HOW TO BUILD AN OUTFIT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM

I’ve already gotten a couple of messages asking me about Holiday Gift Guides and sales. I guess that I am behind because I wasn’t planning on doing any gift guides until mid-November. But, so many of you have told me that you are already doing your shopping this year, so I guess that I better be getting my rear in gear. To tell you the truth, I’ve already bought a couple of presents myself when Amazon Prime days happened, and a couple of the other stores also had big sales.

I guess I was thinking that most people would be waiting for Black Friday. Some of you have told me that you buy your presents early, and Black Friday is when you buy things for yourself and hubby. I think what you are telling me is that Black Friday is for a new TV, a new vacuum cleaner, or some other large household item.

I plan on working on gift guides this weekend, but I need your help. There are hundreds of guides that I could do, but I honestly don’t have the time to do THAT many. So, I was hoping you could help me narrow this down some by telling me what guides you would like. Some popular guides are children under 10, teenagers, young women, men, co-workers, gadgets, electronics, under $50 gifts, under $100 gifts, household gifts, hostess gifts, or your favorite blogger gift (lol). Would you like gift guides by brands such as Ulta, Tarte, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Walmart, or QVC and HSN? While you start thinking about this, I am going to show you today’s post on how to build an outfit.

When I start to build an outfit, I usually start with a top or a statement piece. There are times when I pick out a scarf, and then I will build an outfit around the colors in the scarf. Today, I wanted this merino wool-blend turtleneck to be my starting garment. I love wearing this icy blue/periwinkle color, especially in the winter. This turtleneck is fabulous, and it looks amazing. I am not one who likes tight necks on my turtlenecks, but I love this one. The neck is snug, but not terribly tight, and I loved how it fits everywhere else. I can see myself wearing this all winter long with camel, black, ivory, and a lot of other colors. I am wearing a large, and I like the relaxed look.

After I pick out a starting place, then it is time to build on the outfit. I needed to decide between adding a necklace to the look or adding a scarf. I just bought this floral jungle print scarf from Talbots, and I thought it looked great with the turtleneck. Woohoo! The scarf adds dimension, and it also hides my tummy region, so it is a win-win for me. Unfortunately, the scarf doesn’t seem to be on the website any longer, but I’ll link to some other scarves that I recently bought and haven’t styled yet.

I did add my Selena goldtone hoops that have little crystals on them and my Whitley chain bracelet in gold. The bracelet has crystals on both sides of the latch also for a little extra bling.

Did you see me style these jeans yesterday? If not, then you need to check out that post because you will be surprised at all of the fall clothing I found at Walmart. I love, love, love these mid-rise bootcut jeans. Someone, not saying who, might have worn them for three days after they arrived (true story), but they felt so great that they couldn’t make themself stop. I love the color and the fit, and they have a 32″ inseam, which is perfect for me. These are my usual size 10, and as I said, they fit perfectly! The jeans also come in a lighter rinse and black, and they will be the best $27.00 that you’ve spent in a long time.

I could have stopped with the turtleneck or the turtleneck and the scarf, but I also decided to add a jacket. This is an old blazer that my husband bought me from Talbots years ago. This is a classic style and a classic camel color, so I will wear this for years. Joe has great taste; after all, he married me. Lol! Here are some similar blazers.

If you are sick of seeing leopard print everywhere this year, then you might want to check out a cowhide print. I bought this clutch a couple of years ago, and I love the color and how it is a little different. The neutral colors go with almost anything, so you can carry this for most occasions.

You can’t forget the shoes when you are getting ready to build an outfit. I chose a flat loafer today because I felt like this was a classic look and called for a classic loafer. These camel loafers are by Steve Madden, and they go with everything. I’m wearing my usual size 9, so I think these run true to size.

Don’t forget to help me out with the Holiday Gift guides, and the more specific you are, the better it will be for me. BTW, if you want to add Rodan and Fields skincare to YOUR holiday list, send your husband my way, and I’ll give him a great deal for you.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

  1. your outfit is so classic and the colors and style are perfect. I need so much help for grandkids who seem to have everything, and grandparents do not have the budget to accommodate. so ideas for kids 4 – 12 both girls and boys would be so helpful.

  2. Hostess gifts. I am not a wine drinker, so cannot pick out a good wine. We are invited to an open house being thrown by a single older man for his new house. Stumped! Also gifts for older parents. (80s and 90s) Don’t have hobbies and don’t need anything. Also wanted to say your outfit is lovely. Periwinkle is one of my favorite colors.
