Why Sequins Are Perfect for Women Over 50
When I started pulling this blog post together, I didn’t realize just how many sequined pieces I have in my closet! It’s funny how you don’t notice these things until you’re looking for them, but I guess that just goes to show how much I love a little sparkle. From tops to skirts and even shoes, sequins have a way of sneaking into my wardrobe—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think you girls will see just how fun and versatile they can be!

If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of sequins and sparkles! Here are the reasons I think you gals should give them a try, too, this holiday season:
- They highlight your best features. A sequined neckline or a shimmering skirt draws attention to your favorite areas in all the right ways.
- They add instant glam. Even your simplest outfit can go from “meh” to marvelous with a sprinkle of sparkle.
- They boost confidence. Let’s face it, nothing says “I’m fabulous!” quite like a little shimmer.
How to Pick the Right Sequined Pieces
Not all sequins are created equal, and that’s actually a good thing. Finding the right pieces for your style is half the fun. Here’s how to dip your toes—or dive headfirst—into the world of sequins.
Start Small
If sequins feel a little outside your comfort zone, don’t worry! Start small with a sparkly clutch, a scarf, or even sneakers. These subtle touches can ease you into the trend without feeling over the top.

See what I mean? These sequins totally take this plain old football sweatshirt to the next level! It’s such a fun way to add a little sparkle without going overboard. This just proves you don’t need to be dripping in sequins from head to toe to make a statement—a subtle touch here and there can make all the difference.
Focus on Fit
The fit is everything when it comes to sequins. A sequined top or skirt that’s too tight might draw attention for all the wrong reasons, but a well-fitting piece will make you look polished and pulled together.
Stick to Neutral Tones
Neutrals like black, navy, silver, gold, or champagne are timeless and sophisticated. I am much more likely to buy a sequined piece if it’s not in a bright rainbow color, but there are plenty of those out there if that’s more your style!
Mix Textures
I’ve worn a head-to-toe sequin outfit before, and trust me, they make a big statement. I much prefer pairing my sequins with softer, matte fabrics like denim, cashmere, or wool. The contrast will make your look feel modern and balanced. Plus, you won’t feel like a disco ball walking around!

How to Wear Sequins During the Day

Yes, you can wear sequins during the day! The key is keeping your look simple and understated. The sequin reindeer on this sweater is the perfect amount of sequins to add a little glam without making you feel overdressed. It has already sold out, so I linked a few other sequin sweaters you might like instead.
- Sequined Tops: Try a sequined sweater or blouse with your favorite jeans and ankle boots. Add a cardigan or blazer if you feel like you want to tone it down a little bit!

- Sequined Accessories: A sparkly tote bag or sneakers can bring just the right amount of pizzazz to your everyday outfit.
- Subtle Sequined Pieces: A cardigan or pullover with a hint of shimmer is perfect for a polished daytime look.
How to Wear Sequins in the Evening

When the occasion calls for a little extra glam, sequins are your best friend. Whether it’s a holiday party, a wedding, or a fancy dinner, sequins help you stand out in the best way.
- Sequined Dresses: A knee-length sequined dress in black, silver, or navy is elegant and chic. Pair it with nude heels and a sleek clutch.
- Sequined Skirts: A sequined midi skirt with a fitted turtleneck and ankle boots is effortlessly sophisticated.

This sequined herringbone skirt from Talbot’s is one of my favorite sequin skirts I’ve ever owned! It feels high-quality, and the knee length makes it easy to walk in. I paired it with a simple black cashmere sweater and tights, but you could add the matching jacket on top!
- Sequined Blazers: For a modern twist, throw a sequined blazer over an all-black outfit. It’s just enough sparkle without going overboard.

This embellished jacket is from last year, and I was shocked to see they still have a few sizes in stock if you hurry fast! It looks so classy and elegant with just enough shimmer. Perfect for any holiday parties you have on your calendar!

Verse Of The Day

16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

I love that glitz is back. Just a bit here or there can be so fun. Super cute skirts!
No sequins in my closet. will be checking out possibilities.
fun options with sequins.
A stray cat wandered into my parent’s house and stayed until both my parents passed on and then went to live with my brother. my folks had the cat for at least 15 years. Like your Mom’s cat, at first he was skiddidh, but soon made himself at home. Goodness, they loved that cat!
The sequin a-line skirt is awesome. The entire outfit is very classy!
Really like your sequined choices, and I’m especially loving the knee-length sequined herringbone skirt from Talbot’s! I can imagine wearing it with my black cable-knit turtleneck sweater, my black tights & riding boots, so this girl might just have to order it! 😉
All of these sequined items are wonderful. How lovely to add some sparkle to our days. Thanks so much for all your excellent & joyous content!
Tom is a cute kitty. I can’t believe that your parents have moved, but I do hope that they will be happy in their new home. Because we are deer hunters and live way out in the country, with close to 100 acres, I’d wear a tee with a sequined deer during the colder months.
My parents didn’t move far. They had a home on a mountain, and another one at the bottom that they intended to sell. They decided to move into the one at the bottom of the mountain instead of selling it.
I love all of these
How fun
You showed some great ideas. Most of my sparkle is in accessories ie. purse,
brooch, scarf.
I love sequins at the holidays…always a good choice!
