CHIC, CLASSIC, SOPHISTICATED, AND AFFORDABLE!
For a color-loving girl, I sure have embraced black this year. I’m still changing and evolving, even though most women our age are categorized as “stuck in their ways.” Before I get on a soap-box, I’ll say this, keep an open mind in ALL areas of your life. What didn’t seem appealing five years ago might be exactly what you need at this stage of your life.
I am styling two outfits today that are predominately black. They also happen to both be dresses (or a top and skirt), but there are other options that I’ll be showing you later in this post.
Edgy and sophisticated are the two terms that I would use to describe this Black and White Asymmetrical Dress. The other descriptive word would be “fitted,” and that term is one that you will either love or hate. This dress has lots of stretch to the material, and the black lower half hides lots of lumps and bumps. But, the dress will conform to your shape; it does not flow away from the body.
The asymmetrical hemline is different and unique, and I love details like this. Black and White are a classic color combination, but the unusual hem creates an edgy vibe. One of my favorite dresses was navy and white, and it was the most flattering dress that I ever owned. The print was exactly like this dress, but the material was different. I would still be wearing that dress today if it wasn’t a size 4.
I’m wearing a large dress, and it fits me well. The dress is also available in bright pink and red, which is a great statement combination.
I know that some of you have a snake aversion, and I am not fond of live snakes either. This is a Faux-Leather Snake Print Mini Crossbody, and it is as cute as a button. I usually pick large handbags as my everyday bag, but for special occasions or when I wear dressy outfits, I prefer a smaller bag that only holds my phone, keys, lipstick, etc. This one is perfect for that, and I like that it is also available in brown tones.
I understand that wearing a fitted dress might not be everyone’s cup of tea, so I am showing you an option that I love. This is not actually a dress; it is a Peplum Smocked Top and a Ruffle Smocked Waist Midi Skirt. This is even better than a dress because it gives you options to wear the pieces differently. The peplum top will look adorable with chinos or high waist jeans, plus you could pair it with other skirts as well. The top comes in a couple of different colors, and I’m wearing a large, and the top fits great. It has a lot of stretch, but it doesn’t feel too big.
The skirt has pockets!!! My daughter grabbed this photo of me as I discovered the pockets. I was laughing and being silly because pockets make me so happy. It is ridiculous how happy pockets can make me. Lol! The midi skirt has different tiers and is made from a lightweight crepe that lets the skirt move and swing. I’m wearing a large skirt, but I think I could have sized it down to a medium. The skirt comes in a couple of other colors, and I’m thinking about getting the bright yellow one too.
I told you the skirt had a lot of movement to it. Lol! The Square Toe Faux-Leather Pump is strappy and perfect for Spring and Summer. The heel is a little unusual as it is a half-block heel. These pumps will look great with any outfit you want to dress up, including jeans or shorts. The pumps run true to size, and I’m wearing my usual size 9.
You can’t go wrong with black and white. If you have some black or white items in your closet, then you will never be without something to wear. If all else fails, wear black, white, or black and white. It is chic, sophisticated, and classic. I’ve linked some great choices from Walmart below.
Walmart makes it very convenient for its customers to shop, especially since most people have a store within 10 miles of their homes. Walmart has an extraordinary policy of free 2-day shipping and returns for purchases over $35! You can also sign up for Walmart Plus, where you get Free Shipping and no order minimums. This is a service I highly recommend!!! If available where you live, Walmart will bring your groceries, etc., to your home, and you can also save an extra 5¢ per gallon of gas. Thank you, Tania! I play the violin and viola professionally and the harp for hospice. And you can tell Joe I also play the fiddle -the difference between violin and fiddle is the violin is what you play in the symphony and the fiddle is what you play in the barn! You are such an inspiration, Tania. Thank you!!
Lol! Jennifer, that made me laugh!
Love the b/w classics, love the price point! I prefer their shorter dresses just due to my height. These look great on you!
You look so cute in both outfits and your hair looks amazing!
Love the outfits today, but I have an aversion to snake print clothes as well. Love the dresses.
Really like the top and skirt outfit and like the different colors in comes in also. Would like the top with pants.
I like your outfits today. I wear a lot of black and always will. Up here in Canada, everyone wears black all year. We actually don’t have a lot of colour choices in our stores even in spring and summer.
I like your sandals and just was wondering how they feel with plantar fasciitis as I have it too and it really limits my shoe choices.
Marlene, I’ve found that my plantar fascitis doesn’t hurt as much when I wear heels, at least not for short-term wearing.
I wouldn’t usually order black, but you make it look refreshing. and a great summer look. So I ordered it for my niece’s wedding. If I don’t like, then I can easily return.
Vicki, I’m not usually a black wearer either, but I’m loving it this year.
Love both looks on you!!! Can’t go wrong with classic black and white! Hard to believe they’re fromWalmart! Loving your posts featuring their line of affordable fashion!!! More please!!!
Denise, I love bringing fashion to you at all different price points so that everyone has a chance to buy something they love.
As a professional musician, “concert attire” is always black and white so your black and white outfits are my favorite! And at WalMart?!?! Hooray!! Thank you!!
Jennifer, you would look great in these dresses! What do you play?
I love the first outfit so much that I just ordered the entire thing! Walmart sure has stepped up its game! You look smashing in both selections, Tania!😍
Wendy, I’m thrilled that you liked the dress. I have really been impressed by the fashions at Walmart, the quality of this dress is nice also!
I also love black & white or navy & white and think those combos are so classic. While you look fabulous in both outfits, the dress definitely isn’t one for my body. Great pictures, by the way!
Ginger, I didn’t think that the black and white would look good on me, but the empire waist white print gives such a slimming look, that I loved it!
I love black and white!
Me, too, Kathy!!!
Two great outfits. Where would you wear the first one? Unfortunately it was already sold out in my size.
Elizabeth, you could wear the first outfit anywhere you would wear a dress. Work, lunch, date night, church, etc.
Not my favorite look. But I’m not a black and white person.
Connie, usually I don’t wear black, but I’m loving it this year. Who knew???
That black and white dress fits you like a glove and is so flattering! I can’t believe it’s from Walmart! I was holding my breath when I clicked the link, waiting to see an expensive price, and I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it! Great choice! I want it in both colors now!
Isn’t that dress fantastic?!? I love the edgy asymmetrical hem!!!
Love both looks
Yay!!! I’m glad you like the outfits.
I love black and white!! These dresses today are beautiful!!
Thanks, Cathy! I love this classic combination too.
I love today’s outfits and accessories, and never would have guessed they’re from WalMart. Gotta love black & white!
Walmart fashion has really improved and they have a great selection.
You are looking so fabulous and can tell working out agrees with you! I must ask what type of exercises are you doing for your torso? That is my real problem area.
Keep up the good work !!!
Thanks, Cheryl! Honestly, I’m not exercising much except for the occasional trip to the gym and taking walks. I am concentrating on my diet, and that is working for now.
