GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER

I got a good laugh today. My sister (noted children’s author, see her book the on sideline) goes to a Social Media Conference every year in San Diego. I went with her a couple of years ago (see here) and it was filled with lots of information. I learned a ton about blogging, and all of the different social media sites that are available. She got an email today giving her the name of a website that she could put in a name of a person or a blog, and then you could get the statistics on the person. Guess whose name she put in???50 IS NOT OLD | GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER | FASHION OVER 40 She messaged me with a ton of graphs and information which I had no idea how to read. I asked her what the heck did all of that mean, and she told me that I have reached a level that I am considered an influencer. That strikes me as flipping hilarious. Obviously, the fact that I have had a pet skunk as a child, the fact that my writing skills are subpar at best, the fact that most of my photos have been taken with a tripod and a timer, I am not a size 2 or 4, or the fact that I talk about my husband and our crazy life is exactly what people want to be influenced about. Lol! Hopefully, I can be an influencer when it comes to being real, honest, kind, and inspirational. Buying a clothing item because of my recommendation is fine, but hopefully, you get more out of my blog than that. I think I will start using the hashtag, #inspirationalinfluencer from now on. What do you think?50 IS NOT OLD | GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER | FASHION OVER 40 I love black and white together, I think that it looks so crisp! I have often told you that you don’t have to pay a fortune to look like you did. This top and jacket are prime examples of clothing that were affordable, but that looks expensive. I found this cute crewneck sweater tank while I was visiting my sister in the Atlanta area and the jacket was a purchase from the same brand store but bought at a different time. The store??? Target. I like the sleeveless design of the sweater since I can wear it under a jacket or cardigan without having the buck of sleeves. Plus, warmer weather is coming soon (I promise) and this top is lightweight enough to be worn with shorts. In case you are wondering, I am wearing a size large. Here is the link to the sweater, and btw, it is under 15.00!
50 IS NOT OLD | GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER | FASHION OVER 40I added the Jeanette ball earrings to my look. The earrings say that they are navy and white, but I honestly couldn’t tell the difference, they looked black to me. Lol! They are a 4″ drop, and they are a statement piece without being too big. These are also lightweight, so you don’t have to worry about them hurting your ears. I have had this necklace for a while, even though I rarely wear it. I looked high and low trying to find it to wear with this outfit because I could remember that it had the striped leather drop and a red bead. I knew it would tie the entire outfit together, and I think that it did a great job. The problem is that it is no longer on the website. UGH! I hate it when my jewelry or a clothing item that I am wearing is sold out. It really ticks me off. Lol!
50 IS NOT OLD | GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER | FASHION OVER 40The Madewell Emmett crop wide leg pants are a large pop of color in this otherwise black and white look. I wasn’t sure if I would like the Americana Red, but I actually do like them very much. This style leg is still in the “growing on me” phase, but I am willing to give it a try. I ordered my normal size 10 and this fits me fine. The pants also come in black or a pale gray if you are not ready to wear the bold red pair. This pair of pants are 98% cotton and has 2% elastane which gives it a small amount of stretch. That would make the pants easy to wear for work or for a weekend getaway. Here is the link for the pants if you are interested in them.

50 IS NOT OLD | GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER | FASHION OVER 40The black linen jacket is a few years old. I bought it on my first trip to Rosemary Beach in 2017 when we went to Target for a few supplies. I let the others get the supplies, and I took off to go shopping. Lol! I also found a black and white dress on that excursion (here) that was beautiful and I plan on taking it on my upcoming trip in April to Los Cabo.

50 IS NOT OLD | GETTING READY FOR SPRING WEATHER | FASHION OVER 40I loved hearing some feedback from you gurls about the photos. It was interesting to me that what I was viewing as amateurish and unprofessional, some of you were viewing as quaint and authentic. When I have my next photo shoot, I will mention that you want more closeups of the clothing, etc. She has been used to taking photos for people to put on their walls, not blog type photos. We may have an adjustment period until we come to an understanding. Plus, it is going to take me some time to get used to someone taking my photos. At the house, I just use a tripod and put my camera on a timer. I am comfortable in front of the camera with me, but not so much when others take my photos. I am going to give this a couple of sessions before I decide what I am going to do. I bet that I end up doing a little of both, some on the porch, and some on location. The best of both worlds, right? Lol!

  1. I absolutely love your style but wide leg pants are not flattering on anyone. That is one trend that is so unattractive no matter how stylish the person. It’s the pants, not you because you are a lovely lady.

  2. I talk about your blog all the time. You are the only reason I go into Cato. Your clothes are affordable and on track. Love your family stories. I have given up,on bloggers who buy clothes I can not afford or seem to frumpy. You are number one for me…Thanks!

  3. I enjoy your blog…I find you genuine and relatable, plus you and I wear the same size! Nice to get fashion tips from someone who isn’t a size 2. I love the red pants, but the jury is still out on the new wide crop leg style. I feel kinda like the other girl, Casey, they seem like “highwaters” LOL. Keep up the great work.

The statistics don’t lie. I totally look forward to your blog daily!
I absolutely love the red pants and length. They look great on you and the color is fun and flattering.

  5. I love this outfit!! And you are pulling off those pants like a pro!! I see the catwalk in your future!! Btw-you are an influencer-look how you influenced me!!!

  6. Charlcy L. Green says:

I agree, I love the photos at your home! Seeing your dog, grandkids, patio, trees and the creek are so much a part of us all loving you and wanting to share in your life! But the professional photos in fun locations are beautiful too! Those crop pants are reminiscent of our fornmer coulottes and you rock them! Cute outfit.

  7. Tania I love that your a regular gal likenme. you love Jesus, you have good style and your husband is a hoot. you have helped me get dressed for work many times. i like the idea of this outfit but i not sure about the pants. i like the tank but its sold out already.

  9. You truly are an influencer in the very best way! I’ve had some really tough days lately, but I read your blog every day and it puts a smile on my face. On Sundays, I love the Word you bring. Keep it up girl! Thank you!

I am excited for you on your blog rating! I love getting my daily email from you. I love that you seem so genuine about your thoughts. I also have to say that as a size 10 or 12 women myself i am following you because of your size. I have looked at other blogs of size small women and their ideas mostly don’t work for my body type. Even if the blogger is a great person. I am so impressed with how you put together outfits. I get great ideas from you. I love laughing at your stories. And being challenged to get out of my comfort zone. I also love your infusion of Jesus. Oh and hearing about your grandkids.

  11. Robin Staley says:

You always look nice. But, I don’t think this cropped looks good on me. I’m only 5 foot tall and I look awful in anything cropped.

  12. Tania, first off, you’re just an all-around great gal! Your honesty and goodness shines through, and you obviously have a super sense of style!!! Love following you and starting my day on a happy note. As for those pants, ehh, not sure about those for me personally. I would feel like I had on “highwaters” and feel weird. I wear capri length a lot and have no problem. I won’t say never on those crop styles, but I’d have to find a pair that was something special, LOL!

  13. I agree. We love you because you are real, authentic, and relateable. You show fashion that is attainable by the more mature woman.

  14. I’m not a fan of the trousers. I feel like they add width and aren’t as flattering as your other slack choices. I’m a huge red fan so it was hard for me to admit I didn’t care for them. Your a rockin lady and should stick to slimmer slacks!

  15. Tania,
You are just what we need!! Our closet’s thank you for your input on style and color!! We love to hear about your family and your advice, kindness and sincerity shine through, making us smile. Keep up the good work!!

  16. It doesn’t matter what “they” say. You are an inspiration to at least me, if not hundreds of others I’m sure, a sweet lady, funny and fashionable. That’s what it’s about.

Love the outfit, not sure if I can wear those pants though! By the way, what brand of self tanner do you use?

    Have a great day!

    1. Thanks, Liz! I haven’t started using the self-tanners yet, but it is getting time. I use R+F’s in early spring. It is an easy to use (even for beginners) foaming tanner that is very subtle. I also use one called Sun once I start getting a small amount of tan in the summer because it is darker than the one from R+F. I don’t like to start with Sun because I don’t want people to see me one day white and the next day all dark. Lol!

  17. You are an influencer because of all the attributes you mentioned but mostly because you are real and we can relate. And of course your sense of style and colour. ? I’m generally not into the pants but bought a similar style a couple of years ago that are flattering, I think because the material is soft and slimming and not to voluminous so never say never!

    1. This pair is not soft and flowy, they are more constructed. I am still experimenting with the look, and I haven’t made my decision on the style just yet.

    2. Deborah Broughton says:

I really enjoy your posts find great ideas, some times I go buy exactly what you feature. Love your Sunday inspiring posts but most of all because you seem to be a real person! Rare and enjoyable.

  18. Love the pop of red Tania yes I’m undecided on that style trousers I got a lovely blush pair but the hubby put me off and I gave them away ? I liked them I might just have to give them another go and I love your photos in the porch ?

    1. That makes two of us who are undecided about this style, Bernie.
