50 IS NOT OLD | CLIMBING YOUR MOUNTAIN I never know from day to day what I will talk about on any of my posts. I take random and small snippets from my day and talk about it in some way. My Sunday posts are no different but I feel a little more pressure on them. I don’t want to just talk about the weather or what Joe has said or done, I want to talk about the Lord and leave you with some sort of inspiration that I hope you will take with you for the rest of the week.

As I put my makeup on every day I listen to a daily training call. These calls are meant to apply to my Rodan + Fields business but they are also inspirational in nature and often talk about the Lord, including Bible verses. That is exactly what my call was that I listened to on Friday. It was on climbing a mountain and while I understood how she was applying it to her business, I kept thinking about how it applied to life.

This lady was talking about her experience that she had when she went to Canada and her and her husband decided to hike a mountain because they had heard that the view at the top was worth the climb. She and her husband started off on a 5 to 6-hour hike up the mountain and it didn’t take very long before she was regretting her choice. She wanted to quit and turn around because she didn’t think she could do it. This was the scenario for the entire hike, every 30 minutes or so she would almost be in tears saying that there was no way that she could complete this task, it was just too hard.

She started praying to the Lord to give her strength, to guide her. Her husband would go ahead a ways and tell her that she could do it, just one more step. People who were coming back down the mountain would tell her about the amazing view and how it was so worth all of the struggle that she was going through and it just to keep on going.

So, with her eyes set firmly on the goal, with prayers running through her mind, holding onto the Lord for strength, she would take one more step. When she reached the top the feeling was incredible, the view was amazing, and she thanked the Lord for putting the obstacle in front of her so that she could appreciate everything so much more.

We all have mountains in our life. It might not be an actual mountain but the obstacle can still be just as challenging. Getting a diagnosis of a disease can feel insurmountable. Being in debt up to our ears can feel overwhelming. Losing a loved one can feel like you can’t breathe. Going through a divorce can feel like a part of you has been taken from you. There are so many mountains that we face daily but we need to follow the path before us.

Isaiah 41:10 says: Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Psalm 18:2 says: The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Joshua 1:9 says: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

On the way down the mountain, the lady was able to cheer those who were now on the same journey that she was on. You never know why you are having to go through something. Why is usually the first question asked. Why me, why them, why is this happening? We may never know the answer to that but maybe it is to help someone else later on who is going through the same thing. Maybe the Lord is using your struggle to be a blessing down the road for someone else.

Thank the Lord for your obstacles as they allow you to grow as a person. Call out to the Lord for help, He is there with you along the way. Pray for guidance and strength, He is your lifeline. And, reach out to anyone you see that is having a hard time, that could be your answer to “why.”

Conquer your mountain. Keep your eye on the goal. Enjoy the view when you get there.

I started following your blogs simply because I absolutely love your hair cut (I take your picture to stylist after stylist, but I have no idea why they can’t get it right!), I love your style, and you help me to believe that if 50 is not old, then 60 can’t be that old either! I have enjoyed every single one of your posts, but, you have no idea how this particular post has touched my heart! Last week I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and to say that I am overwhelmed is an understatement! I am not sure why you decided to post this particular blog today, but at this moment, I am standing at the very base of that mountain looking up and feeling scared to death, thinking absurd thoughts like, “I’m 65 years old. Do I even bother fighting this thing?” And then, there you are popping up in my email with this post! Your post today, young lady, has given me the strength and courage to start thinking positive and to definitely work to fight this monster inside me, because 65 is not old either, and I have so much more I want to do! I sincerely thank you for that!

    1. Marilyn, I have no words. I just can’t imagine how worried, scared, and overwhelmed you are at this time. I know the Lord put this topic in my path for a reason, this was no coincidence. I never expected to be talking about the Lord or my faith when I started this blog but I am so happy that the Lord had other plans. I hope this gives you the courage and strength that you will need in the coming months. My friend, Patti, also recently went through the breast cancer scare and she started a blog. You might want to check her out and see if you can find some of her experiences helpful. To Christ be the glory!

Good beautiful morning, your a dear. Thank you so much for this encouraging story today. I’m sure I’m not the only one who need a boost of love from Jesus himself through the heart of a sister friend like you. ? Our mountain we re climbing right now is filled with my aging dear parents, we are there caregivers I work, my sweet husband is retired , and our eldest amazing son is fighting panchratic cancer, it’s now stage four, but he’s still fighting to have as much time with his 10 yr, old son.jack, we call him grinner, he’s always been a happy go lucky kinda kiddo. He’s hurting deeply . Gods hand is upon him so. Thankful for so much that is our LORD and is always good. Our son was saved and baptized last October before we were told about the cancer the following December . Praising our God for his preparation for our sons journey. So sweetie , keep doing what Jesus has called upon your heart to give and share with so many. Thank you Jesus for a new sister in you. Bless her , strengthen her, protect her in all ways , in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our king. Amen. Love to ya girlfriend. ?????

    1. Teri, I cannot imagine your pain. I too am thankful that your son was saved and that he is a fighter. I never imagined what the Lord was doing when He put this topic in my path, but after reading some of the comments, I am beginning to understand. Hold onto to the Lord with all your might and continue to praise His name. I will be praying for you.

Thank you for that message… my two beautiful daughters found my 33 year old son dead a week ago. I’m devastated and need so much prayer.

    1. So sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family.

    2. Elizabeth, I am so sorry. Words can not even begin to express that. This took my breath. I will pray for you and your family. Check out my friend, Cindy’s blog who lost her son almost a year ago. It might help you to read with someone who has experienced the same pain and suffering.

  9. The devotion was for me today. Thank you for being faithful to share His words.

  10. Thank you Tania, mission accomplished, I always look to your Sunday’s posts to set the stage for the week. I am only just beginning my journey in bible study and seem to be drawn to Isaiah 40-41.

    1. Isaiah 40-41 is such a powerful few chapters. I can see why you would be drawn to them.
