God Is Good At Being God
I’ve recently been listening to Lysa TerKeurst’s sermons on YouTube. Out of the clear blue, a video of her speaking at a Passion conference popped up. I don’t believe in coincidences, so I clicked on it, curious about what God wanted to show me. Lysa is an amazing speaker, and her words always seem to resonate deeply.
But this time, it was something so simple that it kept replaying in my mind. She mentioned a prayer she said every morning during a difficult season in her life.
She said, “God is GOOD, God is good to ME, and God is good at being GOD!”
I remember thinking, “Really? That’s how you start your day?” It seemed so basic, so obvious. But God kept bringing her sermons across my path, and every time, she repeated that same prayer.
The prayer started echoing in my mind long after I had turned off YouTube. I couldn’t shake it, and I knew the Holy Spirit was nudging me. But why? What was so special about those words?
God Is GOOD
This part seemed obvious. Of course, God is good. The Bible is filled with verses that affirm His goodness.
1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV) – 34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Psalm 145:9 (NIV) – 9 The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.
Mark 10:18 (NIV) – 18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
I’ve never doubted that God is good. His goodness is woven into the very fabric of His nature. And His goodness is something we are constantly reminded of throughout His Word.
God Is Good to ME
This one also made sense. I’ve seen His goodness over and over again in my life. Despite my flaws and failures, He continues to pour out His mercy and blessings.
Whether it’s a beautiful sunrise, a heartfelt apology, a problem that suddenly resolves, or just the peace that settles over me when I read His Word, I know God is good to me.
I think we often forget to acknowledge His goodness when life gets hard. We focus on what we lack or what’s going wrong, and we forget to see how much He has already done.
God Is Good at Being God
This was the part that puzzled me. Of course, God is good at being God. After all, He created the universe. He knows all things. He is the Alpha and the Omega. Why would Lysa emphasize this part of the prayer?
Then, I remembered a scene from the movie “Bruce Almighty.” If you’ve seen it, you know the one. Bruce, frustrated with his life, complains to God about how things are going. So God (played by Morgan Freeman) decides to let Bruce handle things for a while to teach him a lesson.
Bruce is soon overwhelmed by the sheer volume of prayers coming in from people all over the world. His solution? Hit “Select All” and answer “YES” to every prayer.
What happens? Absolute mayhem. The world is thrown into chaos because Bruce, despite his good intentions, doesn’t have the wisdom, perspective, or understanding to handle the prayers correctly.
The movie is a silly comedy, but it illustrates something profound. God sees what we don’t see. He knows what we don’t know. And His ways are far above ours.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Trusting God to Be God
How many times do I try to step in and “help” God with His plans? How many times do I question what He’s doing because I don’t understand?
Lysa’s prayer made me realize that acknowledging “God is good at being God” means releasing control. It means trusting Him even when His answers don’t make sense to me.
It means that when my prayers go unanswered, He has a reason. It means that when things aren’t happening as quickly as I’d like, He’s working in the waiting. And it means that even when life feels completely out of control, He’s still on the throne, doing what only He can do.
It’s a daily decision to trust His goodness, His timing, and His purpose. Because God truly is good at being God. And I don’t need to understand everything to trust Him with everything.
To GOD Goes The Glory!
Have a Blessed Day
Let’s End with a Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being GOOD. Thank You for being good to me, even when I am undeserving of Your mercy and blessings. And thank You for being so good at being God. Your wisdom, love, and power are beyond anything I could ever comprehend.
Help me to trust You fully, especially when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Teach me to rest in Your goodness, knowing You are always working for my good, even when I can’t see it. Remind me daily that Your plans are far greater than mine and that Your ways are always perfect.
Lord, help me to release control, to lay down my worries, and to trust You to be God over my life. Let me walk in faith, knowing You are always good and always in control.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
When I read this, I can feel GOD in every word! It is so true!!! I just need to LET GO and hold on to GODS hand!!!! Instead of my own

Thank you for sharing that Tania. I have been struggling with a problem for quite some time and I will start my day with that prayer and try to do a better job of giving it to God!
