Nine Great Alternatives To Leggings

If you’ve read this blog for long, you know I love leggings; in fact, I have a post on rules for wearing leggings that you might want to check out. I wear them all year round, but especially during fall and winter. What can I say? I love to be comfortable. But I get it; they’re not for everyone. Maybe you need something thicker or don’t like the shape. Whatever the reason, today I’m sharing nine great alternatives to leggings.

Nine Great Alternatives To Leggings – Yoga Pants

If you don’t like the shape of skinny pants or leggings but want the super comfort of the soft material, then yoga pants are a great alternative. They are comfortable like leggings, but the flare adds just the right amount of style. These come in a TON of colors, have pockets, and are on sale for under $30. Reviewers have given these a 4.4-star rating, and even though I didn’t leave a review, I agree with this rating.

Here’s another great option. These are loose and cozy, perfect for those who want comfort but don’t like clingy leggings. Like the yoga pants above, they come in several colors and have pockets, which is a must for me. These are a little cheaper at just $24 dollars!

Nine Great Alternatives To Leggings – Jeans

If you like the look of leggings but can’t get over how thin the material is, you can achieve the same look with a pair of skinny jeans. Just like with leggings, you can pair this with a long tunic or sweater and look very chic. These are Levi’s and are available in several washes. Over 16,000 people have reviewed these jeans, and they have a 4.4 star rating!

Talbot’s gets it! These jeans + leggings, or jeggings, combine the best of both worlds. They are made from stretch denim and are great at hiding the bumps and bulges that leggings can sometimes expose. These are available in misses, petite, and plus size, too!

I’m a huge fan of the Wearever line from J.Jill, and I just spotted these pull-on knit jeans. I can’t wait to get these because they will be perfect for days you need to travel but want to look put-together when you arrive.

Nine Great Alternatives To Leggings – Stretch Pants

I love these pants! They are comfortable but so chic. I love wearing winter white, but for those of you who prefer darker colors, they are also available in black. I like the high waist, the flared hem, and especially the seam detail on the front. These would be great for lounging at home, or throw on a quilted vest, and you’re ready for almost anything.

Wearing leggings is all about comfort, so you know I’m a fan of these split-hem pants. These are for casual days out walking the neighborhood or running errands. They have a front zip pocket and a tiny split at the hem for a nice finishing detail. These also come in grey and black, but I think the navy would pop with a white or yellow sweater.

Cargo pants are definitely trending! These combine the comfort of sweatpants with the cargo pant silhouette. Being comfortable doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish. Hanging out at home alone? You’ll feel better about yourself when you’re put together.

I know everyone isn’t a fan of the legging or skinny pant silhouette, so this pair of wide-leg sweatpants is for you. Wide-leg pants might be out of your comfort zone, but if the choices are the sweatpants you wore back in 9th grade PE or these, please give these a chance. 🙂 They are available in several colors, and there are even some without the front seam. And, of course, they have POCKETS.

If leggings are a non-starter for you, let me know in the comments which of these alternatives you’re considering!

  1. HELP! I am a 58-year-old writer … but I’m only 4’6″. Where do I look for clothes like this that will work for me. PS. I live on an island in Alaska. Often find places in Anchorage on travel, but also spend a lot of time on travel in a Salvation Army. I need comfort at the computer, and style at a signing. So, advice for what I’m seeking and how, please?

    1. You have limited shopping opportunities, and my daughter lived in Alaska for a while, so I know how high shipping rates can be. I love wearing leggings with a comfortable top. If you need to dress the outfit up for a signing, then throw on a nice blazer, jacket, or cardigan. Dressing in layers would be helpful for you since you wouldn’t need to wear everything all the time.

  2. Hi, Tania: What do you think of joggers as a substitute for actual leggings or yoga pants? It’s hard to find yoga pants in shorter lengths for those of us under 5’3″.

  3. So true about feeling better when you’re put together well! The Jean leggings are really cute!

  4. Louise Logan says:

Alternatives are always a good thing!!

  5. I love the option you gave for leggings. Also shopping at Talbots, they have the cutest clothes and are so helpful. I love their loafers also.

    1. I am a huge Talbots fan!!! I’ve just started wearing some of their shoes, and I love a pair of loafers I bought there.

  6. Krista Preston says:

Thanks for the great non leggings options!!

  7. I do like leggings, also have jeggings, jeans, wide leg pants. But not all have pockets. We need pockets!! I’m looking at the high waisted yoga pants, with pockets, yay!
Question: when you say an Amazon price and I go look, the price I see is usually $4 or $5 higher.

    1. I try to say under ….. the issue is that different sizes and colors are different prices. Plus, they might be on sale for a week and then go back to a different price.

  8. sue koren says:

Love the tapered cargo pant – I don’t look good in skin tight leggings.

  9. I like the alternatives except skinny jeans. I’m not a skinny jeans or leggings gurl. At home I wear sweatpants or joggers or straight knit pants. Whatever I can find at Walmart that’s comfortable. Last year I bought bootleg yoga pants in a petite length. I’m going to try to find another one this year. Thank for all the alternatives.

  10. I wear leggings and other alternative pants. It was a hard decision to wear leggings, but once I found a good fit for me, I enjoy them and the outfits I have been making to wear.

  11. Thank you for the alternatives to leggings. I have always avoided them, but I do love my jeggings. I read somewhere that stirrup pants are coming back–another trend I plan to avoid and replace with jeggings!

    1. Connie, I’ve seen them for the past few years, but they’ve not caught on yet.

  12. I love my leggings but the yoga pants look pretty comfortable too!

  13. Comfy pants are wonderful for us retired gals! 😂

  14. My 11-year-old granddaughter is a Swiftie, too. She would LOVE a party like that!
Leggings make me nervous, so I am glad to see some recommendations for some age-appropriate choices.

  15. I like leggings too. My favorite are the crush velvet.

  16. Great post. I put the yoga pants with pocket in my shopping cart. I’m short so I will have to shorten them.

  17. Great alternatives. I wear flare leg leggings and yoga pants more often then leggings. I feel more comfortable in them because they are not as tight. Yoga pants are my go to for running errands and travel. going to try the Amazon ones. Thanks for the ideas.

  18. For those (like me, lol) who don’t love leggings, Quince offers ponte pull-on pants, very reasonably priced, bootcut and straight leg. Some come with pockets. They are easily dressed up or down. I think they would be great for traveling!

    1. Sarah, I don’t know why I forgot to include those. 🤦‍♀️ I have those, and I love the way they look and fit.

  19. I am a big fan of jeggins.

  20. Christal Yowell says:

my comfort level with leggings is growing, as it does glad there are other options.

  21. Stella Gustafson says:

I wear jeggings when I wear long pants which is hardly never

  22. I really like several of these!! I love the wide leg sweat pants – look so comfy and cozy!!

  23. Patt Dyal says:

Your granddaughter is so adorable and precious! Aren’t grandchildren God’s gift for growing old? You are blessed!!

  24. Love yoga pants with bootcut leg!! RBX and Marika are a couple I really like!!

  25. I love the bootcut yoga pants from Jockey. So comfy!

  26. I would live in jeans if the office agreed. Dressed up or down. Yoga and sweat pants are more of my home uniform. Yes, I like comfort. 😀

  27. Love the look of the wide leg sweats but inseam is way too short on all of them 😩

  28. Robin Williams says:

I love the slim stretch knit straight leg pants and bootcut yoga pants. Anything that is comfortable but has that “girdle” effect for my middle! Love your styles!

  29. Garrett Laura says:

Your Matti is a doll. What a fun way to celebrate her birthday! I live in leggings year-round as well and any kind of knit pant is my choice for travel.

  30. You should try out the NoGa bootcut pants from Duluth Trading! They are spectacular; like a yoga pant, but better plus they have a pocket on the side for your phone and a hidden “key” pocket in the waistband if needed. I think I own 5 pairs and wear them everywhere!!!

  31. I do love leggings, but I also love all the styles you posted – I have a variation of a few. Thinking I’d like to get the first pair (wide-leg yoga), and the Talbot’s jeans and the cargo pants are also nice! 🤗

  32. I love the look of the split hem pants by Talbot. I would probably get them in the indigo blue. You can never go wrong with Talbots. Great post Tania.

  33. Love alternatives to leggings since I am not a jean person (they just don’t fit me right). And the split hem comes in petite length too.

  34. I really like the Sketchers walkers pants. they aren’t dressy but they’re great for running errands or relaxing at home. Costco carries them at a reasonable price from time to time. I’d like to try the yoga pants here and maybe the wide leg ones. I don’t like to tuck in my tops so I have to watch proportions.

  35. I’m generally a jeans type of girl, but I may need to try something new.

  36. I love those wide leg sweat pants! I’ve never worn anything like them! I hope I like them, I ordered a pair!

  37. Wow:)!!!! Great options. The yoga pants and pull on Talbots (straight and bootcut) ….. I’m going to try them. Thank you! Happy birthday to Matti. She is adorable!!

  38. Karrie Knutson says:

I live in the T by Talbots leggings they have a high waist with a wide waste ban which helps prevent muffin top. They are also thick enough so they are not see through. Paired with a T by Talbots top and or jacket you look put together and stylish in a casual athletic way.

  39. Talbots has some great alternatives.

  40. Carole from Canada says:

Love my jeans but leggings and yoga pants are sooooo comfortable.

  41. Becky Kerwin says:

So many good options to wear instead of leggings. I feel more put together when wearing pants over leggings!

  42. Donna Ingalls says:

I like the Slit hem straight leg pants
    from Talbots. Very flattering.
Good post for those that don’t like leggings.

    1. Donna, a lot of women don’t like the skinny legs look, so I thought I’d show alternatives for them today. 😊

    1. Leggings and jeans… that’s pretty much what I wear all the time.

      1. me too. I’m enjoying your posts and would like to see more of what to wear over leggings.
I live in NC and heavy sweaters are to warm.
