Remember The Blessing Instead Of The Storm

Storms We Don’t Always See Coming

The other day, my sister and I were talking about storms—not the kind with thunder, lightning, and torrential rain, but the storms that shake your life to the core. The ones that leave you exhausted, broken, and unsure of how you’ll ever pick up the pieces.

We’ve all had those seasons where the storm clouds roll in, and all you can do is hold on for dear life, praying the sunshine comes soon.

What Doesn’t Kill You… Still Feels Like It Might

When I’m in the middle of a life storm, I don’t usually feel like a warrior. I feel weak. Overwhelmed. I cling to the Lord, asking Him to calm the waves and bring peace to my anxious heart. It’s only after the storm has passed that I start saying things like, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

It reminds me a little of childbirth. You endure months of discomfort, then the agonizing pain of delivery. But the moment you hold your newborn, the pain starts to fade. The blessing takes center stage.

I Forgot the Storm?

While talking with my sister, I started listing off some of the personal storms I had weathered. To my surprise, she gently reminded me of one I hadn’t mentioned. Then Joe, my husband, reminded me of another. And later, my mother added one more.

I was shocked at how many I had forgotten. How could I forget storms that once brought me to my knees?

Why Blessings Win the Battle

If you asked me about my life today, I’d tell you I’m incredibly blessed—more than I deserve. And that’s the key.

I’ve chosen to dwell on the blessings rather than the storms. That doesn’t mean the storms didn’t happen, but the Lord has been so good to me that His blessings have outshined the pain.

Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

When You Can’t See the Sun, Trust the One Who Made It

Some of the storms I’ve walked through weren’t just light rain—they were full-on hurricanes. I didn’t think I’d survive a few of them. But I did. Not because I was strong, but because God was with me.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

He didn’t just walk me through the storm—He carried me. And over time, the winds died down, the water receded, and His peace flooded my heart.

What We Dwell On Becomes Our Story

I read something recently that stuck with me: What your mind dwells on can consume you. And it’s true.

I’m not consumed by the storms because I’ve chosen to dwell on the blessings. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. King David knew this well.

Psalm 118:5-7 (NIV)
“When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies.”

What Storms Have You Forgotten?

After reading this, you might start thinking back on the storms you’ve faced too. Take a moment to reflect—not to relive the pain, but to recognize how far God has brought you.

You might be banged up, maybe even still healing, but you’re here. And if you’re reading this, that means the storm didn’t win.

To GOD Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

Let’s End With a Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being with me in every storm. Thank You for the blessings that followed, for the peace that came after the pain, and for the strength You gave me to walk through the darkness. Help me to remember the blessing instead of the storm. Remind me daily that Your love is greater than any hardship and that Your presence is the light that breaks through every cloud. May my life always point back to You—my refuge, my strength, and my peace.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
