FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE

I had a reader comment on an old blog post that I did when I first started blogging. I went back and re-read the post and I have decided to share some of it with you today.

What do you see in the mirror? Are you your worst critic? I know that when I look in the mirror, I am always picking out my flaws. Why do we do this? Do men do this, too? It all starts in the morning when I am putting on my makeup. I use one of the 5X magnification mirrors to apply all my makeup, and that really, really, shows everything. Your pores look huge in those things! There is not a wrinkle, or fine line, that won’t show up. After that wonderful experience, I move on to the changing my clothes phase, in front of two huge mirrors in the bathroom. I have tried to put my clothes on with the lights turned off, but I couldn’t find my things. Haha! There is just nothing good that is going to come from standing in front of a mirror in your bra and panties. NOTHING!

But why do we feel this way? I read a story once about this lady. She is quite famous in some circles, but I am not going to mention her name. She talks about how she was never considered a beauty. She said she is short in stature, large in girth has frizzy unruly hair, and just overall not a classical beauty type. (Her inside is pure gold) One day, she was having makeup applied, and the makeup artist commented that this woman had perfect lips. She was thrilled because she now had something of a physical nature that made her proud. She said from that moment on, she always thought about her perfect lips as she applied her lipstick.

We all have something that makes us unique and special. Do we even take the time to acknowledge this? Genesis 1:27, says,

 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
    male and female he created them.

We are created in His image! That has to be “perfect!” I would never look upon the Lord and say, “not bad, ” “just okay,” or “could be better.”

In Psalms 139:14 we are told,

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.

Your homework for the day is to look at yourself and see your best asset. Acknowledge it and say it out loud because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Every part of us was thought out and hand crafted by our Lord. I don’t think I will ever look upon my body (inside and out) quite the same. Then take the time today to look at a loved one or friend and let them know something about them that you love or admire. I am sure it will make their day and probably yours also.

I am grateful, I am thankful, I am blessed.

  1. Thank you for those wise words. When I am content and thankful rather than complaining and judgmental I feel better inside and it shows in my outward appearance. God is good!

    This really blessed me today as I sit here, still alone, contemplating my retirement taking place in a so unexpected way and always wondering why I have not been blessed with someone to love. Is it my weight, or my laugh, or my… So thank you for the reminder that “God don’t make junk” and that I am fearfully and wonderfully made! Love ya girl!

  6. Thank you for this post. I feel that as women we all seem to compare ourselves to other women. I think it’s in our DNA. The older I get the less I do it. What I have realized is the most beautiful women are the ones that have a smile on their face no matter their age!

  7. Thank you so much for today’s post. We’re all beautiful in God’s eyes! I need to remember that more often.

  8. Thank you for such a wonderful message. God bless you and all the women who follow you?

  9. Tania, your words are VERY timely! As I was waiting for your blog to load on my iPad, I noticed my reflection on the screen and I saw the lines and wrinkles on my lower face! Where did they come from?!? I usually only notice the wrinkles around my face and mouth! I was thinking that I wish I looked ten years younger. And then I read your post! Your words once again spoke to me! Thank you for the beautiful message? Have a great Sunday!

    Tania…thank you so much for this beautiful post! I pick my self apart on a daily basis…I have lost 75# but still see the fat lady in the mirror even though I know I am now thin in the size of my clothes…and when someone says something nice to me I always tell my flaws instead of being thankful…I am going to try harder to be thankful and grateful of the beautiful life I have at the age of 65!!!!!
