More bang for your buck! I waffle back and forth between buying high-end and low-end clothing. I don’t think that everything that you buy needs to last you for 15 years. Some things are meant to last for a couple of years and then be replaced with current styles. The series that I am doing this week will show you how to take your summer clothing and make it work for fall. Welcome to my Now and Later series!

I hate the job of pulling out the fall clothing and storing the summer items, so I try to buy a lot of clothing that can be worn in multiple seasons. Sleeveless tops can be worn all year round since they layer nicely under cardigans and jackets. Loafer can be worn all year round if the material is not too heavy for the summer months. Finding items that will work for you now and later is the key!

Here is a post I did last year on this same subject, but I styled one item for all 4 seasons!

This gorgeous animal print is a great example of an item that I can wear now and later. Animal print is always in style, but sometimes the traditional color of an animal print can seem too dark for spring and summer. This bright-colored animal print top can be worn easily in the warmer months, but it will transition into fall perfectly!

I am a huge fan of 3/4 length sleeves! The 3/4 length sleeve is the most flattering for most people, and you will see me shove my long sleeves up to this length when I can. I am also a huge fan of shorter tops in the front so that my legs look longer but longer in the back to cover my rear. The top is a size 1, and it fits me great.

I love mixing my metals when wearing jewelry. I wear gold and silver together often, but it didn’t come easily to me when I first started doing that. When I grew up, you wore one or the other, so mixing them seemed odd. I like that a lot of jewelry now comes pre-mixed for you, which helps take the oddness out of the equation.

The mixed metal earrings combine a textured hoop of silvertone and goldtone chain surrounded by a larger silvertone hoop. I also have the matching necklace and bracelet if you are interested in those. Also, here are a pair of knot clip-on earrings that will give you ladies who don’t have pierced ears the same look.

But, for today’s look, I added a darker necklace to match my sunglasses. This necklace is a new one that I just purchased, but I don’t see it on the website. So, it might be new to me but already sold out. I’ll try and link to some similar ones for you below.

It seems like I have fallen in love with pull-on jeans. The big difference is, brands have upped their game when it comes to pull-on pants. In the past, you had bunching in the front, and that wasn’t a great look. Nowadays, the front panel is flat and looks like a pair of regular jeans, except they are much easier to wear since there is no zipper or clasp to navigate.

This slim pull-on bootcut pair is comfy and stylish and extremely easy to put on. They also come in a tall version, which would give you a 34″ inseam instead of the 31″ one with the regular size. I am wearing the Jackson Indigo color, and I am wearing a size 1 in these jeans.

This leather camel handbag is a great example of being able to use something for now and later. In fact, you could carry this handbag all year round and never have to change it out. It is a great neutral color that works well with any outfit, and it works for every season also. It does come with a shoulder strap, but I usually carry it with the handle.

These canvas espadrilles are a great neutral, but they won’t work all year round. You can wear them into the fall, but they aren’t really winter-style shoes. I usually get by with wearing these neutral for 3 seasons, but the 4th season calls for something heavier. That would be when I would add a boot or bootie, but I am now wearing these as long as I can. BTW, they run true to size.

When the temperatures start to drop, you can easily transition into a fall outfit by adding an extra layer for warmth. Today, all I did to make this animal print outfit ready for fall was add a denim jacket.

The denim jacket is a clothing item that you need! This is an extremely versatile item, and you can wear it pretty much all year round. If you live in extreme climates, whether hot or cold, you might be limited on the seasons that you can wear the jacket. But, for me, I can wear a lightweight denim jacket at any time.

I “think” the denim jacket that I am wearing is from Talbots. I am not 100% sure because I didn’t look at the tag, and I own denim jackets from multiple retailers. For the most part, I will order a large when it comes to jackets since I know that I will be wearing something underneath them. I don’t like it when a jacket fits too tightly across the shoulders, which can happen when you add layers.

Even though the top under the jacket is much longer, this look is not one that you have to worry about. Letting the top extend past the jacket is perfectly fine, and I think it still looks great.

The last item that I forgot to tell you about is my Quay (pronounced like key) sunglasses. This brand has amazing styles, and the cost is very affordable. I have several styles from this brand. My DIL is the one who turned me on to this brand after I admired several of her pairs. I like that I can change out my glasses with each outfit, and I don’t have a fortune in them. Also, since I am prone to losing glasses, it doesn’t kill my soul as much when I’ve misplaced a pair under $50.00.

  1. I really like the different colors of the animal print top. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before. I also like 3/4 length sleeves. I also like the pull on jeans. Cute outfit. It’s right up my alley. I also refreshed my memory and clicked on the previous post about now and later and I really liked how you styled all those as well. You have so many great fashion tips.

  2. The neutral colors you had posted a couple weeks ago looked so good on you.
    Especially the color olive.
The olive color jacket you had on would look great with this top and jeans ..

I say YES to you doing a now and later series! I also hate changing out my clothes, especially since it involves going and down the attic stairs way to many times. I have to get used to it being okay for my tops to hang below my denim jacket since I wasn’t raised that way. Your top is very pretty! I also really like sleeves that are 3/4 length. Fantastic scripture!

  5. It is essential to have clothes that transition for us on the Coast. We could be freezing or wearing shorts for Christmas. I love the idea of the new series. I’ve been wearing pull on jeans a while now. I don’t tuck so no one knows but me.

  6. I like the idea of clothing items than span the seasons. I usually wear most of my clothes over at least three out of four seasons…. Would love to see your wear now, wear later blogs.
