LIVE LIKE YOU WERE DYING

Untitled designI am sure most of you have heard the song by Tim McGraw, where he sings live like you were dying. With the death of my uncle this week, I have been thinking along this line. Mostly I have been thinking about how we have no guarantee of tomorrow. But, I like to keep my Sunday posts on the inspirational side, so I don’t want to dwell on what we can’t have. I want to dwell on what we CAN have.

I wrote a post a little while back where I talked about a bucket list. This was really more a tongue-in-cheek kind of post, and not one that I put a huge amount of thought into. Today, I want to talk about our spiritual bucket list.

I think you can be a good person, even if you do not attend church. I highly recommend attending church, it is uplifting and I always leave with a new found love of the Lord. But, even if you do not attend, you can still have a spiritual bucket list.

  • Love the Lord with all your heart
  • Love thy neighbor as your self
  • Extend kindness, with the expectation of nothing in return
  • Forgive those who don’t deserve it
  • Pray, pray, pray, and then pray some more
  • Visit the elderly and widows
  • Take the time to really talk to a child
  • Be humble

Love hard, laugh often, and take chances. Today is what we have. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Hug someone close to you, and tell them that you love them.

Have a blessed weekend.

  1. Great post, Tania, One reason to go to Church is to worship God but I think another reason is to fellowship with other believers. My favorite friends at Church are the “littles”. They lift me up every Sunday that I am with them…. teaching them about loving Jesus and the people around them.

You are right. “We have no guarantee of tomorrow”. We have recently known people who have died unexpectedly. Even the neighbor’s dog was at my house at 4:00 getting his treats and chewies. He was fine. She texted me a couple of hours later saying the dog had died suddenly. 🙁 What a shock that was.

Thanks for the wonderful words and sharing your thoughts with us.

  2. Love this post!! Love you too! Be safe in your travels! See you soon!

Thank you for this reminder. I strive to treat people how I want to be treated. One of the hardest ones to achieve is to love the unlovable. I pray daily and listen to Christian rock to and from work. I know God rides with me and keeps me safe. Love you Tania. Love and hug on your relatives and remember to really listen when you do. My dad passed quite a few years ago unexpected and I regret not listening and paying attention to his stories more. Too late now. We are all dying daily let us not forget to find joy everyday in the life we are living.

    1. I am sorry to hear of your father’s passing. I am thankful daily for the blessing of having both my parents and two grand-parents still in my life. My grandmother, who will be 103 in August, is still telling stories. Thankfully we have been able to video some of these stories.

  6. It is true, one can be a “good person” without attending church, but that’s not the point. The purpose of attending church is to worship God, the reason we were created. Jesus attended synagogue regularly. I remind myself of this whenever I want to stay home on Sunday. God has given me so much, surely I can give him a couple of hours a week. I appreciate your blog, and your uplifting posts. You have a good attitude and I’m sure you are a blessing to those who know you. Have a wonderful week!

    1. I agree whole-hearted Diane. I remind myself of the sacrifice Jesus made for me, whenever I feel like skipping church. He did not skip out on me.
