INSIDE THE DRESSING ROOM VOL. 1
I did something that I never do… I went to a store to do a dressing room try-on for all of you. I am calling this Vol. 1, and I wonder if there be a volume 2? Lol! Ordering online is my preferred method to get clothing for several reasons. Some of the biggest reasons are because I don’t have to get dressed, drive to the stores, be hassled to find a parking spot, and I usually don’t have the correct shoes or jewelry to make the clothing look like I want. Not to mention, I’m not fond of taking my clothes off in public, especially with all of the “hidden cameras” I hear about.
But, I decided that since I was in an area with a few stores, I love to shop with, I would do this series. If you like it, then I might try to do more. I will show you each of the outfits, and then I’ll tell you more about each one in more detail later in this post. Also, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom, where I have a couple of questions for you. I can’t wait to see who knows me best!
Now that you’ve had a glimpse of each outfit, I’ll show each one in more detail. Remember, these are just items that I picked up as I walked through the store, so they aren’t “styled,” and there might be other ways that I would choose to wear the items once I got them home with me. Also, I wore a pair of neutral-colored flats so that they wouldn’t take away from the items I was trying on, but they aren’t necessarily the choice I would make if I were wearing the outfit at home.
I really fell in love with this simple and elegant outfit. This navy and white striped ballet neck top is part of the Wearever line at J.Jill. When I first saw the Whenever line, I thought it said Whatever line, and I was a tad bit confused. Lol! I haven’t read up on this line, but it seems like a fantastic travel line from the items that I chose since everything seems to be wrinkle-free or resistant. I am wearing a medium in the top.
The pull-on full-leg knit trousers are fabulous! These feel so good against my skin, and the draping is fantastic. I love the no-wrinkle feature, even if I am not traveling across the country or for hours in the car. I don’t like arriving at a dinner date (like I have those 🙄 ) and looking like a wrinkled mess. I am wearing a medium in the pants, which is the correct size for me.
I even added a Safari Jacket to the outfit for a different look. The jacket changed the look from casual to dressy, and it looks like I am getting ready to head out for the evening. The outfit looks great, but I would also style the jacket and top with a pair of white skinnier leg pants and heels. I have on a large jacket, and it is too big for me. I usually wear a size 10 in jackets so that a medium would have looked better.
The jacket is made from the same great material, so it too would arrive at your destination wrinkle-free!
Did I mention that I love this material? Lol! This Layering Tank is fabulous! I love that it is a longer length that hits me below my hips. This is great for wearing with leggings, but you can also tuck it for a different look. I did the French Tuck here, which means that I only tucked one side in and left the other hanging out. This creates an asymmetrical look and some visual interest.
You can easily wear this tank under jackets and cardigans, but with the nice wide straps, it looks fine worn by itself. I am wearing a medium, and it fits great. The tank comes in several other colors and also in a print.
I didn’t think that I would be a fan of these wide-leg crops, but I was wrong. The sales lady brought me these to try on, so I said, “what the heck, why not?” This is why you should always be open to new ideas and new styles. Sometimes, you might ger surprised as I did. Lol! I am wearing a medium in the crops, and yes, they are made in the same material. Lol! I told you that I loved it!!!
When I picked this linen tee, I didn’t choose it to wear with the pink crops. But, I ended up loving the color combination Aegean mist top and the bougainvillea sailor crops. I thought the lightweight scarf was a great added touch. This would look great with a navy top and these crops and would tie the look together. The linen tee is a mixed media top with linen material on the front and a soft knit back and sleeves. That gives the top a nice comfortable feel, and it doesn’t feel so stiff as some linen items will. This is a size medium that I have on.
This is the same pair of wide-leg pants that I wore above with the striped top. I love wearing navy and white together, so adding a simple white short sleeve tee to the navy pants is a classic and simple look. Adding accessories to this simple outfit will punch up the look and give it some character. So, I added this soft and lightweight palm print scarf, and I LOVE the look. The scarf is wide enough that you can wear it as a wrap over your shoulders, and it would be great to wear with sleeveless tops. Wearing this scarf in the summer isn’t an issue since they added linen to the material, which keeps it light and airy.
The white short sleeve v-neck tee is in the same Wearable knit material. J.Jill calls this the Perfect V-neck Tee, and I have to agree with them. The weight of the material is superb, the fit is fabulous, and I love the length of the tee. Honestly, the only con that I have is that it is a little on the expensive side. Do I think that it is worth it? That all depends on how often you would wear the tee. Do you need a wrinkle-free material, and does your budget allow for the expense? There are many other v-neck tees out there, but this one is definitely one of the nicest. I am wearing a medium.
Here is an up-close look at the top and scarf.
While I had on the white v-neck tee and scarf, I wanted to show you a white-on-white tonal look. I love wearing white-on-white in the summer, and I think it is one of the classiest and most elegant looks.
These casual crop jeans have a cute and unique feature. Can you see the fringed hem detail? I love details that set clothing apart from all of the rest, and these crops are so cute. The fringed hem is not even supposed to fray, so you won’t have those long strings hanging or catching your toes in them as you slip the jeans on. Lol! Yes, I am speaking from experience!!! Lol!
I am wearing my usual size 10 in these, and I think they fit great. The jeans come in several other colors and one print. I am partial to the light pebble color, and I think it would be a great summer neutral.
While I had on the white crop jeans, I put on this navy blouse with white embroidered wildflowers. I am pretty sure that this top was the first item that I picked out when I walked into the store. I love how the white embroidery pops off of the dark navy background. Plus, I love the slightly crinkled material and the relaxed flowy feel of the top. The shirt has lots of details like covered buttons, pleats, and darts that show how nicely constructed it is. Also, the top is lightweight and didn’t feel hot even though it has long sleeves. I am wearing a medium, and I liked the fit.
I felt very sailor-ish in this outfit. Lol! I am not sure if it was the sailor-style crop pants or the wide striped top. Either way, I felt a nautical vibe once I put on the outfit. When I spotted these crops, it was actually the pin-striped blue pair that caught my attention. I am not sure how the white pair ended up in my hands. Lol!
The coconut shell buttons are a nice detail, and the pants unbutton on the left side for putting them on. The pants are 100% linen so that they will be light and airy in the summer. I have on a large in these, but a medium is what I needed.
Well, I can’t tell you anything about this striped top since I can’t find it on the website. Maybe one of you sleuths can search it out for me, but I give up. Lol!
I already mentioned the mixed media tee, so this time, I’ll just talk about the printed maxi skirt. This gorgeous aqua skirt has the prettiest print. I love the print mixture since I am not good at mixing prints. The waist is smocked for a nice fit, and that creates shirring under it all around for a full look. The skirt is very feminine and delicate looking, and I love the border at the hem. I am wearing a medium, and that seems to be the best size for me.
Finally, the last outfit. You’ve really already seen most of this look, but with different items. I am wearing the Perfect V-Neck Tee and the lightweight scarf with the navy tassels on each end. The scarf is called a diamond scarf, not because of the print but because of its shape.
Here is an up-close look at the scarf so that you can see the colors and print better. The scarf is VERY lightweight, and it would be the perfect size for tying onto your handbag.
These are the same sailor crops, but these are in the bougainvillea color. I love this bright color, and I think the crops look perfect for summer. This pair is a little big on me since it was a large, and they had to switch it out for me later.
Here are a few questions for you.
- Did you like the dressing room try-on?
- Was this too much clothing, not enough, or just the right amount?
- What do you think came home with me? I kept FIVE items plus a dress that somehow didn’t make this post.
I can’t wait to see who knows my style the best.
Since my SHOP THE POST widget doesn’t work for this retailer, I’ll do a round-up of all the items here.

I enjoyed Inside the Dressing Room a lot. I love the shoes you wore. They look so nice on you.
I would have bought the navy slacks, v neck white tee, the white crops (you were rocking those) definitely the embroidered navy top, maybe the palm frond wide leg capris. I wasn’t crazy about the gauzy linen things. I liked the colors, but not the fit. I thought they didn’t do much for you and thought you could do better. I liked the palm frond print scarf, but not the one with blue tips – too small.
Again, I really enjoyed this.
I have saved a lot of your looks to my Pinterest board. It gives me ideas about how to put an outfit together. If it’s navy blue, it comes home with me so I am very partial to navy.
I check your blog every morning to encourage me to look through m,y closet for a day look. Many of your suggestions I have used. Also, have purchased from sites I had never used before like Old Navy. You are a delight. Thank you.
I absolutely love the way you put your outfits together. I find personally I am wearing my clothing way to big. It’s probably working against me thinking I am hiding under the clothing and instead just making me look larger than what I really am. Your outfit with the blue slacks and white t-shirt look stunning. If it’s not rude to ask but how tall are you and your weight. It would give me a better perspective of what clothes would look good on me. I hope you don’t mind me asking such a personal question. You look great!!!
Sue, wearing clothing too big is a common mistake that women make. We don’t want to show our rolls, but there are better ways to camouflage them. I am 5’6″ tall, and I usually weigh between 155-165 at any given time. I usually wear a size 10 in pants, a medium or large in tops, and a size 12 in dresses.
J.Jill is a regular spot for me to shop so I appreciate you trying on things I didn’t get to or wasn’t sure about….
Yes, I loved the try-on session. I live minutes away from J.Jill, Talbots and others. I do like J. Jill clothes and colors, but my items have pilled. Didn’t get even one season out tops I purchased there. I may go back in to see the Whenever collection that looked great on you. We are similar body types so I love seeing what I like on you. Do let us know how the top/v-neck tee holds up after washing, please. Many thanks! I would love to see you do this again!
I loved the dressing room try on post. Great looking outfits. You look so VERY classy! They were very much my style even though I only have a couple of things I’ve ever bought from J.Jill. I live an hour or more away from anything other than Walmart, Cato and Maurice’s so I completely understand why you prefer to order online. Maybe you could make the dressing room kind of posts a quarterly item
This is my very favorite post to date!! LOTS of pictures and less copy. Please do more!!😊
Love this post! Dressing room try ons are so helpful for readers as we can see how the outfits look on real people..please continue with this type of post.. I like JJill but sometimes they do seem a bit pricey but they run sales and the quality is great..I think they are similar in quality and price to Talbots but their things seem a little more relaxed and not as preppy as Talbots….I really love both stores..I am a fairly new follower so not sure I know your style enough to guess correctly what you took home but I will give it a shot…1)navy and white ballet top 2)navy pants 3)large scarf 4)pink linen pants 5)blue and white embroidered top…
After seeing you in so many cute outfits, I Must get to JJill stat😊
I hope the long navy pants with navy and white striped top went home with you and I love the perfect white v neck tee on you as well. They all looked great! I love Jill.
Oh boy…you went into a store and I’m in trouble… I love everything (with maybe one exception!).
I can’t imagine what you went home with. How could you possibly choose? Everything looks great!
The tank and the tee that you modeled both looked like they were an ivory color, but the website only shows white. Did they come in ivory, but maybe are sold out, or do you have on the white? Maybe the lighting made them look different.
I don’t think the amount you modeled was too much. I love posts like this; lots of options. They all really look so pretty on you. I like the first and second outfits best on you! Can’t wait to see what you decided.
You look great in all the clothes! I really loved this post and all of the different styles. I haven’t shopped j jill but maybe I should check it out!
You did a GREAT job on your first dressing-room adventure! Navy is definitely your color, but I loved the black and white cropped pants outfit, too. I vote for you to do it again. Better you than me! It’s exhausting, I know.
Nice change! Just the right amount of clothing… not overwhelming and versatile pieces. What you went home with:
1. Bougainvillea crops
2. Layering tank
3. Skinny scarf
4. Navy & white striped top
5. Linen tee
It was hard to decide!
Please do more posts like this! Your usual Talbots and Chico’s is not my style but these classy, more basic looks are awesome!! You looked beautiful in these clothes!!!
I love the try on session, it was good all round!
I think you went home with the …
Pink cropped linen pants.
White cropped jeans.
Lightweight scarfs.
Love love LOVE the navy blouse with white embroidered wildflowers! Definitely buying it!!
The sleeveless top with the palm print crops is beautifully chic! Wow!
I liked all the choices. Sometimes the try on is too limited. I also like seeing items on actual people. Everything was so cute!
Tania, loved this post!!!
It really helps to see how clothes look on people instead of on mannequins.
Here is the link to the striped blouse:

I like the dressing room try on !!! I think you should do it again.
And I really liked that you tried on so many things.
So, what came home…. the white v neck tee, the palm crop pants, the pink and purple scarf, the pink crops and the embroidered navy top.
I loved this in-store try-on post and your observations on these items!!! Thanks for doing this!
Absolutely LOVED this! I have walked past J Jill at least 100x and never went in. You changed that!! I will be stopping in to check out the Wear Ever line!
Thank you so much for doing this!
I cannot find the navy full leg pants on line, it just shows the black when I search or click on your list. Help!!
Oh no!!! They must have already sold out! I see a crop version, or slim ankle length. WOuld one of those work for you?
You are adorable! Reading your posts is like I’m reading something written by a friend.
I love the blue top with flowers. Going to try it on. I have a lot of the JJill Wearever line. In fact I have both the cream tank and v-neck.
Love the try on session. I don’t like to do it so much, but you doing it is fun. I think you kept the navy striped top and the navy pants. Also the white cropped jeans and the embroidered navy top. Last the cute tasseled scarf. My favorite outfit is the embroidered top and the cropped jeans. I like the perfect v-neck tee in the blue color but they don’t have my size. Boo hoo
Love the dressing room try one’s! Just right the amount. You looked great in all of them-did you keep them all??🙂
I’m a big fan of JJill and I wish you would feature them more often. LOVE all the outfits!
Hey Tania, love the dressing room try ons! On to Vol 2. Lol. I was smitten with every outfit. I am always drawn to JJill but I feel frumpy in there clothes as they are so flowy – which I love but my body doesn’t seem to like. I think it’s my height-short. Anyhoo, you look great in JJill and should be their cover model! 😊
I hope you do more posts like this. Very helpful and you look great.
I love the outfit with the palm tree crops!
I loved the dressing room try on. Please do more of these. Each outfit was great and I loved them all.
I loved this post. J.Jill is my favorite store. Please do a try/on again! (I would have come home with everything!)
I really enjoyed the dressing room try ons. JJill is a shop I frequently buy from, so I loved seeing you feature various outfits. One thing about JJill is that everything eventually goes on sale, so I rarely pay full price for anything. That tee that you thought was a bit pricey is much more reasonable when 30% off!
I think you came home with the navy pants and strip top. Pink pants and white top. Liked the way you mixed and matched the outfits. This will sure help me when shopping
I loved this (just the right amount of outfits styled)and all the outfits looked great on you. I am surprised how well the wide leg crop pants looked. My guess is navy pants, navy striped top, pink wide leg crops, scarf and navy wildflower top (figured you already have several white tees).
I really liked this dressing room try-on session and hope you do it again. It was the right amount of clothes.
I think you took home the first set- navy pants and striped ballet neck top, white crop pants, navy top with embroidered white flowers, and the print scarf.
This was fun! I love those pink pants, I hope they came home with you. Wear them for the pear shaped girls who don’t want to call that much attention to their big hips and stubby legs!
Love these cute outfits! You look fabulous in all of them! 😊
I loved this! I finally see where you get your clothes and how to put together. Do this more.
Thank you
Donna
This was great. I also follow another blogger(which is how I found you) and love the dressing room diaries. It is super helpful to me as our body styles and size are nearly identical. i really enjoy your blog but not sure credit card is going to! lol.
Yes! Just the right amount! I hope you will restyle the outfits you bought with your wonderful collection of accessories & shoes.
Love that you switched things up with a dressing room try on! Just enough outfits for me!
My guesses (hopes) for your choices are OUTFIT #1 With the safari jacket – OUTFIT #2 – wide leg pants with the white top and palm scarf.
Thanks Tania! I enjoyed the dressing room try-on. The ideas are wonderful. I like the variety of different locations you use. And, I like how you encourage us to be our best. Keep it up and enjoy each minute.
Love it all!! My favorite is the palm print pants!! So cute!!
I loved the dressing room try-on and look forward to seeing more. I’m a tactile shopper and much prefer to shop in person rather than online. I think you tried on a good amount of items. I guess that you took home the navy & white striped top with the navy pants, the white layering tank, white casual crop jeans and the navy embroidered blouse. That being said, everything looked great on you!
I really like the dressing room try-on session. Please do more of them.
Tania! You looked great in every single outfit…in fact, stunning even! I loved this post, each outfit on you just elevated you to a higher level of style. I don’t know how you picked just five pieces. Please do more of these. I see you evolving into a more sophisticated chic version of yourself and it is very flattering. Great job!
Tania you are adorable in everything and the fitting room try ons were fun. But I like the whole entire outfits with the jewelry, the purse and the shoes. But for a switch off once in awhile is good. My fav was the navy blouse with the white flowers so I hope you got that. I like the wide leg crop pants but not the naval looking pants. The skirt and top was my least fav and I like the striped shirt. I can’t wear scarves even though I love them on others. Thanks for a good time shopping this morning.
I love the dressing room try on! JJill is one of my favorite stores so I really enjoyed this one. I have several of the Wearever tanks – they are wonderful so I try to grab one when they run a sale. All the outfits looked fantastic on you!
Love it all!!
I liked the session and think you showed the right number of outfits. Would like to see it again. I think you took home the white cropped pants, the navy top with flowers, the blue and white striped elbow length t.shirt, the navy pants and the white v-neck t.shirt.
Loved this, post ! I enjoy shopping at JJill and while it can be a bit expensive, they have great sales frequently.
I love JJill clothing. Have worn their clothes for years. Their Wearever styles are always in style. All of these outfits look amazing on you. Thanx!
I really liked this try on session and no it was not too many clothes. When I go shopping I probably try on double what you did and maybe walk out with one thing. I’m not sure what you left with but i hope it was the first outfit, navy stripped top with Navy pants. That looked so good on you, and not that you need it but was very slimming. I loved the 2nd outfit too so that would be 4 items and then the pink pants would be 5the. Now I am curious how I did.
I did like this session. I’m not good at returning things online so I like to go to store. Although Covid taught me I can indeed shop on line. I’m gonna need that navy outfit as I can’t handle wrinkles. Lol
I think you kept the print crops, the tank top, the navy stripes with pants and the safari jacket.
Also I just bought some wide leg crepe crops for a party and couldn’t decide how to style them so thank you for showing me the French tuck.
I loved this post and the amount of clothing was perfect. I think you got the first pair of cropped pants, and all 3 of the first outfit, and tank…or the cropped jeans. Oh wait! That is what I would get, LOL!
Loved the dressing room try-on and hope you’ll do it again. All the outfits you chose looked great on you. I enjoy reading your blog everyday.
This was such a fun post. Please do more of these! I loved all of these outfits. J.jill has such beautiful, high quality clothing. Have a great weekend, Tania!
I really enjoy the try-on sessions and you found some great items. I hope you kept the wildflower top, navy pants, navy stripe ballet top, and safari jacket, black palm print crops and the tassel scarf.
Btw… your tanned arms look amazing!
I loved being in the dressing room with you! This seemed like just the right number of clothes. I’m excited to hear which outfits you kept.
Oh my gosh! Perfect timing my daughter is having a simple backyard reception next weekend I live the White tank and palm tree black
And White wide leg crops Perfect!
Yes, love the dressing room try-on and the amount of clothing is perfect! I think you kept the layering tank, wide leg crops, the black and white embroidered top, the white crop pants and the striped top.
Love the dressing room try on. Would love to see more! I think you took home the three pieces of the navy pants/striped boatneck/safari jacket along with the white jeans and bougainvillea colored pants… You do love color!
I really enjoy your posts. Thanks for sharing your ideas and being so positive.
Loved everything you tried on today. (JJill is my favorite store!) I especially loved the navy top with the white embroidery. Also the striped one. Of course ordering online has been the norm for the past year, but I’ve missed shopping in stores. Sometimes a description just can’t describe the feel of the fabric or the exact color and fit. I’ve had to return a lot of items from ordering online that I thought I would love!
Love the dressing room try on! So many options!! Love the palm leaf crops outfit and the beautiful skirt!
Tania – I loved your try-on session! You really have a knack for showing us how clothes really look, and how they drape & feel when you wear them! I also liked how you moved out of the actual dressing room for the photos! NO ONE ELSE does this. It was really like having your best friend try on clothes with you. I LOVE that skirt and the embroidered top!
Good morning!
Lol I thought you did home try on due to covid. Yes dressing room was good. I think you kept the first outfit. Pants, stripe shirt and Jacket. Possibly one of the sailor pants and the dress we can’t see.
I am so glad dressing rooms are open again. I started doing a lot of on line shopping and many many returns. Keeping track of refunds got old.
Loved the pastel colors on you.
I loved this post! It was awesome to see you trying on items that you would not normally choose and I thought they all suited you perfectly! I thought the amount of outfits was great—any less and I would have been disappointed! Would love to see more posts like this!
Wish I could find so many great outfits when I shop!
Loved the try ons! So much from which to choose. I especially loved the scarf with the tassels, since I am only 5’2” some scarves are overwhelming .
Thanks for providing us with so many options.
Tania, I just started following your blog and I absolutely adore you! I loved this idea of the dressing room session and I thought the number outfits was perfect. I’m going to guess that you kept the first two outfits, plus the navy embroidered top.
You look fabulous in everything and now I want to go check out JJill! Haven’t been in ages and last time I wasn’t too impressed with what I saw but these have me thinking it’s time to pay them another visit. This was fun!
xo,
Kellyann
I think you kept the Navy safari jacket outfit. It looked fabulous on you. I loved your shoes! They went well with everything. Where can I get those shoes???
Yes
Just right
1. navy blouse with white embroidered wildflowers
2. This navy and white striped ballet neck top
3 layering tank
4. Bougainvillea crops
5 black crops with fern pattern
Loved the try on session! Hope you kept the navy embroidered blouse because it’s so pretty and it looks GREAT on you! (Honestly! Better on you than the model on their website!)
