LOOKING LIKE A MILLION BUCKS FOR UNDER FIFTY
I am on the go a lot. My next big trip coming up will be the middle of September when I head off to Nashville, Tennessee. You gurls know that I have a ton of clothing, but when you go to events like this, you always want something new and special. So, I am on the lookout for outfits, and especially for a pair of cowboy boots. That is one article of clothing that I do not have in my closet. I think that cowboy boots are adorable when worn with a cute dress, but I like them on others, not on me. Lol!
So, this is going to be an interactive blog post today. YOU are going to be giving me suggestions today. My must-haves, when it comes to boots, is that they be super cute. Lol! I would love to find a pair that would also be really comfortable, and I would like to be able to wear them again at a later time. I have been looking around, and I found sound cute boots by Lane called Junk Gypsy. I love the styling of the boots but would love to know if anyone has ever bought them. I still have a little time to shop, but I want to get an early start since I might have to return for size problems, etc. So, all of you cowboy/cowgirl boot wearing ladies need to chime in and point me in the right direction.
Who wants to look like a million bucks for under 50.00? I hope that everyone’s hand went up because I am going to talk about how all of that can be possible. Buying off of the sales rack is the secret sauce. That is a pretty easy task, but you would be surprised how many people don’t take advantage of great sales. How many of you purchased something from the sales that I posted about on Saturday? I bought this dress, and several others, back in early spring when I got an email that said Old Navy dresses were on sale. I looked at a few and found this sleeveless Jersey Swing dress for 9.99. Did I need another dress? Probably not, but I knew that I would be able to wear this dress in the spring, summer, and fall. AND, I was only going to spend ten dollars, so why wouldn’t I buy the dress? Here is the link to the dresses that are on clearance, and here is the link to dresses that are on sale, but sadly they are more expensive than 9.99, but they are still at a bargain.
Most of the jewelry that I have on is not available for purchase. I just wanted to show you that I am wearing silver. But, you can buy the bracelets, the small two-strand silver bracelet is the Maggie, and the large link bracelet is the Madijeanne.
I love these sexy sandals. I know that the color looks brown with black piping, but the sandals are actually a deep olive green with dark brown piping. You can’t see the back (I forgot to take a picture) but these are laced up the back with a dark brown cord. One of the shoes had lost its cord, so these shoes were on sale for 5.00! A quick trip to the shoe store, where I bought a pair of new brown cords, fixed the shoes for around 2.00 more dollars. So, I have a total of 7.00 in these shoes.
I added these beautiful colorful kimono and it changed the entire look of the outfit. The kimono was around 25.00, but I can’t remember exactly how much it was. I bought it this past week, but I can’t find it on the Cato Fashions website. Maybe you will have better luck than me, but be sure to check out your local store to see if they have it in stock. This was not on the sale rack, this is part of the new fall inventory that just hit the store. I bought the kimono with the thoughts of wearing it this fall with jeans and a white t-shirt, or maybe with olive jeans. If you add the total for the entire outfit, I have less than 50.00 invested in items that I will wear over and over and over again. Ladies…shop the sales racks!
Don’t forget to give me your recommendations for cowboy boots.
I do encourage you to please sign up for my daily emails so that you can click on the link and it will take you straight to the post. No more having to remember to type in the name, etc.

Hi Tania! I went to Nashville for the first time 3 autumns ago. There are some crazy deals on CB boots there; something like buy one get two free. I just couldn’t find THREE pairs of boots I liked (or needed). My surprise was what to pair them with. A classic look was a black dress, of any style length, but the swing dresses are really great for us “50 is not old” crowd, with any kind of CB boot. So you don’t have to go “all out” cowgirl, just use the boots as your accessory. However, ever since that visit, I can’t get the teal boots with rhinestones out of my head! Instead I bought a denim jacket decorated with red/black/ivory lace, buttons, sequins. Every time I wear it, I get a compliment! -Janet from NJ
I love my Ariat boots. I look for a lug sole not a leather sole which will be cold in the winter months and very slippery too. Get all leather on the the vamp (shoe/foot part) of the boot. The shaft is the tall part of the boot on your leg. It is nice if its leather because I think it’s more breathable. I have about 20 pairs of boots and I get a lot of them at the Boot Barn. I actually don’t wear anything else except flip flops in the summer.
We go to Houston for the rodeo…❤️ So boots while we are there are a must! I have Ariat and Old Gringo and I wear them regularly with jeans and leggings even back home in NY. I get a lot of complements on my black leather embellished boots. We buy from Cavenders and always try them on. I find that all manufacturers fit differently and the boot shaft height is a personal preference. There are a lot of boot stores on Broadway in Nashville but I’ve never purchased there.
Cowgirl Boots are great! I don’t know about the brand you mentioned. I have a square toe pair of Twisted X boots with turquoise side panels and a turquoise pair of Boulet boots. For me, I like to have high quality boots that will last and they must fit well; usually about 1/2 size smaller than shoes. It would be so great if you did a series of how us ‘mature’ gurls could wear boots! There are so many to choose from! You’ll have great fun shopping for boots!
Ariat boots have served me well for many years (same pair!). My foot is long and narrow, and fitting is a little particular! -Try on many pair before you decide! Frye boots are excellent, but for fashion (not working on the farm – lol), I think you could get by with a little less dollar.
Go try on! Otherwise I agree with Judy^. I have a high instep so I have to try on cowboy boots. Yes, get the real deal not fashion. Have a blessed day!
I just checked out the boots and I love them, (junk gypsy) the heel is perfect, love the buckles and straps, everything. you will get so much use out of the this boot! cropped jeans, jeggings, leggings, skirts.
I live in my Ariat cowboy boots in the cold months. They have great support and have super cute styles.
I am a 5th generation cattle rancher married 46 years to a 5th generation cattle rancher. I know a thing or two about boots. First of all buy the real deal not a fashion boot cowboy boot look alike The fashion boot just isn’t going to cut it!! I’d suggest going to Cavendars website. They have so many choices you won’t know what to do. Look for a good leather. Get leather that isn’t too stiff so it doesn’t rub your leg and foot. Typically in a western boot you will size down from your shoe size. Some moderately priced boots that are usually comfortable are Justin, Ariat, and Old Gringo just to mention a few. Currently I have two pairs of Old Gringo and one pair of Lucchese boots in my closet. I prefer a lower heel and a square toe for comfort but you wear higher heels than I do so you might like a higher heel and more pointed toe. Go ahead and get a little wild stitching on the boot for fun!!!! Wear those new boots a time or two just at home to “break” them in and expect the heel to slide on your foot just a tiny bit until the boot is “broken in”. Have some fun and I’ll be looking for you to be strutting those new boots by September.
99% of the time I wear cowboy boots or Converse. Mostly in the winter I wear cowboy boots with dresses. Make sure you find ones that fit you perfectly and they will be so comfortable. Junk Gypsy boots will be awesome and are well made. Don’t buy cowboy boots that are not leather. Ariat is a brand that is comfortable. So is Corral. Make sure you buy ones that have leather soles. I have several pairs and they are the best made shoes. I have had to have one of my favorite pairs resoled because I wear them so much. They are Tony Lama brand. I am well over 50 and I plan on wearing cowboy boots for the rest of my life.
