Laughing at Myself (And Why You Should Too)
Have you ever had one of those mornings when you think you’ve got it all together? Hair fixed, coffee poured, feeling like you’re ahead of the day, only to realize you’ve been squinting at your phone for ten minutes while your glasses are sitting right on top of your head? Yep, that was me this morning.
Joe didn’t even look up from his newspaper. He just gave me that little smirk that says, “I’ve learned better than to comment.” Lucy, my trusty sidekick, gave me an unimpressed look before she quickly ducked back under her blanket.
It made me laugh out loud, right there at the kitchen table. Because years ago, that moment might have sent me into an eye-rolling spiral. Now? I just shake my head and laugh. That’s one of the best perks of getting older: realizing that perfection is overrated and that laughter fixes just about everything.
Why Laughing at Yourself Matters
Somewhere along the way, we started believing that women should have it all together all the time, flawless hair, spotless house, endless energy. But perfection is exhausting, and honestly, it’s not even real.
When you learn to laugh at yourself, you let go of that pressure. You stop striving for the impossible and start enjoying the possible. Life becomes lighter, softer, and a lot more fun.
That moment with my glasses reminded me that being “put together” doesn’t mean being perfect. One is about confidence, and the other is about control. And confidence is the only one that brings peace.
My Weekend Style Uniform
After my morning laugh, I decided to stay in that relaxed, happy mood all day. I slipped into my favorite weekend outfit, a soft, cozy sweater, my most comfortable jeans, and slip-on shoes that don’t require a thought. Simple, classic, and just me.
These are the kind of pieces that make weekends feel effortless without trying too hard. They’re easy to move in, easy to style, and easy to love, just like a good laugh first thing in the morning.
Tania’s Tip
When life throws you one of those “seriously?” moments, like spilling coffee on a clean shirt or showing up to the wrong appointment, laugh first. You can clean it up later. Laughter is what keeps you from letting little things steal your joy.
Final Thoughts
So today, if something goes sideways, choose laughter. Don’t waste your time trying to hold it all together. Just breathe, grin, and remember: every woman who looks “perfect” is probably just better at laughing it off.
Now excuse me while I go find where I left my glasses…

1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Love this line so much: perfection is overrated and laughter fixes just about everything! Wonderful post!!!
It’s all true!
😀 I like sweaters and jeans for everyday most of the time.
🙂 Really like the Cashmere Sweater Hoodie!!! Hahaha
😊Love the hoodie, especially in navy.
Casual doesn’t need to look like you just rolled out of bed, and you prove that! 🙂
🙂 Great advice!!
😀it is freeing to stop caring about perfection whether it’s an amazing vacation, a spotless house, being a perfect size with perfect clothes, whatever. To get off social media because I have figured out they are living in an alternate reality! Nobody’s life is perfect! Unfortunately it took me till over 50 to figure it out! The sweater hoodie & jeans is my daily “uniform” I need to upgrade to cashmere 😉
Nobody is perfect! That a true statement if I’ve ever heard one!
😀. Yup, laughter really is the best medicine! We have to be able to laugh at ourselves to keep ourselves sane!
🙂 I laugh at myself often. So much better than getting upset. Super cute sweater!
