50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPI left work on a little early on Wednesday afternoon to go home and just relax. I opened the gate to walk onto the patio and I could hear squeals of laughter coming from that direction. I knew what that meant, my little stinker Emersyn must be swimming in the pool. I opened the gate and walked in and when she saw me she jumped out and came flying over. Come swim, NeeNee!!! This was just what I need to help me relax.50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPFirst, she had to have a sandwich fixed and she was very specific about what she wanted on it. It could only be ham and nothing else. Since I only had some turkey I tried to talk her into that but she flat out refused. So, I fixed her the sandwich with the turkey and handed it to her and said ok, here’s your sandwich. She ate every last bite and even munched down on some broccoli salad. If I had told her that it was turkey she probably would have spit it out. I think this falls into the “what you don’t know won’t hurt you” category. After she ate we went out and played and played. It is funny what you will do for the grandbabies. We had to go under the water and wave at each other. She had goggles on but I didn’t so my mascara started to run. Joe laughed and said he was going to take a picture for you gurls of me with raccoon eyes. Lol!50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPI bought this halter top while I was in Alaska. I love the color, I would almost call this butterscotch, and I love the hem line, however, this is not my favorite style of neckline. I still envision the movies back in the 70’s where all the women had on halter tops when I see this style. They say that halter tops are flattering for most body types but that those who are chesty might have more problems.

50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPI don’t think that I have ever worn this set on the blog before. It was actually one of those sets that I thought I would never wear. The picture on the website makes the necklace look tiny and it is huge and GORGEOUS!!! I can’t believe how different it looks in person. The earrings are called the Juliet. They are gray and creamy white stones and they have a 2″ drop.50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPThe matching Imogene necklace is soooo pretty. It has dark smokey looking stones, light gray stones, and topaz stones. I love the dangles that hang from the pendant. It is 33″ long with probably a 2″ adjustable chain. The chain on this necklace is a little more dainty than a lot of the Plunder jewelry. Go to www.plunderdesign.com/taniastephens to order and be sure to pick the party with my name in it.50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPI thought my dark gray Aimee Kenstenberg satchel would look good with this outfit. The gold accents even matched my necklace. Aren’t I little Miss Matchy, Matchy. Lol! I really like this satchel but it is too small for me to carry on a regular basis so I only use it occasionally. I will say that the leather and quality are really nice on this purse though.

50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPThe dark gray gladiator studded sandals by Sole Society match the purse perfectly. I know you are not supposed to match a purse to your shoes but who cares. I like the look and I think it looks nice together. I will never be on the cutting edge of fashion but I will always look “nice.” I know a lot of bloggers go out of their way to wear outfits that make you scratch your head and if that makes them happy then that is fine by me. However, I am just going to stay in the range of “that looks nice” and I hope that is fine by them. Lol!

50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPI love my trellis pane ankle pants. These are the lightest gray or silver and I think it looks fabulous with the yellow. I love the color combination! I also wear these pants with navy, (here) which really makes the silver stand out. I normally wear a solid color when I wear a printed item, I am not the best at that whole pattern matching trend. Lol! Remember, is just a matter of personal preference. You wear what you like. Just don’t wear pajamas to Wal-Mart! Hahaha!

50 IS NOT OLD | CAN WOMEN IN THEIR FIFTIES WEAR A HALTER TOPThis has been a great month for my Rodan + Fields team. We have been making plans to attend a convention in October in Charleston, SC and I am so excited to see everyone again. I personally have been lucky to have gotten several emails from customers telling me how much they like the products which NEVER gets old. I had two ladies cancel their PC accounts but only because they decided to become consultants themselves!!! WooHoo! How exciting that they will be able to buy their products at a huge discount and then hopefully make some spending cash for the extras in life, like new shoes and clothing. Lo! On a completely different note, some of you saw me post my “naked” picture without makeup. Rodan + Fields gave $561,000.00 in contributions to programs to Prescription For A Change. This company really is awesome.

Do you know what my number one referrer page is? It is Pinterest! I truly appreciate every time you “pin” a picture. Heck, pin ALL the pictures if you want. Lol! Also, if you would like to share my posts on Facebook or Twitter, I would appreciate that. It helps get my blog out to more people, and I am sure you just want to spread the entertaining sayings I have. Lol! The comment section is at the end of the post, so keep scrolling. I look forward to reading all the comments, they make my day.

  1. Such a sweet look! Love this halter top teamed with pastel blue slim trousers and pointed toe caged flats. Anyway, halter neck tops are ideal for making a wow impression! They can be dressed up and down with some little tricks! Plus, they are extremely versatile and easy to style. By the way, I have a post about halter tops and ways to wear this Summer 2018, check it: http://standoutlook.com/what-halter-tops-are-on-trend-this-summer-2018/ hope you like my ideas. Overall, thanks for your post!

  2. Love this halter, great color great fit. I am a 36 DD and wear a halter bra vs a strapless it’s so much more comfortable. I feel I look more confident if I’m not adjusting and tugging at my outfit.

  3. Exited to start following your blog. I need to start feeling good about myself, my clothes, my hair. It looks like you are just. What I need. Thank you.

  4. Hello Tania, thank you for your blog. I love it and I love your style combos. I don’t know much about style and this really helps me alot. Candy

You can definitely rock that halter top at any age! And I love your shoes and those pants! Very cute jewelry Too!

  6. Absolutely as long as it’s in good taste. You look fabulous; the top is cute and I like the color combination. The story about Emersyn is cute as well.

  7. Erin Koepp says:

Um, I’d say, no we can’t. We had our day once upon a time!

  8. Cynthia Willis says:

I like the toon but have never worn a halter top! I north of 60 and you might say my bra is like social security, I didn’t always need one, but can’t imagine life without it-at least outside of my house! So, my question is do you have a good recommendation for a foundation garment that would be suitable, comfortable, and supportive? Otherwise, I think a lot of us mature ladies will just leave these tops on the hanger. Thanks, Tania, love reading your blog.

  9. I say yes to a halter top if it’s tastefully worn. No, if you have back fat. lol. I wear a small in tops & I’m currently hitting the gym & working on toning my arms. I’m starting to see some definition in my arms. I think a sleeveless or halter top looks much better if your arms are toned.

  10. Tania, you are a breath of fresh air. I follow about 3 bloggers like you and you stand out to me. Keep teaching and inspiring us.

    Very cute today!?

  12. kim granzella says:

I love this look. I bought a bunch of halter tops & halter dresses last year. Since I spend so much time in Florida and it is so hot in the summer they are great cool and classy look. I love them! Having said that I am not busty and I don’t wear any that expose my entire upper back. Grandchildren make you do the craziest thing. My oldest granddaughter asked me to sit on the bottom of her pool with her and hold hands 5 years ago. I told her do you know how old I am. She said yes but wouldn’t you be so proud to be able to tell your friends what you did! She got me and I have been doing it ever since. My kids get a kick out of it because neither of their grandmother ever went in the water above their knees………….

  14. Denise Reed says:

You look fabulous as usual. The jewelry is perfect, love the colors and the answer is yes on the halter top. I love your blog, its like sharing a cup of coffee and a chat.

  15. You always look good but I’m afraid this halter neck top does nothing for you. Sorry .. just my opinion.

  16. Elizabeth says:

Great Summer look! I am glad that I am not the only person who loves yellow!

  17. I like the halter top on you and think its looks fine. I haven’t found a strapless bra that is comfortable to wear either. There are so many cute maxi dresses out there but I would need a strapless bra to wear them. Can you please advise myself and all the others what kind is comfortable and if anyone else has any recommendations please chime in. Thanks!

  18. Mary sheridan says:

What type is bra would you wear with the halter top?

  19. I love your top and how you look in it! I recently bought a similar cream colored top with spaghetti straps. I wore a cardigan over it the one time I’ve worn it. I’m headed to the beach next week for our annual girl’s trip with my sisters and extended family and was debating how I could wear it. It’s so hot in Florida that layering just didn’t seem to be a good idea. I’ve decided to wear it as is….I’m 61.

  20. You and your outfit look fantastic. I love patterned pants. I always try to be creative with what I wear them with on the top half.
Maybe you should do a week of the same pant with different looks each day!

  21. Susan Stancliff says:

Great outfit! I love the halter look and I think anyone can wear them properly. Love the pants. Do you know where you found them?

  22. Love the halter top and it looks great on you! Love, love the sandwich and swimming story! Grandkids are such a gift!

  23. Tania Goddard says:

I don’ t usually wear halter necks because I don’t think I suit them, due to me being a bit top heavy Lol! But it looks great on you and I love the lacy detail at the bottom and the mustard colour! Love the jewellery especially the necklace!

  24. Age just shouldn’t matter—I hope—on what we wear!! Does it look good with our body types and what we feel comfortable wearing??
The halter looks fabulous on you, Tania!! I know my stepmom (the 60+ model on my blog) probably wouldn’t wear it because she has a large lipoma on her shoulder and always feels self conscious about covering it up!!

  25. Marilyn S. says:

You are definitely rocking that top. Would you consider doing a foundation’s course for us? Like your favorite strapless bra, best spanx styles or tummy tuckers? You may not want to model them …. but maybe just show us some links – because you always look so put together and sometimes that requires some under garment help.

    1. I have really been considering this exact post, Marilyn. I need to do some research though with some of my friends who have different body types and see what works for them. BTW, I definitely won’t be modeling them. Lol!

  26. I am with several others here in saying that I like halter style tops, but have never solved the “what bra to wear” issue.

I am completely drooling over that bag!! And those shoes too!

  27. I’m so happy I found you! I haven’t found a lot of great blogs for women over 50. I love that halter top on you; the detail at the bottom is amazing.

  28. Love the earrings. Also like your longer hair style…it would be great if you could post some side and back views of your longer cut.☺

    1. I just went to the hairdresser on Monday. I should have had her take pictures. That is the only time the back ever looks good. I hardly ever look in the mirror to fix it so it usually is a mess. Lol!

  29. Sweet outfit on you! Personally for me, if a top requires a strapless bra, I’m out! I hate strapless bras, have never found one yet that I like, I am just uncomfortable all day wearing one….lol…..if anyone has found the perfect strapless, please share!!!!!! ?

  30. Brenda Noble says:

Woo hoo!!! I am able to get your feeds again! So nice to turn on my computer and see your smiling face. You wear that halter top well. I have pants that are very similar to yours and wear them much more than I thought I would. Almost every color works with them! Have a great day!

    1. Yay!!! Glad to have you back, Brenda!

  31. So….love the top and the jewels are gorgeous, but this begs the question….what type of bra are you wearing? I think that’s what we might need a little more help with. I KNOW I do! Thanks!!

  32. This looks great on you! What a great color combo! You look lovely!

  33. Yes to halters and matching shoes and bags!!! Halters can be tasteful as you have shown. As for matching, it looks put together if not overdone. I swear some people mix so many things that it looks more like a costume! Enough with living by other people’s rules!

    1. I agree, Janet. I am not sure why we let people we don’t know dictate to us what we should wear. We are adults and we know what we like. Lol!

  34. Jayne perry says:

I’m soo glad I’m on here…u always look nice…im frm the UK.. ?

  35. BERNIE MCINTYRE says:

yes they can ! and you look fabulous having a bigger bust not so much ! as much as I would love too 🙂

  36. Teresa Spivey says:

Love the look! You look fabulous! I am trying to step out of my comfort zone and you are inspiring me! Thanks

    1. Thanks, Teresa. I have to remind myself to step outside my zone occasionally, too. Lol!

  37. Haha, when my mascara is running my hubby says:you are Alice Cooper! I asked myself on my blog last Tuesday if I should wear sleeveless tops!

    1. That is too funny, Nancy!!

  38. Jeanne Epley says:

I like the outfit, but it is not me. Or am I “afraid” to wear something like a halter top. LOL Great colors too. Love the jewelry. I have a list of wants…..LOL Isn’t it great to have your grand daughter near, to be able to play with, my left today after 19 days and I really miss them. Hope you continue to enjoy that blessing. Have a great night.

    1. The house is so quiet after the grands leave. Lol! I sure do miss all the noise.
