Flattering Summer Outfits from Kohl’s for Women Over 50

I’ve always said that summer clothes are the hardest to shop for. The fabrics are thinner, the sleeves are shorter, and there’s just less to hide behind. Add in hot flashes, travel, and trying to look pulled together without layering, and well, it’s a lot.

I’m not trying to turn heads. I just want to feel comfortable in my skin and in my clothes, and not spend all day tugging or adjusting.

So I placed a Kohl’s order with high hopes (you know the feeling). And most of the pieces actually worked. Like, really worked. They looked good, they felt good, and that’s a win in my book.

If you’re over 50 and looking for flattering summer outfits from Kohl’s, things that are modest, comfortable, and wearable, I think you’ll like these.

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s, but the opinions expressed are my own.

A Soft and Neutral Summer Outfit That’s Easy to Wear and Easy to Love

Embroidered Shell Pullover Sweater (Medium) | High-Rise Raw Hem Wide Leg Ankle Jeans (Size 8) | Ivory Crossbody Bag | Cliff Slide Sandals (TTS)

This outfit looks casual but polished. The soft textures, easy neutrals, and pieces move with you for a comfortable but stylish look. It’s the kind of outfit that makes you feel put together without being overdressed, and it works just as well for lunch with friends as it does for checking off your to-do list. Everything about it felt comfy, breathable, and wearable, especially on those days when the AC is blasting inside but the sun is still beating down outside.

Why it works:

  • Casual and polished without feeling overdone
  • Neutral colors that mix easily with your wardrobe
  • Easy pieces you can wear from errands to lunch

Embroidered Shell Pullover Sweater

The Embroidered Shell Sweater has a gentle structure to it; it’s not stiff, but it holds its shape nicely. The embroidery adds just enough interest without while still being understated, which makes it easy to pair with lots of different bottoms. It’s light enough for warmer days, and it’s one of those tops that can transition into early fall with a jacket or vest layered over it. I wore the medium, and it fit exactly how I like, neither tight nor oversized, just easy.

Why it works:

  • Works on its own now or layered later
  • Offers coverage without adding bulk
  • The embroidery draws the eye up and adds visual interest

High-Rise Raw Hem Wide-Leg Jeans

These high-rise Raw Hem Wide Leg Jeans were a win for me. The raw hem keeps them modern and youthful looking, but the cut is still clean and flattering. The denim is soft with just enough structure to smooth things out. I like that they sit at the waist without digging in, and the wide leg lets your legs breathe in the hot summer weather. I wore them with sandals, but I can also see them with ankle boots or even sneakers in early fall.

Why it works:

  • Raw hem keeps it feeling current
  • High-rise waist gives comfortable coverage
  • Wide-leg shape balances the silhouette

Nautical-Inspired and Perfect for Late Summer Days

Boatneck Intarsia Sweater (Medium) | Bright White Pull On Twill Shorts (Medium) | Bone Strappy Sandals (TTS)

This outfit has an easygoing, coastal vibe that I really love. The sweater feels classic with a touch of playfulness, thanks to the anchor motif, and the pull-on white shorts give it a crisp look without looking fussy. I’d wear this for a casual weekend lunch or even a laid-back evening on the patio with friends. It’s one of those outfits that makes people think you put some effort into your look, even though everything about it is comfortable.

Why it works:

  • Nautical details keep it classic without being trendy
  • Breathable knit and soft twill make it ideal for warm weather
  • Every piece feels comfortable while still looking intentional

Boatneck Anchor Sweater

The anchor sweater looks like it might be heavy when you first see it, but it’s surprisingly lightweight. It has a soft knit texture and lays nicely without being clingy or hot. The boatneck neckline is flattering, and the anchor design gives it that little something extra. I wore the medium, and the fit was easy without being boxy.

Why it works:

  • Anchor detail adds charm without being over the top
  • Lightweight knit makes it breathable for warmer days
  • Boatneck neckline flatters and adds interest

Bright White Pull-On Twill Shorts

The White Pull On Twill Shorts were one of those “pleasant surprise” pieces. I’m usually cautious with white shorts; they can be stiff or see-through, but these had good coverage and felt soft, not scratchy. I ordered the medium, but I should have sized down since they were a little big on me. The elastic waistband was generous, and they didn’t dig in at all.

Why it works:

  • Fabric is thick enough to avoid see-through worries
  • Modest length offers great coverage
  • Pull-on style with stretch = comfort and ease

A Lightweight Layered Look with Cool, Breezy Neutrals

Button Front Sweater Vest (Large) | Blue Linen Wide Leg Ankle Pants (Medium) | Ivory Crossbody Bag | Cliff Slide Sandals (TTS)

This outfit had a quiet, elegant feel to it, like something you’d wear to a casual dinner outside. The knit vest added texture without adding heat, and the wide-leg linen pants were soft and relaxed. This was one of those combinations that made me feel pulled together without trying too hard. Neutral, comfortable, and versatile.

Why it works:

  • Neutral tones make it easy to rewear and mix with other pieces
  • The outfit adds interest through texture, not color
  • Comfortable enough for daily wear but elevated enough to feel polished

Button Front Sweater Vest

The Open-Knit Sweater Vest was a great layering piece. It’s lightweight and doesn’t cling, and the button detail down the front gives it just enough personality. I wore it over a simple bodysuit, but it would also look cute over a tee or even a button-up shirt with rolled-up sleeves. I sized up to a large for a little more length and layering room, and I liked the way it draped.

Why it works:

  • Easy to layer now or later into fall
  • Open-knit style adds texture without warmth
  • Button detail makes it feel more finished

Blue Linen Wide-Leg Ankle Pants

The Linen Wide Leg Ankle Pants were a relaxed take on summer trousers. The linen blend fabric made them breathable and soft, and I loved the flowy feel. I ordered a medium, but I definitely could have sized down, so if you’re between sizes, go smaller. They didn’t wrinkle badly like some linen does, and they moved well throughout the day.

Why it works:

  • Elastic waist is forgiving and comfortable
  • Linen blend keeps things cool and breezy
  • Wide leg balances out the hips and thighs

Ivory Crossbody Bag

And the Ivory Crossbody Bag is a sweet little addition to the look. The size is just right, room for my phone, sunglasses, and a few extras, and the gold accents give it a touch of personality. I love that unexpected bell detail on the strap, it is a nice little touch. It adds a tiny bit of charm without making noise or standing out too much.

Why it works:

  • Gold details add a subtle bit of personality
  • Crossbody style keeps hands free
  • Neutral ivory matches every outfit in this post

A Flattering Summer Outfit from Kohl’s That Mixes Comfort and Style

Tan Striped Short Sleeve Collared Sweater (Medium) | High-Rise Raw Hem Wide Leg Ankle Jeans (Size 8) | Ivory Crossbody Bag | Cliff Slide Sandals (TTS)

This final outfit felt like a fresh take on everyday style. The subtle stripes on the sweater gave it a polished feel, and pairing it with wide-leg jeans added an easy modern update. I love outfits like this, simple, clean, and made up of pieces that will mix well with just about everything else in your closet.

Why it works:

  • The look is structured but comfortable, easy to dress up or down
  • Soft stripes and denim balance casual and refined
  • Each piece can be worn with almost anything else in your wardrobe

Tan Striped Short Sleeve Collared Sweater

The Striped Short Sleeve Sweater is a great little basic with a twist. The collar gives it a more refined shape, and the tan-and-ivory stripe is soft and easy to wear. The sleeves are a good length, no cap sleeves here, and the fabric isn’t too clingy. I wore a medium, and it fit just right. This is a great layering piece, too, if you want to throw on a cardigan or denim jacket later on.

Why it works:

  • Collar adds polish without being stiff
  • Stripe is soft and flattering, not bold or overwhelming
  • Short sleeves offer modest coverage for the upper arms

Cliff Slide Sandals

The Cliff Slide Sandals are shoes I’ll wear over and over. They’re comfortable right out of the box, with no straps digging into your foot, and no breaking-in period. I love the simple shape and neutral tone, and they just seem to work with everything. I’ve already worn them with shorts, dresses, and jeans, and they haven’t let me down.

Why it works:

  • Great everyday option for summer
  • Cushioned sole and soft straps = no break-in required
  • Neutral shade pairs with everything

Thoughts on Flattering Summer Outfits from Kohl’s

I love it when a try-on ends with more yeses than returns, and this was one of those times. These pieces from Kohl’s hit that sweet spot of comfort and style, with fits that feel forgiving and fabrics that work with the season, not against it. I loved how everything mixed and matched so easily, and even more than that, I appreciated not having to overthink anything. That’s a big win in my book.

  1. 😊 Joe is the best and that banana split looks delicious.
Cute outfits – I especially like the anchor top.

  2. I love t when you show things from Kohl’s, they are affordable and the store is close by. Also Kohl’s carries most things in 16 and eighteen, and if the other stores carry them they tend to run small.
My favorite clothing line is Liz Claiborne at JCPenney. Stylish but not too trendy and they don’t make this 68 year old look like she is dressing to young.
