IT IS TIME TO EMBRACE

Last year I picked my word of the year to be BELIEVE. I really didn’t give it much thought at the time. I was pretty pleased with the word, I thought it would be an easy word to focus on. However, believing is not always easy, especially when the odds seem to be stacked against you. There are times when I could see my belief in action and there were times when I said that I believed but in my heart, I knew that I was really doubting. The word was harder to put into action that I thought it would be.

It is easy to believe when you know the outcome. It is easy to believe when the outcome is trivial and isn’t important. I feel like I have grown this year in my belief and I want to continue to carry this word with me into the new year. However, yesterday I picked a new word to start 2018 with.

First off, I wanted to let God pick my word for me instead of me. I wasn’t sure exactly how to do that but here is what I decided to do. I searched and came up with these words as possibilities… Then I went to www.wheeldecide.com and typed each word into the wheel. After I applied the changes to the wheel, I held my breathe and hit the spin wheel button.  I wanted to hit the spin button again. What did this mean? What am I supposed to embrace? I wanted something that I could understand like family, trust, or dream. What am I supposed to do with EMBRACE???

I took a couple of deep breaths and decided to start thinking about what this word meant. By definition it means:

  • hold (someone) closely in one’s arms, especially as a sign of affection.
  • accept or support (a belief, theory, or change) willingly and enthusiastically.

Then I looked up synonyms for Embrace and found things like hug, encompass, cherish and choose. There are also words like accommodate, take on, grasp, and adopt. The antonyms are just as important. Like NOT rejecting, denying, spurning, or distrusting.

I look forward to growing this coming year with Embrace. Embracing my faith, my journey, my failures and successes will all be an adventure, one that I will embrace.

Tell me your word for 2018.

Have A Blessed Day!

  1. Great word! My word for 2017 has been Simplify. While I have made some progress on this, it is something I will continue to work at in the future. I always start praying around October that God will show me the word he wants me to focus on in the next year. He has given me Love for 2018. I can’t wait to see what the year holds for me!

  2. Good morning. This is very thought provoking. First word that stood out to me was Surrender. Thank you for bringing this to my attention & pray for me during my journey to discover how to surrender to God’s will.

  3. Tania, thank you for sharing this. I know my word “purpose” was clearly given to me. ( it probably should be “patience” that one would be every year). I took a very early retirement – my choice – this past year and after working my whole life I am clueless. Praying for direction and purpose. You inspire many people with your blog! Julie L

  4. Embrace is a good word. Let’s see where it leads us…Thank you!

    1. Dana, when you really start to think about the word, there are so many ways that it can be used. I am excited about the new word.

My Sunday School class does this at the beginning of each year. Each lady shares her word or short phrase and a verse that goes with it. In 2016 my word was TRUST. Last year my phrase was BE INTENTIONAL. Those are the first two word on your list. Right now I am thinking my word/phrase for 2018 may be CHOOSE JOY or BE THANKFUL. Lately, I see myself being bothered with little things and getting negative. Certainly, not the way I want to portray myself. Have a wonderful Sunday!

    1. I love that we are all sharing our word. I love the ones that you have picked. They kind of go hand in hand to me.

  6. Love this list!! Several words are standing out to me and they all seem to go together….hmmn, interesting. We’ll see where I land.

    1. I didn’t think to add some additional words to the list. Maybe before you decide you need to think if there are any others that you want to add.

I spun the wheel three times, my first word was Family, my second was Happiness, and the third was Embrace! I think they all go hand in hand! You can’t have one without the other! Once you Embrace your Family blood relatives or otherwise then you have true Happiness! I like the wheel app thanks for sharing!! Love your blog too!!

    1. I should have spun more than once, too. I love your choices!

My word was balance. It was the first word that came to my mind and when I did the wheel God reinforced that. I feel like I am juggling so many things. And I just had surgery a labrynthectomy to remove the balance center in my right ear. I was suffering from vertigo for years. I am retraining my balance center. A perfect word for me.

    1. Gail, that is perfect for you!!! Balance is what you physically need and I am betting also emotionally. God is talking to you!

  9. I used many of the words in your list and added some of my own. I spun the wheel and got Exercise. Just yesterday, I told my mom that I felt God was telling me to exercise. I purchased a total gym after my conversation with mom. I love it when God confirms what I thought I heard!

    1. Mary Lou, I LOVE that. You have been given Diven direction. Talk about confirmation!

  10. I am at a standstill on this. I appreciate your insight into your process and decision making. I have never heard of or used this app. I will have to probably use it to help me!! I seem to be stuck between grateful and peace right now. Have a blessed day. Kathy

    1. I use this app a lot of times when I have giveaways for my R+F team. I will usually even film the spin so that everyone can see who wins. I am looking forward to “Embracing” the New Year.
