Find Your Style @50isnotoldHave you ever wondered how to find your style? I know I have. I know what I like, but is that a style? I have always loved the style of Aubrey Hepburn. But, I cannot quite translate her style into my wardrobe, but I will keep trying. Let’s look at a few different styles and see what category you fall into.Find Your Style @50isnotold BohoFind Your Style @50isnotold Boho1

Boho – Do you love wearing flowy, romantic tops, skirts, and dresses. I think of gypsy’s and artsy type people. A little more casual, but still pretty. You have a relaxed, easy-going look. I think it is a very feminine look.

Your color palette includes white, off-white, earth tones, brown, and some beachy colors like turquoise and coral.

Find Your Style @50isnotold Classic1Find Your Style @50isnotold ClassicClassic –Are you one that sticks to the basics? Does shopping at Gap, Talbots, and Ann Taylor seem like your cup of tea? You like white button-down shirts, jeans and slacks, a black blazer, a perfect little black dress, and maybe a pea coat. Nice purses and pearls are some of your favorite accessories.

Your color palette is white, and black, and denim, with a splash of color in the form of an accessories. Basically neutral in color. The greatest example of a classic is, of course, Jackie O.

Find Your Style @50isnotold Preppy1Find Your Style @50isnotold PreppyPreppy – Preppy and Classic styles are very similar. You like simple staple pieces. Basic pieces like  a T-shirt, blazer, white shirt, suit, and trousers are the cornerstone of your wardrobe.

When I think of preppy, I automatically think of polo shirts, country clubs, and maybe someone named Biff.

Your color palette is navy blue, kelly green, and pink, all paired with crisp white. You like bold prints, such as plaid, madras, and argyle.

Find Your Style @50isnotold VintageFind Your Style @50isnotold Vintage1Vintage – You like things that have stood the test of time. You like a garment that is not only well made, but usually one of a kind. You like taking something from a different era and giving it a whole new life. It is not about living in the past, but about keeping the past alive.

Your color palette is varied. You enjoy a variety of colors and patterns.

Find Your Style @50isnotold FashionistaFind Your Style @50isnotold Fashionista 1Fashionista – You love to dress up and are up on all the latest trends. You love to wear designer labels. You know that adding a special piece (probably expensive) can make the look appear expensive. You never miss an issue of Vogue, Elle, or Harper’s Bazaar.

Your color palette is black, and any color on the pantone color of the year chart.

Find Your Style @50isnotold EdgyFind Your Style @50isnotold Edgy1Edgy – Your willing to step outside the box. You are adventurous. You are a dreamer and will walk  to your own beat. You are confident and it shows in your clothing choices. And, you are a tad bit eccentric. Leather jackets, graphic T’s, mini skirts and leggings, and combat boots might be in your closet. You are one of a kind, so don’t change. Your hair style might be spikey, or brightly colored.

Don’t worry if you can’t find your style. If I stayed in one category, I would not have had pictures that fit (somewhat) in almost every one of these categories. I was telling my husband the other day that I was always amazed when someone commented that they liked my style. I told him that I didn’t have a “style”. He assured me that I most certainly did. He called it:

Find Your Style @50isnotold Trashy & ClassyFind Your Style @50isnotold Trashy & ClassyClassy with a little Trashy – I like this description!!! Here is his translation; think sexy and classic. I like to think he meant somebody like Marilyn Monroe. At my age, sexy is more demure than showing lots of cleavage. Leggings make it easy to show your leg, without showing lots of skin.

One of my husbands favorite lines from a song is, “I like my women just a little on the trashy side”. Hahaha! One of my favorite lines from a song is, “Don’t come home a drinking with loving on your mind”. Lol!

So, what is your style?

Hi I am nearly 60 but am only 5 ft and a bit heavier than I should be. I love how you put clothes together. I’m not good at knowing what suits me. Thankyou for your ideas

  2. Anders Lundis says:

You look absolutely stunning in this edgy and Beautiful outfit.

  3. My style……well probably a mix between classic and preppy. Love to mix basics with a splash of some bright color. Love your blog! And love my pearls.

  4. I really enjoyed your thought-provoking, insightful blog today! I have no idea where “my style” lands! Probably somewhere between “too casual” and “wanting to be trendy” street! Always been on the conservative side, but pushing myself a little to try new things. So easy to get stuck in a rut! How aging is that?! After a lifetime spent in a white uniform, and now “at home” so much, I see the importance of staying current while wanting to be fashionable & appropriate (not too old-ladyish!) 🙂 -I’m just beginning to enjoy the fun of accessories!

    1. I know what you mean Betty. I have to watch about wearing the same thing. I have even gone shopping and brought home an identical shirt I already have. I am going to blame that on knowing what I like, and not on losing what little mind I have. Lol!

My style is a combination of classic and preppy with a little trendy thrown in! Your husband is funny!!! Have a great day, love your blog gurl!

  6. I think we should develop our own INDIVIDUAL style. I think it is all about taking pieces of clothing that first of all fit well, are great colors for you and then making that outfit your own by doing what only YOU would do with it. I like taking classic pieces and keeping them fresh with shirts or different accessories. Every day can be an adventure and looking great makes you feel great.

  7. The best thing I have discovered and totally embraced as I’ve gotten older is that I no longer have, or want to fit into one style/category! And I’m LOVING IT!~ It’s fun to ‘play dress-up’ everyday~!!

  8. I’m classic mixed with preppy mixed with soccer mom with yoga pants. ????

  9. Hi, Tania! I just found you via Jo-Lynne and I’m SO glad! I’ve been enjoying reading through the archives this morning. I’m a 50-something who often talks myself out of outfits I’m afraid are “too young” but seeing how vibrant and fabulous you look will hopefully give me the confidence to push through that. Thank you, too for the brave post including your height and weight! We are almost the same, so that’s really helpful to get an idea of home something you’re wearing might look on me! Subscribed and looking forward to following along!

  10. Your husband is a funny man! Loved all the examples of “styles”. I think your personal style is confidence. You wear all these different labels with panache.

    1. I’ll tell my husband you think he is funny. He’ll get a kick out of that.????

  11. I loved your post today, I also found the humor amuzing . I often find myself struggling to find a “style”. When I read this post, I realized I can have a little bit of all styles in my closet. I find myself reaching for different types of clothing at different times, seasons etc. The problem with liking every type of style, is having enough room in my closet for everything I purchase!

    1. Just build another closet, Donna. Problem solved. Hahaha

  12. Melanie W. says:

Haha!! I love your husbands take on what your style is. Too funny. And I love that song!!!! I don’t know that I have a certain style either. All depends on my mood that day! ????

  13. Great post! You look terrific in all these styles which just goes to show that we women don’t need to be tied to one look at all. We can enjoy all the different “looks” that present themselves.

  14. Bernadine says:

Hi Tania! I am a fairly new reader of your blog and look forward to opening my email. I am a smidge over 60 but think like I am 40. I have been following a few Over 40 blogs but there was something missing (duh, 20 years maybe). Anyways, I found your blog thru them. I love 50isnottooold! Your outfits are up to date but age appropriate. Some of the over 60 blogs are too dowdy for me. Then talk about Honesty! How many woman are willing to post their weights to the world? You look fantastic, must be that trashy classy style I love. Keep on blogging!

    1. Thanks Bernadine???? Posting my weight was a little difficult, but if you see me in a bathing suit picture, you’ll know I have lost my mind. Haha

  15. How blessed you are that you can look so awesome in all of these “styles”! Makes me want to try something new. Thanks for the super descriptions and visuals! Love your blog!

    1. Thanks Kendra! I do feel blessed in many, many ways.????

  16. All of the above! But I think some of that is also that women our age have lived through so many eras of style! I think it broadens our fashion “repertoire” and us baby boomers have seen a LOT of fads come & go! I went from little Polly Flinders dresses of the early 60’s to wanting to be a go-go dancer and wear those dresses and boots as a pre-teen, and then the rush of hot pants, halter tops and flare jeans of the early 70s and then the cardigans and cowl necks of the late 70s! And let’s not forget those awful gauze gunny-sack maxi dresses! The 80s were just an adventure in terror and the 90s were just cool fun with baggier jeans and shiny black loafers and big belts that cinched the waist 🙂 I truly believe women our age have an advantage over the younger ones because we have seen the fashion trends go from totally modest and boring to totally outrageous and wild! You have found a way to bring all of these trends together in your “style”, all of them 🙂

    1. I left out the stirrup pants, but I hear they may be making a comeback. Fashion finds a way to recycle itself every so often.????

  17. Excellent rundown of some outstanding styles. It was like a montage, you should have put music with it lol!
I love that song your husband likes. My favorite line…
“Son, that’s a cocktail waitress with a Dolly Parton wig, I said I know it dad ain’t she cool? That’s the kind I dig” LoL!!!
Your posts are too funny Tania 😀

    1. I love that song Tania! We may have more alike than just the name!????
