HIT OR MISS – COLOR BLOCK STRIPES
Yay! My favorite time of the week is here!!! It is Wednesday, so that means that the week is half over, and the weekend will soon be here. AND, it also means that it is time for my Hit or Miss post. I am showing an outfit each Wednesday and asking for your input. Is the outfit a HIT, or is it a MISS? Plus, would you wear the outfit or parts of the outfit?
I have a love/hate relationship with color-block clothing. The design is beautiful to look at, but I can sometimes struggle in figuring out how to wear it in my everyday life. A lot of my issue comes from the color combinations. If the colors are easily matched with existing items in my wardrobe, then I can easily create an outfit. However, if the colors are unique, I either need to buy a coordinating item to wear with it or pick a color that will harmonize with the look.
Because of these reasons, I am putting a color-block striped shirt on the Hit or Miss post.
The great thing about this color-block striped shirt is that the colors are easy to wear. White, blue, and yellow are primary colors, so finding something to wear with this shirt will be easy. The stripe pattern is playful, and I love how the sleeves, collar, and pocket add color and interest to the shirt. The color change adds interest and a unique detail to what was an ordinary blue striped shirt.
I’m wearing a medium that fits like it is supposed to, oversized. I wanted a slightly more fitted look, so I tied the shirt at the waist. From this photo, you can see the length of the shirt in the back.
Adding this Navy Doubled Breasted Trench to the outfit gave it contrast and grounded the look. A third piece or a completer piece adds dimension and makes your outfit look finished, put together, and polished. This trench is also practical and is perfect for adding warmth to any spring outfit. I’m wearing a size 10, and the fit is perfect.
The Ivory Coach Shoulder Bag is a great neutral. It is a smaller handbag than what I usually like, so I ordered this Pebbled Leather Shoulder Bag instead to try. I can’t wait to get the Pebbled Leather one in, its looks like a great size that will hold all of my stuff. The smaller bag will hold my essentials, but not a lot more.
These bootcut raw hem jeans, however, are too big for me. I’m struggling to order the size I need since I’ve lost weight. I’ve always erred on something fitting too big as too small. I can still style an item that is too big, but if something is too little, it is hard to take a photo of it, especially if it won’t even go over my hips, which has happened before. Lol!
I loved the soft denim, and the color is perfect for spring and summer. The raw hem is something that I like, so this is another draw for me. Because I like these jeans so much, and because they are now on sale for 25% off, I ordered myself a size down, and these are going back. I’m wearing a 10 in these photos, and I have an 8 on order.
I’m wearing a pair of Vince Camuto Platform Sandals with this look since the jeans have a 33″ inseam. Bootcut and flare jeans tend to be longer, so a heel is called for. These beige leather sandals are on-trend, and you can wear them with a lot of your spring and summer outfits. The platform is 1.5″ tall, and they have a 3.5″ block heel.
Last week’s Hit or Miss was this gorgeous maxi dress. I know many of you loved the dress, but it was all sold out. It is now back in stock in all sizes. The wrap helps to camouflage the stomach area, which is where I hold most of my weight. Plus, the way the dress drapes and ties to one side helps create curves that I desperately need since I’m built like a ruler. I also ordered the gray version since I love this one so much and since it is under $40! I’m wearing a size large.
Here is how you order:
Now, it is time for your input…Hit or Miss? What do you like about the outfit, and what would you change?

I have a love/hate relationship with color block and one piece, you really like, is all you need. I would like the outfit more if you rolled up the sleeves since the outfit is casual. Your style is so fashionable!!!!
Wow, just as I was thinking “I have a love/hate relationship with color block,”, your next line said exactly that! 😀 You look great in this shirt and those jeans (though yes, I can see they’re a bit big on you), but I don’t think the navy jacket works. I think in order for the color block not to look too busy/messy, the coat/jacket/sweater/whatever would work best if it were in one of the colors in the shirt. Oh–I was going to say big hoop earrings would look pretty cute with this outfit, too–then I noticed that’s exactly what you have on! We’re thinking alike today, I guess!.
This is a miss for me. It washes you out. Love the trench! Everything else is meh.
It’s a miss outfit for me. I don’t like the yellow part of the shirt. I love the style of the shirt and would prefer it in all blue & white stripes.
The pants, no. Don’t like how long they are and prefer a slimmer fit.
I’m not a fan of color block. I do like blue and yellow, but not together. A full blue or full yellow shirt is more to my liking. I do like the outfit as a whole though. Love the shoes. 💗
Love the color block shirt.
You are darling in anything, but if I were to tweak the outfit, I might try the sleeves rolled up with cute bangles. Though wide leg jeans are having a moment, I might like skinny or straight leg jeans with a loafer.
Again, your adorable! And I’m loving your blog. ♥️
I usually do not like color blocked items, as they are too”blocked”. I love this shirt as the blocking is subtle, This outfit is a hit, though I’d prefer jeans with finished hems.
I have always loved stripes! I love the shirt and the pants. Would not wear the jacket. Purse and shoes look great too
I would wear the shirt in a heartbeat!
Tania pretty sure you could wear a rag and look great but this isn’t my favorite look, maybe it’s because the shirt with the long sleeves and breast pocket look a little overwhelming on you, with the third piece it looks better to my eye. I’m also just not a fan of flared jeans and platform shoes that thick. Maybe it’s the light wash of the jeans throwing things off too. So while not a complete miss, not a total hit either.
I am not a fan of the color block with patterns, but I like the pants and shoes.
Complete miss for me. Colors in the shirt are too light for my taste; also dislike a pocket over my breast. I dislike frayed pants and despise long pants that drag or cover shoes which yours tend to do frequently.
I think the whole outfit looks great on you. The pastel colors look great on you, but I need more vivid colors as a winter. I have purchased a few of the flare jeans and think we will all adjust in time. I also like the platform sandals. It’s a hit for you, 2/3 of a hit for me😊
Not crazy about this look but I do love the shoes. However, I loved the dress from last week so much that I ordered it right away! Looks great on me and I can’t wait to wear it!
I like the pieces separately, except the jacket, which just seem to not go with the overall look. I guess I’m not a fan of boot cut jeans ever since skinny and straight styles came on the scene, which you look great in no matter what you wear them with. So, the outfit is a miss for me.
I’m not a big fan of color block garments in general and definitely not a fan of boob pockets especially when they stand out like this one so this shirt is a Miss for me.
Love the whole outfit!
I love the shirt. I love that color combination. I am not a fan of frayed jeans, but the color is nice with the shirt. Reading other comments here, I think I must be in the minority, but I would say it is a hit.
It’s a miss for me. I don’t care for the top although I am grateful that the color block style from the 80’s? Is not the kind that’s being repeated today. I agree with the other poster that the top would be better suited to white jeans or bottoms. The jeans look nice on you.
I love both the shirt and the jeans-just not together. I would buy both. I think the colors of the shirt are perfect with your hair color and complexion. I think when you start sizing down the clothing choices will look trimmer. It’s a hit for me.
I love the outfit on you as it looks very polished and
put together. I would happily purchase any of the items except for the blouse. Not a big fan of color blocking personally.
Nope. Too busy for me. I’m not a fan of the raw hem with flared jeans either. Not sure why because I like it with straight legged jeans.
I’m not a fan of color block so didn’t think I was going to like this outfit, but it turned out to be a big Hit for me. Loved the subtle colors of the shirt with the contrast of the navy jacket.
Love your outfit, although I wouldn’t buy the shirt. I would love to see you in the same outfit with the smaller jeans just to show the difference. By the way, you look fantastic!
For me, the top is a MISS because it isn’t something I would wear. I do like how you tied it in the front and the outfit you created.

Hope that helps.
Not sure about the shirt. I probably wouldn’t buy it. However, a while back you showed us a tanning mitt from Amazon..I bought it and love it!!
Definitely a HIT! You look fantastic, Tania. The shirt has a classic vibe with a little bit of fun thrown in. I’m usually not a fan of distressed jeans. But this raw hem looks modern and fresh!
Tania, I love the outfit because to me it is casual, classy and looks great on you. For me I am not sure about the shirt but it still looks amazing on you.
I think it’s a cute look. I like the wash of the jeans. I have a striped color block shirt on my Free People wish list right now–the colors are blues/teals… My only hesitation is the topper looks a little formal for the jeans.
I love this shirt. Reminds me of one I had in 90’s.
I also would love this shirt opened with a white tee under it.
I definitely would love to own this shirt.
Sorry but most of this is a miss for me. The colorblock shirt is ok but might be more appealing if partnered with white capri’s or jeans. Not a fan of the frayed edge jeans, looks sloppy to me. I bought a pair and just can’t make myself wear them. Guess that’s my age showing. :). I do like the trench coat pulling the outfit together.
Love the shirt and the jeans. I also loved the dress from last weekly, but sadly I’m petite so I can’t order the jeans or the dress…. Need more options for petites.
Sorry but the shirt looks like 1990 called and wants their shirt back. And the jeans are just sloppy looking. Maybe because of the large size. I do love the trench. Not a very flattering outfit
Love the shirt! I have one similar for this Spring.
HIT
Sorry! Not your best look. Jeans look to big and the shirt washes out your complexion.
Is there a way to scroll and read more comments? I only see three.
The shirt is cute, but the jeans look kinda sloppy. I don’t like the look of flare jeans.
Hit. Love the small town look. Why do I call it that cause during fair week her in my small town you will see a lot of this dress style except we are wearing our western boots
The shirt looks cute on you, but this color block is a miss for me. Usually color block is a miss for me for the same reasons as you stated. Love the jeans and raincoat and the purse. Love your blog!
I have a color block shirt that is almost just like yours. I love wearing it with white jeans and either white adidas Stan Smith tennis shoes or silver flats and tote.
For me the color block shirt is a hit! The softer colors are great.
Hi Tania!!! I absolutely love your blog!! You are beautiful and classy in everything you wear!! In February you did a repurposed blog and it was a beige and white tank/ cardi dress from Walmart ( I ordered!)with a pearl statement necklace (the next day with the same cardigan and white pants )that was out of stock. Can you please let me know if the store you got it from restocks the necklace?! Thank you so much for all you do!! You make my shopping easier for me!!And ending your blog with scripture is my favorite!! 💕Kelley Hurst ( kelleyhurst2@gmail.com)THANK YOU!!!!
That’s a miss for me for two reasons: I’m so short waisted that the blocks end up in weird places— lol— and something about that particular shirt already looks faded out to me, as if it was washed one too many times. You look great as always!
Sorry, but the shirt and shoes would be a Miss for me. The jeans are a Hit. I weird out on patchwork, and the multiple patterns in/on the shirt would confuse my brain, if it was a solid color, or all the stripes were the same it would be a Hit. The shoes, I personally don’t do platforms, bad /weak ankles would cause lots of issues. After writing that, if the shoes had a regular sole (one that flexes) I would wear them, with up to a 4 inch heel, yeah, strange I cannot wear a platform, but can walk with confidence in 4 inch heels. Loving the outfits you post.
Cute oversized shirt. Cute frayed hem bell jeans too. The oversized shirt would look great with slim fit ankle jeans. Two oversized pieces seem to want to “compete”.
This outfit is a hit for me! I just bought a striped colorblock shirt from Vineyard Vines. The stripes are horizontal, lavender and mint green. I also have raw hemmed boot cut jeans and a trench coat. My only tweak is a lower heel on my sandals.
There is double information on shirt, but none on the double breasted navy coat.
Sorry, Cindy, I inserted the wrong link. Here is the correct one: https://rstyle.me/+nQAS45adirpDRrYUjtoDiw
Definite miss with the shirt. Everything else is on point. You’re tiny and the shirt was just too big on you.
I love the color block shirt! I immediately went to site to investigate, and was so underwhelmed at their presentation. You should model it, they’d sell more! Thanks!
It’s another hit for me! I have a hard time styling over- sized shirts bc they tend to look like tents on me, so I like the front tie idea! Cute & casual…I like it!
LOVE the shirt!
I like everything except the shirt. It looks cute on you, but I would want the shirt to be just blue & white stripe only. It’s that minimalist in me. 😊
