HIT OR MISS – TRAIN ENGINEER STRIPED SHIRT
Are the Hit or Miss posts one of your favorite posts? What about the This or That posts? I’m trying to stick with a theme when I can so that you know what to expect, and I can plan ahead what I need to order. Of course, there are always going to be days with exceptions, but most of the time I’m going to stick with a schedule.
When possible, my Monday posts are going to showcase affordable fashions. Tuesdays are going to be my flexible day, so I’m not sticking with a clothing theme for that day. Wednesday’s are Hit or Miss, and Thursday’s are This or That. Friday is another flexible day, while Saturdays are devoted to casual style. My Sunday posts will stay the same as always, so that day won’t change.
Maybe it is because I lived beside a railroad track for over 15 years, but this striped top reminds me of a railroad engineer. Lol! That doesn’t mean that I don’t like the top, but the print is similar to a train engineer hat. The Puff Sleeve Striped Pullover is 100% cotton and a little heavier than some of my previous spring shirts. This pullover doesn’t have any stretch to it, but the medium fits me fine.
The puff sleeves are unique because of the different stripe positions. This top is a great transition piece, and you can get a lot of wear with it. Here is the look from the back so that you can gauge the length of the top.
You might have heard me mention that I always buy myself a gift for Valentine’s Day, and tell Joe that I saved him the trouble of going shopping. This tradition started years ago when I bought myself this Coach handbag. I still love this handbag, and I carry it every spring and summer. See what great taste Joe has. Lol!!! This bag is no longer available, but I’ll see if I can round up some others for you. I’m sure that your husband’s style can be just as good. Haha!
I took these photos before I knew that these release hem jeans were not on the website. The released hem is a form of distressed jeans, but there are no holes or tears. I thought this look might be a good option for those who aren’t fond of jeans with rips. I’ll link to some others for you; these were Time and Tru, and they run TTS.
I didn’t find my platform sneakers, but I did find my Sperry Crest Vibe sneakers that I love and wear all the time. These sneakers wash up well, and I’ve had these going on three summers, so I feel like I got my money’s worth out of them. I had to size down in these shoes to an 8 1/2 instead of my usual size 9.

You look so cute in that outfit! I finally noticed that the stripes go the other way at the end of the sleeves. I like that kind of detail, but peasant blouses (raglan sleeves and gathers) don’t look good on me for some reason – probably my sloping shoulders. I like the jeans though, and I love your sneakers. I always pick up style tips from you, Tania!
Hit! I could definitely see my self in this outfit
The outfit is cute. The jeans would work for me, but not the top. I like the top, but not the shoulders and I don’t like the fact that there’s no stretch.
You look great in that outfit. Love your handbag!
Love it! Looks cool and comfy.
Love this ourfit!
Love it! Picking up the shirt soon. My Dad was an engineer on the RR all of his life. Love the stripes. 👍
It is a hit! I prefer more color but it looks great on you!
I would like it with longer pants and different shoes, only because I am short enough and I don’t want my legs to look short. You can carry this casual look much better than I.
The striped top looks good on you, but I am not sure It would look good on me. I do like the train engineer looking fabric and have a pair of jeans in that fabric.
It’s a HIT!!!
I love this outfit. It looks young and spring-y
The whole thing–top to bottom, a winner! Looks youthful and effortless.
This is the first outfit of this series that is a miss for me. I do however, like the casualness of it. It looks comfortable.
Hit! Cute outfit all around 🙂
I like the stripes; it looks like it would be a cool and comfortable top. I also love the Monday posts. I’ve been surprised at how many cute fashions you’ve modeled that are super affordable.
I like this outfit from top to bottom. Definitely my style. I also bought myself a white Coach purse several years ago. They clean up at the end of the season perfectly before you store it away till next year. Hit!
HIT…You look cute. It never crossed my mind about the engineer’s cap. It’s funny what we get in our head’s, huh? I have a chocolate colored coach bag just like yours. I’ve had mine for years as well. It still looks new.
I like it! The shirt won’t work b/c it’s too hot here most of the year (and I have a “thing” for long sleeved shirts, and then don’t wear them!) But, I’ve been trying since yesterday to convince myself not to hop in the car and go get those jeans! (slugs self, don’t need new jeans! Hot! I tell you, hot!)
I love this casual outfit!
I love this look, I love the stripes, the colour and the neck line. You look great xx
I like the top! My Dad was a train engineer for 46 yrs!
Love this top! Abe so economical. Love the blue print one also!
I like the outfit. I think it would be great with white jeans and a mule or sandals.
Love this because this top would go with jeans dressed down with sneaks or look a little nicer with white jeans and loafers or sandals.
Sadly this outfit is a miss for me.
I like your theme days for the blog.
I shy away from cotton cuz I like my clothes to have some “give” to them.
It’s a hit with me. Looks very relaxed and comfortable.
Hit! This top is super cute on you. I love vertical stripes. I have a similar top and where it a lot.
Same for me. I feel like on me it would just look schlumpy.
Great scripture verse! I absolutely love this outfit so it’s a hit for me! However, this 65 yr old likes to have some flexibility in my clothes, so I normally don’t buy items that don’t have any give. I will be very happy if you keep the current blog schedule! As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
I like the top a lot; I like the full cut and the poufy sleeves are very cute. I’m out on the hem of those jeans but I love the overall look. Thank you so much for your fun posts, and for including a verse and inspirational thought each day!
I really like the whole outfit especially the released hem jeans!
Cute, casual outfit…I’m always drawn to railroad stripes for some reason..I also love ticking stripes….I looked at the jeans at Walmart yesterday but didn’t try on…are they a crop Jean? ( what size did you get?)Maybe I’ll go try them on soon…our small Walmart is getting a make over so it seems like their clothing line has taken a hit. I enjoy ball your post. Thank you! Enjoy the day.
The outfit looks great on you. I will head to Walmart to get the shirt.
Love the outfit!
HIT
I have seen this shirt in Walmart and didn’t but because it didn’t seem to have any shape. But seeing it on you…so cute.
I really like this shirt and think it would look cute with cropped jeans too!
Two things:
1) I love that this top is from Walmart. Keep bringing us things that are cute and very affordable!
But…
2) What exactly did you mean by Hit or Miss? I thought Hit or Miss was more about wearing sometimes-controversial fashion, especially for older women. What is the controversy here?
Sorry but a miss for me. The top is too full and not flattering.
Hey Dude Shoes?
Love the shirt. Tried to buy it. Already sold out
Cute outfit, I wouldn’t change a thing! I love the Walmart Time and True line and always find great pieces. Love your page!!
Love the whole outfit, Sherry’s and all.
I have the top in white and I plan on wearing it with skinny jeans and boots, loafers or sandals. I like the blue striped top and the jeans and footwear separately, but for me they don’t seem to go together in one outfit.
Hit!
I love the style! Keeping an eye out for those jeans in white as well! I love them
Definitely a hit for me. I love stripes and the top seems to me to be very versatile. I love the Wednesday post.
I love your hit or miss posts. I agree with Patti M. A great top with a white jeans and a sweet little flip flop or hey dudes. I also love this or that. Your style is so fun.
Love this shirt!! You will see a lot of stripes in my closet. It looks so comfortable. Not so sure about the jeans but the shirt is an A plus!!
…..Have a Great Day Linda🌸🌹🌼🌺
It’s a hit!
I love the shirt and pants. I would prefer shoes and bag of a different color, perhaps red.
Cute outfit! I would prefer with white or less distressed-looking jeans.
Tania, this is a hit! Casual yet stylish. Love your fun posts.
I would wear it with white jeans or white jean skirt. I think it cute
You look great! I love the vibe of this on you. I would wear the shoes and the purse, and the cut and fit of the jeans. I am so tall that the release hem jeans look like I couldn’t find them long enough – an issue when I was younger in the days before talls – that I can’t seem to let go of, lol. The neck and shoulders of the top probly wouldn’t work on me. Thankyou so much for being our jeans goddess! I always check out the jeans you wear and have bought quite a few. And thanks for modeling Walmart and other less expensive clothing. I really appreciate your sunny personality!
Many years ago I had a similar shirt from J. Jill. I had the addition of beautiful floral embroidery, but for the silly reason that it reminded me of a train conductors shirt, I never wore it. 😩
I do love stripes though! The jeans are great, as are the sneakers and purse.
I’m a big fan of Time and Tru. Great quality for the price. Love the Coach purse and Sperry sneakers. Both are timeless. Lovely post, Tania!
That is adorable, it looks so comfortable for a casual day. I would wear it!
I am always drawn to a blue and white stripe. I was shopping with my daughter and said I was making myself NOT to buy another one. But I may have just changed my mind. LOL
Definite hit!!
It’s a hit for me; I’ve always loved a blue & white stripe and, although I’m not a fan of distressed jeans, I would wear the relaxed hem. Your Wednesday post is always fun!
Cute top! I think it would be highlighted more in some white shirts, capris, or jeans. I think it gets lost with the blue denim?? But cute!
Correction: typo….I think it would be highlighted better with white shorts, capris…etc
Love it! And the top is so affordable.
This is definitely a HIT for me! It looks like my everyday uniform!
I like the top but would have paired it with skinny jeans. Puffy on top requires thin on the bottom.
sorry…a miss for me. looks rumpled and frumpy…maybe ok to work in yard or run to hardware store.
I have seen you do better.
Love that shirt~ never wouldve thought of a train engineer haha. Really like how you style shirts that are not tunics. I have always avoided shirts that stop at the hips but these recent posts show how flattering they can be tucked strategically.
Cute casual outfit…it’s a Hit! I’m enjoying your new schedule for posts so I hope it remains in effect
Super cute outfit today!
I love the weekly format you use👍🏻
It’s a miss for me. I think you look cute in it and I like the jeans and sneakers, but the top is not something that caught my eye. Have a great day! 💓
Love the top!!! A classic! Would love to wear white jeans with it!
Love this!!! Totally something I would wear for a casual day of running errands, shopping etc!!! Love your hit or miss and especially the affordable lines you showcase. And btw, you look terrific!! That diet is showing!!!
So cute. I makes my heart reach out to spring…it is a little ways off in Wisconsin, but this is a look that I would enjoy wearing casual or a little dressed up.
I really like the shirt, both the color and the vertical stripes. Its hard to find vertical striped shirts, everything seems to be horizontal and really doesnt do my shape any favors being that is where I hold my weight. The blue color is one I reach for alot so this is a winner for me. The jeans, well I am not sold on the released hem style, but at least there are no holes!
I am not a fan of stripes or the released hem, but you look adorable in the whole outfit. I may have to rethink and give them a try. Love your posts!
Super cute casual outfit! No-iron cotton? Lol….
Love the shirt! Think it would be cute with white crop jeans and some Hey Dude shoes!!!
I really enjoy the Hit or Miss posts as well as the This or That posts.
I do like this striped shirt. I am short & large busted & I think this shirt might be flattering with the vertical stripes.
Thanks for all your posts. Even if a style might not be for me I learn quite a bit from all of your posts.
I love smart looking casual outfits like this! Total hit for me.
I like the shirt (stripes are a favorite) but the jeans are not for me. They remind me of pants that got too short as a kid and your mother let the hem out to make them last a bit longer. I am not a fan of tennis shoes either. I am in the minority here, but have never liked wearing them.
I like this outfit, I have a lot of stripes in my closet and feel comfortable with stripes rather than a floral or plaid. The top with the vneck, and slightly loose fit is a shape that would be flattering to my rectangle shaped body, and long sleeves are good for spring. I really enjoy your blog.
Cute casual day outfit. I own those sneakers and they are the cutest and so comfy.
I think the top would work dressing it up a bit for teaching or casual as you have it. A pop of color or not. It looks comfortable! A hit!
Love your outfit. Very casual and comfy looking
Sorry Tania but this is just a complete miss
Great spring/summer casual outfit! I would wear this for sure! Thank you for showing us some great options from Walmart. I don’t usually look at clothes there but I do now!
I love stripes and I like the fabric of the shirt, however that neckline doesn’t work on me. I would try it with red denim or crops. I like the white tennis shoes and handbag with it. I probably wouldn’t wear a necklace with it but some bold earrings and a cuff bracelet would be a good addition.
The prices are great. I liked the blouse in the more subtle print, but I feel like it needs a completer piece. I like the shoes in navy. The jeans are not my taste. I am short and round, so I prefer a straighter line.
HIT!! I’m not a fan of the hot but love the fit of the jeans. And girl you look great!! How much have you lost?
Love it! Perfectly easy to wear.
Love it. I truly love seeing pieces from Walmart. I’ve purchased many and I’m always pleasantly surprised at the value for the low price. More Walmart please.
It’s a total hit with me! Casual, cute, and comfortable!
I love the “railroad stripe” outfit!!!! If it had a little stretch I’d probably buy it
I actually really like the top but because it doesn’t have any give/stretch it is a no go for me. Usually I would size up but have found that the aesthetic just doesn’t carry as well.
I absolutely love that you buy your own gifts!! I do the same! If you leave the man in charge they can pick out some of the most awful gifts!!!
My favorite handbags are from Etienne Aigner. I have a couple of Coach and Michael Kors purses but I just love the Aigner! If you have a minute or two please check them out. NOPE, I have nothing to do with the company I just love them. My sister is a total Dooney & Burke person.
Honestly Gurl….You look nice in everything you wear!
Tania
This outfit is a HIT!!
This is a hit for me. Popover top & jeans! My spring weekend look to wear to little league games, errands, patio dinner @ friends, casual dinner out. I probably switch out the shoes for some outings with my Tory Burch Miller sandals just to take it up a notch, but the sneakers are good too. Practical, stylish and not fussy.
