Remembering God’s Faithfulness Through Everyday Reminders

A Chilly Morning and a Gentle Reminder

Saturday morning was chilly, with crisp air that made me shudder a little as I walked outside with Lucy for her morning potty break. As I strolled, I noticed the morning sun starting to break through the clouds, sparkling across the wet grass like tiny diamonds.

In that quiet moment, I found myself thanking the Lord for this amazing world He has given us. Just before heading inside, the sunlight caught a spiderweb nestled in the grass. Its delicate strands were covered in dew, glowing with a soft white shimmer.

As I stood there, the glistening web reminded me of manna in the wilderness. The Bible describes manna as “bread from heaven” that appeared on the ground each morning, just enough for the Israelites to gather for that day. Something about the whiteness of the dew-covered web made me picture how the manna must have looked when the Israelites walked outside their tents.

That thought led me down a path I’ve been reflecting on all week. God provided for His people in miraculous ways, yet they still struggled to trust Him.

Manna: God’s Daily Provision

Exodus 16:4 (NIV)
⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.

The Israelites often forgot God’s blessings, even though He had just delivered them from Egypt and parted the Red Sea. Within three days, they were already grumbling.

²⁴ So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” ²⁵ Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.

This cycle of forgetfulness and doubt repeated throughout their 40 years of wandering. Despite miracle after miracle, they struggled to trust that God would provide again.

Forgetting the What-Was for the What-Ifs

Ouch. That one stings a little, doesn’t it? I know I’ve been guilty of forgetting the blessings of the past when facing today’s problems. Instead of remembering how faithful God has been, I sometimes find myself falling into the trap of “what if.”

I haven’t seen a sea split in two, but I have seen doors open when I least expected them. I’ve had situations that felt devastating at the time, only to realize later that they were blessings in disguise.

And yet, when a new challenge arises, I often slip back into fear instead of faith. Thankfully, the Lord is patient and forgiving. Just like the Father in the story of the Prodigal Son, He always welcomes me back with open arms.

Everyday Reminders of God’s Faithfulness

The Lord doesn’t just remind us through Scripture; He also uses little everyday moments to point us back to Him. A rainbow after a storm. A spiderweb sparkling with dew. A door opening when we thought it was closed for good.

God was with Moses, Noah, and David. And He is with us today, too.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminders of Your faithfulness that show up in both big and small ways. Forgive me when I forget how You’ve provided in the past and start to worry about the future. Help me to hold on to Your promises and to trust that You are always with me. Amen.
