HOW TO ADD A MODERN LOOK TO A CLASSIC STYLE
The other day as I was scrolling through Facebook, I ran across a post from one of my friends in California and she was talking about joy. She mentioned that she wished she spent more time on the things that brought her lots of joy, instead of some of the other commitments, etc. that she spends too much time on. I loved the thought of only doing what makes you joyous, but I also realize that there are a lot of things that we have to do, even though there might not be any joy involved. Paying bills is definitely
not joyous, but having my lights still on because I paid the bill, is something to be happy about. Lol! Then I thought how cool that was, so I decided to do my “own” version. Because I am lazy, and I didn’t want to re-type the entire post, I did a quick copy and paste. Then I went in and deleted things that didn’t apply to me, and added items that were more personal to me and my life. Have you ever tried to list things that give you joy? The list can go on and on and on and on if you get what I am saying. It is a wonderful idea, but to limit the number of things that give you joy to twenty items is not really possible. Anyway, I got a text from my daughter telling me that I was in trouble! I knew immediately what she was talking about. I hadn’t listed talking to my mother as one of my “joys” in life. Lol! Later in the day, my sister couldn’t wait to tell me that my Aunt told my mother not to worry, they didn’t make the list either. Lol! Yes, I love my family, even the ones who should have already known that without me listing them each separately. Here’s to Margie, James, Jack, Ellery, Amanda, Brooke, Chandler, Allison, Rachel, JD, Nancy, Gay, Faye, Ann, Karen, Bruce, Danny, Ralph, and the rest of the Hee Haw gang. Lol! PS: Be careful if you decide to do one of these lists, you can see how much joy it might create. Hahaha!
This outfit looks exactly like something that my sister would wear. She loves wearing black on black, so this post is dedicated to her. I know that all of you have events that you go to where you need to dress up and look extra nice. You can not go wrong when you wear a classic black and white outfit like this. To keep from being too hot, I am wearing a spaghetti black chiffon tank that I bought from Nordstrom before Christmas. This is a flattering style with the v neck and the sheer section at the neckline. It is purrrfect for a date night out with someone special. Here is the link to the camisole.
On Saturday, I wore a teal and green vintage jewelry set. I bought that set and this beautiful vintage Maltese cross at the same time. Every year my mother and her friend hold a vintage fashion show in the Marietta Georgia area, and I try to make sure that I am available to go and help with the show. I love vintage jewelry, so I almost always come home with a special find or two. This bold piece is made with large baroque pearls and different styles of deep red rhinestones all set in gold. Even the large gold chain makes a statement all by itself. I have several Maltese Cross necklaces, and you can find a lot to choose from on eBay and Etsy.
Playing off of the red necklace, I added these fun red pumps by Michael Kors. I can’t believe that I never used to wear red because it is now one of my favorite colors to wear. I love bringing a pop of color to a black and white outfit, it elevates the look to a more modern outfit. The shoes that I am wearing are the suede version, but here are a few different styles and heel heights.

Love this outfit and the accessories, really takes it up a notch!
I don’t typically wear red as I am a redhead and not all shades of red look good on me. When I read this post a light bulb moment happened and I thought, I could wear red on my feet! It seems so simple but for some reason I have never given it a thought. Thanks for the inspiration and have a wonderful day!!
I first saw today’s outfit on Facebook and it looked dark purple instead of black! My heart did a flip flop! Oh well, black and white is lovely too. p.s. I’d wear purple with red shoes. ?
Great outfit! The red pumps take it up a notch. And the cross necklace is gorgeous. Have a nice day ?
Love the outfit and the post!
Thanks so much, Deborah! This is a look that I love!
Great outfit, Tania. I styled a similar outfit a few weeks ago with a pink jacket. One of my favorite color combinations is black and white. Have a great day, sweetness!
Susanne, I saw that outfit! You looked fabulous in it as always!
Great post. Love the bold necklace added to the black and white. Have a great day. – Love Jill x
I love the bold necklace too, Jill. My sister thought it might be a little over the top. Lol!
