The Best Eyeliners That Don’t Smudge or Migrate

There are some items in my makeup bag that I use every time I leave the house. I might leave the eyebrow tint off for a quick trip to the grocery store, but eyeliner? ALWAYS. I love the definition a good eyeliner gives, but if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had days when you look like a raccoon by lunchtime. UGH. The good news is there are plenty of smudge-proof eyeliners now that stay put, even on mature eyes.

In Case You Missed It:

The Two Eyeliners I Use Most

Charlotte Tilbury Feline Flick | tarte Double Take

I’ve recently started using brown eyeliner for a softer look. My two favorite eyeliners are the Charlotte Tilbury Feline Flick and tarte Double Take. The tarte Double Take has two ends, giving you the choice of a gel liner or a liquid liner.

Wonderskin Eyeliner Pencil

Leave it to TikTok to show us the way, lol. This Eyeliner Pencil really means business. It’s waterproof, sharpenable, and stays put all day long. The formula glides on smoothly, so you don’t have to tug at delicate skin (big plus!), and once it’s set, it’s not going anywhere.

  • Longwear pencil that’s waterproof
  • Smudge-proof formula for all-day wear
  • Sharpens to a fine tip for precision
  • Glides easily without pulling

Revlon ColorStay Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner

Let’s be honest, Revlon’s ColorStay line is a drugstore legend! This Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil comes with a built-in sharpener and stays smudge-proof for hours. Affordable, easy to find, and great if you just want a reliable everyday eyeliner.

  • Waterproof and smudge-resistant
  • Built-in sharpener included
  • Comfortable formula that doesn’t drag
  • Budget-friendly and widely available

Almay All-Day Eyeliner Pencil

If your eyes are on the sensitive side, Almay is a great option. This All-Day Eyeliner Pencil is “hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist-tested, and cruelty-free.” Additionally, it’s water-resistant, long-wearing, and non-irritating. Available at a reasonable price, too!

  • Safe for sensitive eyes
  • Hypoallergenic and cruelty-free
  • Long-wearing water-resistant formula
  • Smooth application

Maybelline Tattoo Studio Ink Pen Eyeliner

This one’s for my liquid liner lovers. The Maybelline Eyeliner’s felt tip gives you control for either a thin line or something bolder, and the waterproof formula stays sharp for up to 24 hours. Perfect for anyone who wants bold definition that won’t budge.

  • Pen-style liquid liner
  • Intense pigment with precision tip
  • Up to 24 hours of wear
  • Waterproof and smudge-resistant

e.l.f. Liquid Eyeliner

Sometimes, simple is best. This Liquid Eyeliner from e.l.f. is super affordable but still packs a punch. The extra-fine brush tip makes it easy to create a precise line, and the smudge-proof formula keeps it in place.

  • Ultra-fine brush for precision
  • Affordable price point
  • Smudge-proof liquid formula
  • Jet black pigment

Clinique High Impact Easy Liquid Eyeliner

I’ve found that Clinique always has sensitive eyes in mind, and this Liquid Eyeliner is no different. It’s waterproof, long-lasting, and smudge-resistant, but still gentle enough for those of us who deal with watery eyes or irritation.

  • Safe for sensitive eyes
  • Waterproof and smudge-resistant
  • Easy liquid formula with smooth glide
  • Trusted dermatologist-developed brand

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Grip Mechanical Gel Eyeliner Pencil

This Gel Eyeliner Pencil combines the smooth glide of a gel with the convenience of a mechanical pencil. The grip design makes it easy to control, and the 36-hour wear claim is great for long days when you don’t want to have to reapply.

  • Gel formula in a pencil format
  • Mechanical (no sharpening needed)
  • Smudge-resistant and waterproof
  • Up to 36 hours of wear

Ulta Shockwave Eyeliner Pencil

If you love bold color options, this Shockwave Eyeliner Pencil is fun. It comes in a range of shades, goes on creamy, and then sets for smudge-proof wear. Perfect if you want something beyond basic black.

  • Wide shade selection
  • Creamy application that sets in place
  • Smudge-proof formula
  • Great for experimenting with color

Ulta Long-Wear Smudge-Proof Gel Eyeliner

Gel eyeliners are a nice middle ground between pencil and liquid, and this Smudge-Proof Gel Eyeliner from Ulta delivers. It has the pigment of a liquid with the ease of a pencil, and once it sets, it stays put all day.

  • Gel formula with rich pigment
  • Smudge-proof and long-lasting
  • Easier to control than liquid
  • Great for everyday definition

  1. 🙂 I’ve tried to make liquid work for me a few times. My hand isn’t steady enough-ha. Plus I feel like it’s a lot harsher than I want. I use a pencil because I like a softer line. I’m always on the hunt for a better one though. :/ I want something to make a soft, thin line that isn’t “floating” too high.
