FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
What do you see in the mirror? Are you your worst critic? I know that when I look in the mirror, I am always picking out my flaws. Why do we do this? Do men do this, too? It all starts in the morning when I am putting on my makeup. I use one of the 5X magnification mirrors to apply all my makeup, and that really, really, shows everything. Your pores look huge in those things! There is not a wrinkle, or fine line, that won’t show up. After that wonderful experience, I move on to the changing my clothes phase, in front of two huge mirrors in the bathroom. I have tried to put my clothes on with the lights turned off, but I couldn’t find my things. Haha! There is just nothing good that is going to come from standing in front of a mirror in your bra and panties. NOTHING!
But why do we feel this way? I read a story once about this lady. She is quite famous in some circles, but I am not going to mention her name. She talks about how she was never considered a beauty. She said she is short in stature, large in girth has frizzy unruly hair, and just overall not a classical beauty type. (Her inside is pure gold) One day, she was having makeup applied, and the makeup artist commented that this woman had perfect lips. She was thrilled because she now had something of a physical nature that made her proud. She said from that moment on, she always thought about her perfect lips as she applied her lipstick.
We all have something that makes us unique and special. Do we even take the time to acknowledge this? Genesis 1:27, says,
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
We are created in His image! That has to be “perfect!” I would never look upon the Lord and say, “not bad, ” “just okay,” or “could be better.”
In Psalms 139:14 we are told,
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Your homework for the day is to look at yourself and see your best asset. Acknowledge it and say it out loud because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Every part of us was thought out and hand crafted by our Lord. I don’t think I will ever look upon my body (inside and out) quite the same. Then take the time today to look at a loved one or friend and let them know something about them that you love or admire. I am sure it will make their day and probably yours also.
I am grateful, I am thankful, I am blessed.
Love this and definitely needed to hear it. I am fearfully and wonderfully made! Thank you Lord.
Thank you so much for this post – I needed that reminder that indeed God made me the way I am and that I need to stop picking his work apart. I love your style and it’s just what I need at this point in my life.
A beautiful message we ALL need to be reminded of from time to time. I think women are so guilty of comparing themselves to other women. “Her legs are so long and pretty.” “I would love to have her hair.” “It’s not fair she can eat anything she wants and not gain an ounce.” If God made us all alike….how boring would THAT have been!!?? Ha Have a blessed day Tania!
We are part of a society that strives for perfection – magazines show these over-retouched 70 year olds with no wrinkles and a 30″ waist and make everyone feel inadequate and sad by comparison. We are also becoming in contrast accepting of the unhealthy and medically dangerous to be politically correct. Our bodies are our temples and we should take care of them in every way. They work, they allow us to bring new life to this world and service us every day. Let’s appreciate the beauty in that, treat them well and not abuse them or take them for granted and we honor our maker and thank him for his gift that way. Thank you Tania!
Thank you for this message. I always enjoy your Sunday posts.
Beautifully written Tania!!! I will remember this when I look in the mirror and pass it on to others. Thank you for this reminder. ~Lisa~
Yes, we are perfect just the way we are. We are made in God’s image. I am fearful for our young people, there is way to much pressure on them from social media, bad news and the quest for beauty, success, media exposure and peer expectations. I hope my own daughters and young people learn to be discerning, accept disappointments, keep a sense of humour, develop resilience and value themselves and respect others. Life as we know, is not always smooth sailing, we need to let people know that they have endearing qualities, lovely unique personalities and that they are valued and respected. Thank you for your thoughtful posts Tania!
Thank you so much for this message. Psalm 139 is my favorite chapter, and I am sure that I will look different at myself
great thought – you always have such genuine messages – thank you
Thank you so much for this post Tania. I just started following you a couple of weeks ago. I could have said this is me every morning when I am getting ready for the day. Now I will think of your words and and be grateful!
