HOW TO WEAR SOLID COLORS FOR MORE STYLES
I love buying solid colors so that I can mix and match to create more outfits. This monochromatic outfit is a perfect example of creating a column of color and adding accessories for interest. Creating a monochromatic outfit is CHIC and ELEGANT looking, and the red velvet pants add the luxurious touch that I was wanting.
This post is sponsored by Chico’s, and I will receive compensation, but the opinions expressed are my own.
Red is sure to draw everyone’s attention, but this tweed ruana wrap with an element of gold sparkle and shine is the star of this outfit. The classic tweed material of a combination of red, black, and white gets an addition of SHINE that is perfect for the holidays. A wrap is great for sprucing up and outfit, but it is also practical for warmth.
If a little sparkle and shine is good, then adding more is better! Capturing the ruana’s shine is hard, but the sparkle in the necklace and earrings really shows! I love the black bead Y-necklace and how it has lots of movement and motion. The necklace reminds me of vintage flapper beads, but these are already knotted for you. The black hoop earrings are chunks of black glistening stones, and they give off sparkle and shine. Chico’s has some of the most amazing statement jewelry, and it is handcrafted with nickel-free metal.
Dressing in a monochromatic look will have you looking long and lean. Velvet is elegant and luxurious looking, but it can be worn in a casual setting also. Pair these red velvet jeggings with an oversized sweater, a denim jacket, or a duster cardigan, and you’ve got a different look. I sized up in the jeggings to a size 1; however, I think my usual .5 would have fit me better.
Here is how you change things up when you dress in a monochromatic style. Wearing all black is not boring when you add velvet elements or a statement print like this ruana. Can you see yourself wearing this to a special event?
In case you missed the black velvet post that I did earlier, here are the links to these items.

Now, let’s add a gray/black animal print velveteen jacket to the red monochromatic look. Wow! This shows you how to spice things up and still look dressy and casual at the same time. I am wearing a mock-neck turtleneck in the color Stiletto. I was afraid that the material might show my bumps, so I sized up in this to a size 2. It is a little big on me, but at least you don’t see my rolls. Also, Chico’s is having a 50% off jackets and cardigans sale today, so this is a great time to grab this jacket.
I appreciate Chico’s for sponsoring this post and allowing me to tell all of my friends about their beautiful and unique clothing line.

Hi Tania, you are beautiful @over50. Please stop the Botox
Lol! Page, I’ve never done Botox in my life. Hahahaha! That made me laugh out loud.
I love black and red. I wear that combo a lot! I really like the all black with the red ruana! Very pretty!
The column of black helps to create a thinner look.
I love the black and red combo the best! Take care.
I really like that combo also.
You nailed it ! I put off buying holiday specific clothing because I hate just having one outfit to wear one time a year – these totally take care of that !
I thought about that when I was ordering these items. I love having things that can be versatile.
Fabulous! Just fabulous. I’m really re-thinking my opinion of Chicos.
I love Chico’s clothing! They are modern looking, and the quality is great.
Tania
Great Holiday outfits!!
Thank you
I am thrilled that you like them, Holly!
You look gorgeous! Red is your color. And, as a side note, I do believe you have the best head of hair I’ve ever seen!
Thanks, Lisa. I had to laugh at the hair comment. Lol!
Love the red ensemble. So sad those pants don’t come in tall.
Jan, I am 5’6″ tall, and they are plenty long enough for me.
So festive! Love it!
I thought it was very festive looking also, but I can see the opportunities for wearing it as an everyday outfit.
Hi Tania. I love red but I find the all red outfit overwhelming. My favourite combo in today’s post is the black pants and top with the red wrap to give the outfit a pop of colour. You always look amazing and thank you for sharing your style choices and family stories!
I love the black option also. Plus, that look is very slimming.
