HOW TO ACCESSORIZE AN OUTFIT

Good morning from Atlanta! You are going to love the next series of photos that I post to the blog because the scenery is simply stunning. I made it to my sister’s house late Friday night just in time to have a glass of wine and then head off to bed. We had a full day planned for Saturday, so a good nights sleep was in the cards. My niece, Rachel, was participating in her first horse show of the season, and I couldn’t wait to finally get to see her ride. She has been riding since she was around 6 years old, and she loves horses and riding. Oh my word, just look at this place. This stable was one of several on the property and it was massive. The property has 4500 acres, not a small facility, and a lot of different rings for the competitions. There was a fair amount of walking involved and as you can see from the dusty boots that I am wearing. I am pretty sure that some of the people at the event now think that my sister and I were strange. I took several outfits so that I could change clothes and take lots of photographs because my sister told me how gorgeous the place was going to be. I would go into the bathroom and change clothes (I felt a lot like Clark Kent) and then we would take the pictures. I have gotten used to taking my pictures in public and people looking at me no longer freaks me out. I hope that you like all of the pictures and the outfits in the coming days. I thought that I needed to wear an outfit that was appropriate for going to a horse show, so to me, that meant casual but still stylish. I am trying to incorporate as much red as possible in my looks this month because of Valentine’s Day and also since February is Heart Health Awareness month. I wanted to show you today how you can take some basic pieces and pull together a cohesive look. The turtleneck is a ribbed type and is a medium weight. It gave me a little warmth, but on this extremely cool day in February, I could have used a thicker top or a coat.

The Burberry look-alike scarf ties the whole outfit together. It pulls the red from the top and the brown from the boots to make the outfit look like it is “put together.” What it says is that some thought was put into picking out the outfit and accessories. Speaking of accessories, I am wearing the Jo gold necklace that has a red marbled acrylic pendant. Because the Jo Necklace is not as long as I was wanting, I added the Vienna necklace which has a design that reminds me of snaffle bit on a horse. I had two of these necklaces so I gave one to my niece. The look without the scarf looks good, but it looks more cohesive with the addition of the scarf. My brown flat riding boots are a pair that I have had for years by Marc Fisher. The riding boot is one of my favorite styles, and most people can wear this look because they have a flat sole.
