Platform Shoes: Can Women Over 50 Wear This Trend?
I’ve been seeing a lot of platform shoes for sale, and I bet you have, too. One question that might be dancing through your mind is, “Can women over 50 wear platform shoes?” The answer is a resounding yes! Platform shoes aren’t just for the young; they’re for everyone! Today, I’m sharing all different kinds of platform shoes, from sandals to sneakers, that I think you gurls will love!
Can Women Over 50 Wear Platform Shoes?
Oh yes, platform shoes are a great choice for women over 50. These shoes will give you extra height, and their base is more stable and supportive than stiletto heels. You can be as stylish as you wish since they are available in dressy or casual styles such as sneakers. The great majority of platform shoes come with cushioned insoles and other ergonomic details, making them easy to wear all day long.
Platform shoes are versatile. As I mentioned, they come in lots of different styles. They can easily transition from casual to chic, making them a go-to option for almost any occasion. Whether you’re heading to a brunch with friends, a day out shopping, or even a night out on the town, there’s a platform shoe to suit your personality and style. For your Petite ladies, the extra boost of height works wonders to make your legs look long and lean.
There are times when a dress or skirt is so long that it can make you look frumpy. I love wearing heels, but a great platform shoe can give me the extra height I need.
I love, love, love these Tan Espadrille Wedge platform sandals. The cork sole with the espadrille trim is a unique twist and a fun visual detail. These fit true to size, and I’m wearing my usual size 9.
I love wearing platform shoes with jeans to keep them from dragging the ground. Since these crops won’t drag the ground, I took the opportunity to show off a new pair of platform shoes.
The Jack Rogers® Cork Wedge Sandals are a new purchase for me. I’ve heard great things about Jack Rogers shoes, so I thought I would give these a try. I love the design, but they are a little heavy. It might just be because I’m not used to wearing them. I’m keeping them to try and break them in. They are perfect for the metallic trend that is so hot right now.
Here are a few other platform shoes I found. Most of these are casual, but they all look sturdy.
Platform Sandals for Women Over 50
With its chic raffia design and comfy slingback style, these sandals are perfect for everything from beach strolls to garden parties. The platform gives you that little extra lift while keeping your feet happy all day long.
These sandals feature a double-strap design that keeps your feet secure, while the cushioned footbed provides cloud-like comfort with every step. The elevated platform adds a trendy touch, making them perfect for dressing up or down.
The platform heel of these brown leather sandals gives you the perfect amount of height without sacrificing comfort, making them ideal for long evenings out or special occasions. Pair them with any summer outfit for a look that’s both trendy and timeless.
Whether paired with a casual sundress or your favorite jeans, the Ariane Platform Slides add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. I love shoes that slip on and off because I don’t have to fuss with a buckle or fixing straps!
Here’s another slip on sandal that I thought was absolutely adorable! These slides are just calling for a straw handbag or a rattan belt to tie the look together. They come in a bunch of colors, but you gurls should check out the denim!
Platform Sneakers for Women Over 50
Platforms aren’t just for sandals or heels—they’re a fantastic choice for sneakers too! Platform sneakers bring a trendy twist to your everyday casual wear, offering the perfect blend of style and comfort. The Gazelle Platforms are versatile enough to pair with anything from jeans to dresses, and they’re guaranteed to keep your feet happy!
Have you tried a slip-on sneaker? Designed with Vionic’s renowned orthotic technology, this pair of slip-on sneakers ensure all-day comfort and stability, making them perfect for busy days on the go.I love Vionic shoes!
You gurls know I love a pair of white sneakers! They look great with anything from a sundress to atheleisure. The Cole Haan GrandPro TopSpin Sneaker is the perfect blend of sporty and classic!
Platform Heels for Women Over 50
Now let’s talk all about platform heels, which are a great choice for events like weddings or date nights! Platform heels evenly distribute your weight, so you can enjoy that added boost without putting too much pressure on your feet. These platform heels from Lifestride have a foam footbed to keep your feet comfy and supported while adding a touch of flair to your outfit.
Here’s a great black option if you’re on the hunt for a pair to go with a little black dress! This pair from Kork-Ease has a cushioned leather footbed and a sturdy sole. They also come in brown, cream, and metallic.
Last but not least, I wanted to share this stunning pair of metallic shoes from Aerosoles. Metallics are trending this year, so I’ve been trying to share options with them when I find them! If you love the shoe but not the silver, you can grab them in all different finishes and colors, like suede and patent leather.

I need all the height I can get being 5’2″ so I will always wear platforms! I have the Reefs in two colors and wear one pair at least once a week all summer. They are so comfortable.
I love a great platform. I think I’ll look at a platform athletic shoe; you shared great options. On another note I brush my cat with a slicker brush to help with the fur. It helps especially in the spring and summer and she loves brushy time.
I brush Tom also, and he loves it.
Thanks Tanya, as a height challenged (5’2″) woman I love a cute platform shoe! BTW sounds like you cld use a good lint brush! I like the double sided paddle kind, like a hairbrush but brush part is flat w/velour-type fabric on both sides, @ drug stores, dollar stores, Target etc, doesn’t add to land fill 🙂
I am 55 and I like platform shoes. They add height to my short/petite frame.
I don’t know if my ankles or my knees would let me wear the platform shoes, but they are so pretty.
Platforms are so comfortable!
love the tan espadrilles with the white skirt outfit! Beautiful and so summery! Glad to know us gals can wear them! I love their look. Thanks for all your tips, Tania!
50 years ago I wore white platform sandals at my wedding…Fast forward and they are still cool.
Love the Reef sandals. And a good white sneaker is awesome! Love your recommendations. Thanks for all you do for those of us over 50 (or 60+ )😄.
I love platforms! And not just because I am a petite gal. I just feel more stylish wearing platforms or heels. Though, LOL, for my day to day real life, I tend to wear flats. My biggest challenge is shoe size. I have tiny, but wide feet. So I’m restricted to only a handful of manufacturers and even then, I have to sift out all the mumsy shoes and try to find ones that are stylish. I don’t know why so many companies believe having wide feet = “I want to look outdated”.
I love platform and wedge sandals. Of course, they have to be comfy. I actually tried the ones from Kohl’s on a while back. I really liked them, they were not what I needed at the time. I may be reconsidering after seeing how cute they are on you.
I love platform shoes, so comfortable! I have about 3 pairs and they are not new either.
Our weather here is horrible! Under a severe thunderstorm watch!! :-0
Our street is currently flooded! It too shall pass though!
Stay safe, Paula! I hope it passes by quickly.
I love platform shoes but as I have aged, my balance has become very tricky. Not only have I had to give up my platforms but also my beloved heels! After falling three years ago and damaging my rotator cuff to the point of surgery, it was a no-brainer to buy more stable shoes!
I hate that you took a tumble. I’m not having any issues yet, so I’m wearing my heels as long as I can.
super cute shoes. platforms are a great summer option when you need a bit of height but a closed shoe doesn’t work.
Cute sandals. I remember the wooden platform shoes well as a teen. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Animals are drawn to good, loving people.
Such beautiful shoes!
I love platform sandals. There are some great options in this post.
I like sandals with some platform. They can’t be too high a heel because you can twist your ankle. I’ve done that before but didn’t hurt it. I also think a strap makes me feel more secure. I have sneakers with a small platform and I like them. As I am getting older safely in shoes is important. There’s so many stylish shoes that are both comfortable and safe for walking. It’s not like in the past when safe shoes were frumpy
What do you think of doc martens !?! I got a pair of their platform sandals last fall (I’m 58) and I have never had a sandal I like better!
I’ve never owned any Doc Martens. I know my sister loves them, but I’ve never found a style that I like.
The Sam Edelman are my favorite. I have the reef and they are very comfortable.
I hope platforms are for women over 50😆! I have a couple pairs of Clarks platform (cork) sandals that Iove and i’ll be 60 this year! 💗
As a shorter gurl I love my platform shoes. They’re so versatile and help me wear longer skirts and dresses.
I love the look of platform shoes but generally avoid them because I fear I’ll fall off of them, ha! Can’t afford to break anything at this age. The Sam Edelman styles are really cute, though.
I prefer the platform sandals. For me it offers more stability for my ankle, after I broke it some years ago. You’ve provided some great choices!
Both Lucy Lu and Tom definitely missed you and needed your attention. That cat has a paw like a bobcat. lol
They definitely missed me.
All cute! I plain and simply need to throw out a bunch of summer shoes and replace them!
I love the sandals in metallics. They go with everything like a neutral does.
super cute shoes. platforms are a great summer option when you need a bit of height but a closed shoe doesn’t work.
I love platforms! For the past few years, I have been purchasing platform shoes from Keds. They have several styles to keep current with trends. The cushioning is great and the arch is neutral. Very comfortable. The only caveat is that the toe box can be narrow. If a person’s feet are not “narrow” , go for the wide shoe.
I have a pair of platform Keds, and I like them a lot.
I love the Sam Edelman buckle sandals – those of us with narrow feet can tightened the buckle one notch and the sandal fits better!
I love the Sam Edelman slip ons with the buckle detail. Anything with buttons and buckle trim is for me.
I like the platform gym shoe style
Love them all!
What bugs me about sandals and shoes too are straps with velcro. I have a wide toe box but narrow ankle/heel, meaning that the velcro will barely stay on. I’m sure the opposite is true for those with the opposite problem with their ankles/heels.
I’m just the opposite! I LOVE straps with velcro. I hate trying to buckle straps.
Love the post, great shoe options.
