J.Jill Try-On Haul: One Pair of Jeans Styled Four More Ways (Part 2)
Last week, I popped into J.Jill to do a try-on haul and quickly realized I had found more good pieces than I could reasonably fit into one post. It’s still cold out, gray most days, and winter has definitely overstayed its welcome, but my brain is already thinking ahead to spring. I’m at that point where I don’t want to buy anything that only works right now, but I also can’t pretend it’s warm enough for linen and sandals yet.
So I started paying closer attention to pieces that feel wearable now, but won’t feel out of place once the weather starts to turn. Lightweight sweaters, easy layers, and tops that work on their own or under a jacket. Things that make getting dressed easier in this in-between season, when mornings are cold and afternoons start to tease you with warmer days.
That’s how this post came together. I ended up with enough outfits to split the try-on into two parts, and today’s post picks up where Part 1 (Read Here) left off.
The Outfit That Feels Polished but Still Easy
This was one of those outfits that feels pulled together without feeling dressy. The Tipped V-Neck Sweater adds just enough detail to make the outfit interesting, but it still feels very wearable for everyday.
I’m wearing the sweater in a medium, and the fit is relaxed without being oversized. It skims the body nicely and doesn’t cling through the middle, which I always appreciate. The V-neck is not too deep, and the tipped trim gives it a subtle, finished look that keeps it from feeling basic.
The high-rise Curved-Pocket Flare Jeans are the same ones from Part 1. Still comfortable, still flattering, and still doing a lot of work. The loafers balance the flare well and keep the whole outfit grounded and practical.
I added the Long Coin Pendant Necklace again because it works with just about everything and helps draw the eye upward.
Why it works
- Sweater has a relaxed fit that doesn’t cling
- V-neck opens up the neckline without being too low
- Jeans provide structure and balance
- Easy outfit that looks finished without trying hard
A Casual Layer That Changes the Whole Feel
This outfit has a more relaxed, weekend feel, but still looks intentional. The Quilted Zip-Front Jacket is the piece that changes everything here.
I’m wearing the jacket in a medium, and it fits comfortably without feeling bulky. It has enough room to layer over a tank, but it still holds its shape. The quilted texture adds interest, and the garment-dyed color keeps it soft and casual instead of sporty.
Underneath, I wore the Pure Jill soft V-Neck Layering Tank. This is one of those pieces that doesn’t get much attention, but it does a lot of heavy lifting. It lies smoothly, doesn’t cling, and works under just about anything.
Same Jeans, same Loafers, same Earrings and Necklace, but the vibe is completely different.
Why it works
- Quilted jacket adds texture without bulk
- Tank keeps the outfit lightweight and comfortable
- Easy layers that work together without fuss
- Great for casual days that still require real clothes
The Sweater That Feels Relaxed and Comfortable All Day
This Waffle-Knit Henley Sweater is one of those pieces you put on and immediately feel comfortable in. It has that casual, slightly lived-in look that works well for everyday wear. It looks brighter in these photos; probably, my camera adjusted for the lighting.
I’m wearing a medium, and the fit is easy without being sloppy. The waffle knit adds texture, and the henley buttons give you the option to open up the neckline a bit if you want. It’s soft, comfortable, and not overly heavy, which makes it easy to wear now and later into spring.
Why it works
- Waffle knit adds interest without needing accessories
- Relaxed fit that doesn’t feel oversized
- Henley neckline gives flexibility
- Comfortable enough to wear all day
A Classic Shirt with a Soft Layer Over It
This outfit brings things back to classic, timeless style. The Non-Iron Classic Shirt is one of those pieces that always works, and layering it under a soft cardigan makes it feel updated and easy.
I’m wearing the non-iron shirt in a medium, and it fits comfortably through the shoulders and arms without pulling. The length gives good coverage, especially in the back, which makes it easy to wear untucked.
Below, I added the Textured Open-Front Cardigan, also in a medium. The cardigan has a soft drape and adds warmth without feeling heavy. It layers nicely over the crisp shirt and softens the overall look. I love how the texture adds a visual detail that elevates the look.
Why it works
- Crisp shirt provides structure
- Cardigan softens the look and adds comfort
- Easy layers that work together naturally
- Classic pieces you’ll wear year after year
One More Thing
Putting these two posts together was a good reminder for me. When you start with a pair of jeans that truly fit and feel good, everything else gets easier. You’re not reinventing the wheel every morning; you’re just making small tweaks that change the mood of an outfit.
That’s how I’ve been trying to shop lately. Fewer pieces, better fit, and more ways to wear what I already own. Especially in this in-between season, that approach makes getting dressed feel a lot less complicated.
I’d love to know which outfit stood out to you in Part 2, or if there’s one piece you could see yourself reaching for over and over.
