation for an effortless, everyday go-to!
Refined Denim Midi Skirt
For a more polished take on the Denim Midi Skirt, this one is a winner. The hidden elastic waistband means a sleek fit, and the side zip keeps things looking smooth. It also features a side slit that makes walking around a breeze (no stiff hems here!). This is a fabulous choice if you want a denim skirt that leans more toward business casual. Throw on a structured blazer and some chic sandals, and you’re ready for a day at the office or a nice lunch date.
Contrast-Stitch Midi Skirt in Cotton Poplin
This Midi Skirt has a crisp, clean look that’s just perfect for spring and summer. Made from breathable cotton, it has that easy movement we all love. The contrast stitching adds a stylish touch, and it comes in multiple colors—including a beautiful honey brown that’s just begging to be paired with a tucked-in sweater. Whether you wear it with sneakers for a casual day out or dress it up with a satin blouse and some sleek wedges, it’s a piece you’ll find yourself reaching for time and time again.
Women’s Soft Denim Midi Column Skirt
Column skirts are having a moment, and this Soft Denim version is everything! It’s cut in a straight silhouette, which makes it super flattering for all body types. The fabric has a gentle drape that moves with you, and the midi length keeps it feeling polished. This would be so cute with a floral print blouse and some comfy flats for an effortlessly chic look. Bonus: It’s great for petites and taller ladies alike!
Women’s Satin Lace Trim Midi Skirt
Gurls, if you need a skirt that has a feminine touch, this is the one! The satin fabric gives it a gorgeous, luxurious feel, while the lace trim adds just the right amount of romance. Whether you’re headed to a wedding, a date night, or just want to feel a little extra, this skirt has you covered. Try pairing it with a fitted top and some high-heeled sandals for an elegant look. It comes in black and lavender—both of which are perfect for different outfits and occasions.
Printed Midi Skirt
A floral Midi Skirt is always a good idea, and this one has plenty of colors and prints to choose from! The flowy fabric makes it perfect for festival season (or just looking cute while sipping coffee on your porch, lol). I love that you can dress this up with a fitted top and wedges or keep it casual with a tucked-in tee and sneakers. It’s one of those pieces that just makes you feel pretty the second you put it on!
Women’s Cargo Midi Skirt
If you love a functional and stylish piece, this Cargo Midi Skirt is a dream! It has SIX pockets, Gurls—perfect for stashing all your essentials. The midrise fit sits comfortably on your hips, and the back-elastic waistband makes sure it doesn’t dig in. Cargo styles are trending big time right now, and this skirt is proof that you can rock the trend in a flattering, feminine way. Try pairing it with a fitted tee and some comfy ankle boots for a cool, effortless look.
Old Navy Straight Fit Midi Skirt
Sometimes, you just need an easy, throw-on-and-go skirt, and this one fits the bill. The straight fit keeps it modern, and it hits at the calf for a length that works for so many body types. The black looks amazing, but it’s also available in a fresh, pale blue color. It’s a super affordable piece. Buy the matching top if you want to create a great column of color!
Gurls, there you have it—the best midi skirts for women over 50! Whether you’re looking for denim, satin, cargo, or a fun floral midi skirt, there’s something here for everyone. Verse Of The Day
John 15:4-5 (NIV)
4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

I love all the skirts! Especially the denim midi . My concern is I have very little space /waist for tuck in. I’m 5’3’” and 113 Lbs but tucking in tees makes me look like a box. So…. How do we wear these great skirts so they flatter

Liked all the midi skirts but my favorite is the white one from Loft and Light Ectu from Talbots.

I am not a midi skirt or any skirt fan. My body doesn’t look like the models for sure. The flowered tiered skirt would be my only choice.

Found it. Not to sure about the purple lace trim skirt, looks like a slip. I’m thinking the olive denim skirt should be mine.
I love the midi skirts, but don’t currently own one. Do you feel like a woman who carries most of her weight in her hips and thighs can pull them off? I’m especially drawn to the slimmer style skirts. Thank you.
Yes, absolutely! Women who carry more weight in their hips and thighs can look great in midi skirts. The trick is to choose an A-line or fit-and-flare style that skims over the hips, go for soft fabrics that drape nicely, and define the waist with a tucked-in top or belt. High-waisted styles are especially flattering, and pairing the skirt with wedges or heeled sandals can help elongate your legs. Just aim for a length that doesn’t hit at the widest part of your calf, and you’ll look (and feel) fabulous!
Great advice. Thank you!
Found it! I love denim skirts. They are so versatile.

I think midi skirts look so cute on many women, but I find them tricky as a petite. I tend to wear either knee length or ankle length. Love that floral one you featured, though. 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you if it wasn’t for you mentioning about Loft’s 50% sale I never would have tried them. The only item I ever bought was a pair of earrings several years ago when I was with a friend who wanted to stop there. Well I stopped in a store Saturday and bought several items. Because of you I found a new place to shop.
Tania, you are right. You can’t please everyone! I appreciate your talents and hard work. I admire you for sharing your faith. With that said, keep doing what you are doing Gurlfriend🩷

Question…what length skirt is best for 5’2”, midi or knee length?
Sometimes the ones below the knee make me feel really short.
Generally, Petite women look better with shorter skirts since it shows more of their legs. Off the skirt is longer, then the top needs to be tucked in or cropped, that helps, too.
