50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO ADD A KIMONO TO YOUR OUTFIT | 50 IS NOT OLDI can’t believe that I am going to say this…my daughter is leaving and going to Alaska. Those were words that I didn’t think that I would be saying again, but we all know how things can change in a moments notice. It is funny the things that we will do for money, and in this case, she is going to be working on a commercial fishing boat for the summer. Can you even imagine???
50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO ADD A KIMONO TO YOUR OUTFIT | 50 IS NOT OLDAshleigh will be the only female on the boat, which is not surprising. However, I feel a little better, knowing that her ex-boyfriend is the captain and owner of the boat. This is the same ex-boyfriend that drove across the country with her back in November, so I think that he will watch out for her. But, the momma in me has questions like, why would he want to hire her as a crew member, why would she want to go to work on a fishing boat, and are they finished as a couple? Am I crazy here, do any of the rest of you think this is strange???
50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO ADD A KIMONO TO YOUR OUTFIT | 50 IS NOT OLDMy linen outfit is an old one. I have had it for about three years, and I still wear it a lot in the summer. I love wearing linen in the summer since it cool. I wear the pants way more than I do the top, but I also like wearing them together occasionally. I bought the entire outfit at Belk’s, and the brand is New Direction.

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO ADD A KIMONO TO YOUR OUTFIT | 50 IS NOT OLDI have been enjoying my rattan earrings with tassels. I bought these at a small boutique, but I found a few similar ones, one line. See below. I added a few of the bracelets from the Randee set. The set comes with four elastic bracelets that you can wear as a set or individually. The Juniper is a lariat style necklace. It has a 27.5″ iridescent bead chain with gold teardrops. I love how the beads have different colors because of the sheen.

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO ADD A KIMONO TO YOUR OUTFIT | 50 IS NOT OLDThe kimono is what makes this outfit. This is a kimono that I bought years ago in downtown Lynchburg, Virginia. I wear this all the time and even use it to double as a swimsuit coverup. The background of the kimono happens to be the same color as my outfit, and the black tassels pop against the brown/beige outfit.

  1. Keep yourself busy. My daughter joined the Marines so I opened a franchise. You know what they say about idle minds….

    1. Exactly! I need to de-clutter my house while she is gone. That should take me the entire three months. Lol!

I LOVE love love this outfit!!! Love the addition of the belt. I have many kimono’s in different weights for all seasons !!

    1. I usually will belt this top because it is so big and flowy.

  3. Love your outfi today!! I do not comment often, but I read your blog everyday and you always look so put-together!! Best wishes to your daughter on her summer adventure!

    1. Cathy, it is good to hear from you!!!

  4. Robin Staley says:

Ok. We need the answers to those questions too. Please tell her to be careful. I love your blogs.

    1. I am sure that we will eventually get some answers, Robin. Hahaha

Tania, I would strongly advise her against that. Especially in light of the Me Too movement. Her ex boyfriend sounds like a nice guy, but he can not control the other men. Three months alone with a bunch of guys…
      Not a wise decision.
No amount of money is worth it.

      1. Christine, you don’t have to worry about that with this crew. They are all friends of hers before she left Alaska. Thanks for worrying about her though.

  5. nice Kimono . I bought one too, weather has been so dismal have not been able to wear it 🙁

Beautiful!! It looks lovely on you and I love the color against your skin tone! Wow, the black pop’s!! Great style, Tania

    1. Thanks, Susanne! You need to call me sometime. I need to catch up on your life.

  7. Your daughter is such a strong, independent woman….bravo to her! While as a parent it sure can be stressful to have our children so far away no matter their age. I admire that she and her ex can still be close friends. Good luck to her!

I really like this outfit….Love to find scarves and wraps that incorporate do many colors…so versatile!

    1. I do love kimonos and this is one of the prettiest ones I’ve seen and nicely styled. I know you will miss your daughter but this is obviously something she has to do for herself. Quite the girl who wants to spend summer on a fishing boat!
      .

      1. Janet, I love kimonos too, they are so versatile. My girl is a doozy. She will love the fishing boat while I would be miserable. Lol!

      2. Dana Buckingham says:

Maybe Andy is hoping that they can get back together. At least your daughter is coming back at the end of the summer – right?
This is a beautiful outfit, especially the kimono. But it shows up on my Kindle as light violet rather than beige. Maybe that’s one reason I like it.

        1. Yes, she is SUPPOSED to come back in September.

    2. You are right about her being strong and independent!!!

  8. Aimee Spencer says:

That is a cute outfit Tania. I almost started crying when you said your daughter is going back to Alaska. I know you will miss her. Either she & ex boyfriend are in love, or I would advise her not to go. Maybe Joe could hire her at lumberyard. Alaska is too far away and things could get scary. She is way too pretty to let some guy try to control her. She deserves Prince Charming and they will live happily ever after!

    1. You don’t have to fret, Aimee. She doesn’t let “anyone” control her. If anything, you should feel sorry for poor Andy. Lol! I am not sure about her motives, but I do know that you make dang good money for 3 months of work. So, I think that is a lot of the incentive.
