50 IS NOT OLD | WHAT CHOICES DO YOU MAKEI recently did a post where I spoke about coffee, and how we can relate our faith to a cup of coffee. Many of you commented that you loved the devotion, and I even heard back from one reader, where the devotion was used at her church. Her husband was doing the meditation devotional, and he referenced my blog post about the coffee. I bet that has to be the first time that a fashion blog was quoted in a church devotional. Lol!

Today, I want to continue along that theme and talk about how you drink your coffee? I know some of you are saying, “with cream or with sugar.” I am not talking about what is in your coffee, I am talking about what your coffee is “in.”

A couple weeks ago, we actually had this discussion about cups, and since it went so well with my coffee devotional, I decided to mention it you all of you. The first thing we do when we go to get coffee, is to grab a cup out of the cupboard. Have you even given it any thought as to what kind or type of cup you pull out? Stop right now and look at your cup, what can you tell me about the cup, and what does the cup tell me about you?

Vintage:

I like vintage items, and maybe “I” am a little vintage myself. I think of vintage items as having a deep connection to the past, and relishing all the sacrifices that have been made by our ancestors. There is no one who made a greater sacrifice for us, than Jesus Christ. He gave his life, so that you could live.

Styrofoam:

Connivence is the key here. Most of the time, if we are drinking out of a styrofoam cup, it is because we are on the run. We put our coffee in the styrofoam cup, and head out the door. We run to a drive-through, and grab a cup to take with us as we drive along. Hurry, hurry, hurry. We all hurry and rush around like everything would fall apart if we took an extra few minutes to just sit quietly and drink our coffee. The Bible talks a lot about taking the time to be with the Lord in his presence. Do we hurry through that process too? I admit I am guilty. There is NOTHING more important than taking the time to talk to the Lord and read his word, so why do I feel the urge to reach over and grab the phone to check emails?

Solo Cup:

Everyone knows about the solo cups, there has even been a country song made just about that cup. A lot of people use these cups to “hide” what they are drinking. It is obviously not something they are proud of, and they are trying to keep it hidden from the world. That applies to a lot of people in their lives too. Do you have things in your life that you would rather keep hidden from the rest of the world?

1/2 Full or 1/2 Empty:

We all know the 1/2 full or 1/2 empty meanings. It all depends upon your outlook on life. Are you optimistic or pessimistic? This also applies to our faith. Are you full of hope, and trust, or do you think there is no way you will ever be good enough? The Lord welcomes EVERYONE, he does not care about your looks, your money, your health, your color, or anything else. He only wants your obedience, your love, your devotion.

Runneth Over:

Have you ever seen someone who just beams? They have this light inside them, that shines so bright, it is noticeable. Their cup runneth over! These are people we want to be around, they exude love and kindness. The Lord’s light shines in them and through them. We all have heard the, “This little light of mine,” song, so let’s let it shine.

Saying:

A huge trend is to have coffee cups with different sayings on them. I was looking through my cabinet, and I have all the free cups that have been given to me with different advertisements on them, but those aren’t the one’s that interested me. Instead, I wanted to see the one’s that I had purchased, or one’s that someone had given me. My favorite one’s are the one’s that the kid’s bought for me when they were young, that say “World’s Greatest Mom.” However, there are a couple other’s that speak volumes also, one says, “Don’t Bother Me I’m Crabby,” another says, “Don’t Let Anyone Dull Your Sparkle,” and the last one says, “It’s All About Me.” Those were all cups that were gifts, so what do those say about me as a person?

Making the choice of what we put our coffee in, is a simple choice. But, we as Christians are faced with lots of choices throughout the day. Did you choose to pray before you got out of bed, and thank the Lord for another day? Did you take some time to spend with the Lord in a morning devotional? Do you let his light shine in you? Whether you know it or not, someone is watching you, and the way you conduct yourself could have an impact on them. Let’s start making the right choice, starting with a simple coffee cup.

Have a blessed day!

What a great example! I love my BIG mugs with all sorts of saying or from different place I’ve been. One of my favorites is BIG and very colorful, it says “I am Blessed” I did have my devotional this morning, but I did not thank God before I stepped out of bed. I am so very thankful to be well and alive. Thank you for your words of wisdom and your love for the Lord.
