50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40If you are not a weekly subscriber to my Saturday newsletter then you missed out on my big news. Just another reason why you want to subscribe to that, you don’t want to be missing out on big news and extra photos. Sooooo, my news is that my Alaska Ashleigh is coming home. I don’t know how long that she will be staying but it will be for at least the rest of the winter!!! She might divide her time between my moms and my sister’s houses but that is still way better than being all the way in Alaska. She will make her decision on what she is going to do once the first of the year rolls back around, or that is at least the plan.50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40AND, there is even bigger news! I “might” be going to meet her in Seattle and driving with her across the country. WHAT??? This is a trip of a lifetime and definitely something to mark off of a bucket list. This is outside of my comfort zone! Two women traveling by themselves across the country is not the smartest thing that I have ever done. Joe is worried about the blog. He wanted to know if I would be able to style outfits, have wifi, or would this be too much for me? I am already starting to think about different posts that I might do. Maybe one of making ????? outfits with a small amount of clothing. Or, maybe one on how to pack for a long trip in a small suitcase. If you have suggestions be sure to let me know. I am excited at the thought and terrified at the thought all at the same time. Right now I am already fighting with my daughter who wants to buy a dog along the way home. NO!!!! 50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40There are certain patterns that will always be in style. Stripes, florals, plaid, animal prints, and polka dots are classic patterns that will be around for a L O N G time. There might be a trend, such as a funky sleeve or a high/low hemline, that might make the clothing item a trendy item instead of a classic item. But, if you pick a classic pattern and a classic style, then you can keep your clothing item for years and it still is just as relevant as the day you purchased it. The shirtdress is also a classic style. The shirtdress is extremely versatile and can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion.50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40I added another classic to the look, pearls, but with a trendier statement. The Chantilly necklace is a cluster of teardrop shaped pearls on a gold chain and it is adjustable up to 33.75″ long. I added the Gentry earrings which are on the trendier side also. If I had added the Lena earrings and the Alicia necklace, then it would have been more toward a classic style. Accessories can really change the look of an outfit. 50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40Because I was adding trendier jewelry items to the look, I also added a trendier style shoe. The lucite heeled shoes are all the rage right now. I love the look but the pair that I have on is just a tiny bit too tall for even me. I wish that I had sent them back and got one of the ones that I am linking to below.

50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40I have on a Treasure & Bond midi shirtdress that I got in my last Trunk Club shipment. I love the long and lean look of this dress. Lucy Lu didn’t seem near as impressed. Lol! If you are interested in Trunk Club then go here to sign up and check it out. 50 IS NOT OLD | CLASSIC STRIPED SHIRTDRESS | FASHION OVER 40I made a video and published it on Saturday’s post about my morning skincare routine. That is how “I” do the routine but that does not mean that it is the perfect or only way to use these products. I also get asked a lot about products that I use, other than a full regimen. My Energizer Bunny Friend and I just did a list of our favorite products, so here you go:

  • Lash Boost – I LOVE having lashes for the first time in my life!!!!
  • Active Hydration Serum – This product is perfect for ALL skin types, even those who are sensitive or acne prone. Will infuse up to 200% hydration with the first use. For the neck up.
  • Redefine Multi-Function Eye Cream – Say goodbye to crows feet! Warning……can be addicting. LOL!
  • Intensive Renewing Serum – If you can only use ONE product for anti-aging, then this needs to be the one!
  • Active Hydration Body Replenish – Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking Active Hydration and making it for the rest of the body.
  • Redefine AMP MD System – Combines the Intensive Renewing Serum with the RF Derma Roller to help you achieve firmer looking skin.

Everyone who purchases one of these items as a Preferred Customer (in any combination as long as it totals 80.00) will receive a pack of the brand new Essential Instant Makeup Remover wipes from me. This is a TODAY ONLY special. Message me if you have any questions.

  1. My daughter-in-law, grandson, & I drove to Texas for my niece’s wedding. (He was ringbearer.) We drove directly there but vacationed coming back. Went to a couple caves, explored the Bass Pro pyramid, Slave Haven, The Ark, & Creation Museum; ate at some nice restaurants that we don’t have in PA & OH; tracked down cotton & tobacco fields (don’t have them up here). My daughter-in-law didn’t hesitate to do spur of the moment things. We added 9 more states for my grandson’s list of where he has been. He gets a state flag for every state he sees.
You & Ashleigh will have a wonderful time exploring. I’ll love seeing & hearing all the nifty places you see. You can let us know all about packing & what clothes you take & get new outfits on the way!
No dog though. I love dogs but a trip like that doesn’t seem like a good way to bond with a new dog. And limits where you stay & what you can visit. (my opinion.)
    Have fun & be safe.

I am going to be traveling cross country with my daughter ( 26) from Portland Oregon to St. Louis, MO with a dog!
She is coming home though , so it will all be worth it. We are going to take our time and enjoy our time together ( lol)

  3. How do I sign up for your Saturday newsletter? I didn’t see a link for that.

    1. Delores, I just went in and manually inputted you. You should receive one next Saturday.

  4. Tania, I did a road trip with my daughter from California to Nashville. She had to go to Nashville for 6 weeks as part of her Master’s program. I stayed with her for the 6 weeks, then I drove from Nashville to Arkansas and Oklahoma, visiting family along the way. (She flew home after the 6 weeks). My husband flew to Tulsa and met up with me there. We then had a great road trip together, taking in two presidential libraries and a baseball game in Denver! Take the trip with your daughter, you won’t regret it—but no dog!!!

  5. So pretty and you look so tall. Cool shoes too. Very chic today. What a trip for you and your daughter to make. And all the memories you’ll have from it. How to travel with say 10 pieces of clothing but have different looks would be fun idea while traveling. Just ordered more body replenish cream. Love that stuff.

Ooh, I am so excited for you about Ashleigh coming home and especially the mom/daughter road trip! And I’m so jealous! That will be such a blast and so precious to have that much time together! Can’t wait to see the blog from the road! Love that dress and shoes too!

    2. I like Johnna’s 10 pcs of clothing idea!!!!!!!

  6. Drive, yes; dog, NO!!! I helped my daughter move from Seattle to CO a few years ago; it was SO much fun. MAKE THOSE STOPS, every single one of them! Post pix of your trip; it doesn’t always have to be about fashion. Besides, you’ll still dress cute on the road (we KNOW you!! 😉

  7. Having just returned from a 10 day trip, most days day tripping, would LOVE to see a piece on comfortable travel wear, while still looking spiffy enough for lunch or dinner ‘on the road’. Love your blog everyday. Thank you

  8. The cross country trip sounds great! However, I agree about not buying a dog along the way. It just wouldn’t be fair to him/her. Would anyone enjoy being cooped up in a car with strangers that don’t know your language nor you theirs? And as Carol mentioned your choice of pet-friendly hotels will be very limited.

  9. You are SO beautiful in your stripes and lucite! I’m SO happy your little girl is coming home even if it’s just for a little while! ❤️ I miss my son, every day! You’re a VERY lucky Momma! A HOT MOMMA, too! ???

  10. How many days would you plan to make the trip back home? Good luck on the jury duty as my hubby got called to serve this past spring and they would NOT let him off when he told them we were farmers and it was right during our crop planting season and crops are our main source of income. I agree that she should wait til you get home to get the dog so you don’t have to worry about it when you are sight-seeing, eating, hotels, ect. I think it would be fun for you to blog about your daily adventures and include a couple photos of you and your daughter during that day or of the area you are in. And…I like the dress, looks comfy for Fall.
