HOW I’M STYLING DARK GRAY JEANS TO LOOK CHIC
I wish that I had the decorating gene. I’ve never been able to “see” what a room would look like in my mind, so when I go shopping for furniture, it is always a disaster. I can see why those Rooms To Go places work, because that is how I need to buy things. Lol!
For clothing, it comes easier for me. I just buy what I like, and then I mix and match to make it work. That doesn’t work in the decorating world. Things have to flow, fit in certain spaces and have a function. That blows my mind, and I usually end up just keeping what I have instead of even trying. I truly envy all you ladies who have beautiful homes that look like they stepped out of a magazine.
When I was in the Atlanta area visiting my sister, I imposed on her friend Kathryn to let me take some photos in her beautiful office. Obviously, she isn’t lacking in design skills! My black and gray boatneck tee looked great with the decor. Because black doesn’t photograph well, I lightened the photos so that you could see the detail on the top, so it might be darker when yours arrives.
I love the wild print, but it is the tie waistline that I love. This top creates a waistline for me, and the know draws your eye inward. All of that creates a flattering look that makes me appear thinner. I am wearing a large tee, and I think that it fits me great. There are also several other colors available in the tee, and every one of them is gorgeous.
I know the “behind” shot is always appreciated, and it gives you a better idea of the length of the tee. It is also a good idea to check out how jeans fit from the back, so this takes care of two things.
The gray California wash jeans are pull-on. It seems like I am wearing a lot of these styles of jeans lately. I am not sure if I am looking for pull-on jeans, or if retailers are showing more of them. I thought the faded gray wash of the jeans matched the print of the tee perfectly. This is a casual outfit that looks dressy and chic! I am wearing my usual size 10 in the jeans, and they fit great. The jeans come in short, regular, and tall lengths, so there is something for almost everyone.
The strappy heels keep the outfit looking dressy. These fit true to size, and I’ll link to others that I like also.
Kudos to my sister for taking my photos for me while I was in Atlanta. I dragged her to the Nordstrom sale, and she actually bought a few things. Of course, everything she bought was black, but I am working on her. If any of you have any tips or tricks on how to decorate a room, please feel free to share! I tried Pinterest, but I end up being on there for hours, and I still don’t have an idea of what I want. Right now, I am creating an office for the new house we purchased so that I have a workspace when I am there.
Kathryn is an amazing realtor in Atlanta, and I highly, highly recommend her if you are buying or selling a home. Give Kathryn a call and tell her I sent you. Believe me, you’ll be glad that you did. (Not a sponsored post. I am telling you, she’s amazing.)

Love the top, Tania! I purchased the grey raw hem jeans from Express you featured a few posts ago. I’m so pleased with them. They fit like they’re custom made! I might try to purchase this top or the black bodysuit you styled awhile ago.

My first time commenting here but not my first time reading! You always have original outfit ideas and good advice. Thanks Tania!
One approach that I have found helpful when decorating is to pick the colors that I would like to see in a room. Then I shop for a print fabric (upholstery or not) or a few key throw pillows or even a small area rug. A small picture or print works well too. It just has to be something I love. Whatever I find goes with me everywhere as I start to look at wall colors, furniture, floor coverings. Take lots of pictures too!
Print out your photos on a color printer. Then spread out all the things you have collected on the table and pour yourself a glass of wine. Arrange your room and have fun. If you can do it with clothes, you can do it with a room.
This is such a great looking outfit. I like to decorate more than put together outfits! I get decorating ideas from Instagram or from local interior designer websites. Look up the tag on IG for your decor style such as #traditionaldecor or #TraditionalSoutherndecor. Look at sites like Ballard’s or PotteryBarn who sell furniture for room ideas and copy those maybe using their products or something similar such as from Wayfair. What if you hired an interior designer who would love the exposure your blog would bring. Many designers do e-design (using Zoom) or similar. Thanks for all your ideas and recommendations on your blog for outfits!
The top is different. I love it and it looks great on you.

Funny that you mentioned Rooms to Go! When I finally HAD to replace my living room furniture, I went to Rooms to Go, Furniture Row, IKEA, etc. Every time I saw a piece of furniture I liked, I snapped a picture without worrying about what would “go with” it. Then when I got home, I looked at all the pictures and started to see trends in my choices. I was drawn to mid century modern (who knew?!), to furniture more sleek than I’d chosen in the past. Also to large geometric patterned rugs, warm wood tones, and a pop of color. A year later I LOVE my choices!
Love your blog!
Great outfit that you look so nice in! I just ordered the top in the lavender. I probably should have ordered the grey jeans as well, but I didn’t because I think I may have a pair packed away. Good luck with decorating your new home office!
I tried the link to the jeans and the tee and they didn’t work. Good luck with decorating. I found a student from a design school to help me. It was a good experience for both of us.
Love the top!
I really like the outfit on you! I think black is a harsher color to pull off when one has fair skin, and light hair. The grey is a softer balance yet dark enough to give that slimmer silhouette. Thank you for the inspiration! Have a wonderful week:)
Tanya you can hire an interior designer to come out for a consultation for a small fee per hour. I have used one before and they are very helpful.
They will make suggestions on where to place the furniture, wall hangings and other items that you already have and make suggestions according to your taste and budget.
I think Tina’s comment is the way to go. Find a rug or painting that you like and that will guide you,
I really like the gray pull on jeans, I have found that I love pull on jeans. My first pair were too big in the butt area but these look great! I may have to try these.
I have the same home decorating problem, very hard for me. I have used the free design services with Pottery Barn. They have been great.
I find when decorating a room from scratch, I start with one thing that I love, be it a rug, a painting, a wall color, or a piece furniture and then I layer from there. Another tip: don’t be in a hurry to scoop up something just to fill the space.
I learned that a professional in any field is worth it! Pick an interior designer whose work you’ve seen and relate to. They see what we don’t and create magic.
I love design. It was actually my major in college. Any of the better furniture stores, such as Ethan Allen, West Elm etc offer free design help. A designer will come to your home and help you with your needs. Good basics to start and then you can change things seasonally with pillows, art, drapery. Have fun!
