CAN STRIPES MAKE YOU LOOK THINNER

Wow, Friday snuck up on me this week. It has been so rainy and nasty outside that I haven’t had the opportunity to take photos. But, I remembered that I had these, and I’ve had people mention that they couldn’t wear stripes. They felt that stripes made them look bigger than they were. So, today, I wanted to show you one way that stripes can actually make you look thinner. But, before I talk about that, let me tell you about all of the balls that I’ve had in the air over the past week or two. Joe and I did something crazy. This was not our normal crazy; this was a, “oh my word, what did we just do” kind of crazy. Lol!

We bought a house!!! Some of you might be thinking that doesn’t sound crazy. The house is 1 1/2 hours away from where we currently live, and we aren’t sure that we are even going to move. Lol! We are just testing the waters, and we plan on staying at the new house (once it is entirely ours) several days a week. We’ve thought about moving for years, and it has kind of fell in our lap. Where we currently live might be purchased within the next few years because of the flood zone. If that happens, we don’t want to be left scrambling to find a place to live.

The house that we found is a great investment, in case we don’t end up moving. We think that we will be able to sell the house later on if for some reason our house isn’t purchased. But, in the meantime, we will have two water bills, electric bills, insurance, internet, not to mention a house payment. The people we are buying the house from are selling us a lot of their furniture, so at least I don’t have to worry about buying that for now. I told you that it was crazy! For some reason, I have been in a black and white mood lately. Black and white are a classic combination, and you can’t go wrong when you purchase these colors. But, I normally like wearing bright colors most of the time. As soon as I saw this white v-neck sweater with the black chevron stripes, I immediately put it in my cart. I love the print, and I think it will help create the illusion of being thinner than I truly am.

The reason that these stripes make you look thinner is that the stripes go from the outside of the shoulder to the middle, and this draws your eyes inward. This simple illusion helps to create a waistline for me by making my shoulders look broader. If you already have wide shoulders, this might not be the sweater for you.

Here is the view from the back, and you can see that the pattern extends all around the sweater. I am wearing a size 1 sweater, which fits me great. The sweater has 3/4 length sleeves, which will be great for spring if it ever gets here. I love 3/4 length sleeves, and I think that they are the most flattering sleeve length.

I am actually wearing silver jewelry today! The V necklace was a gift from R+F, so it isn’t available for purchase, but the rest of my items are. The Maggie small filigree silver hoops are medium size hoops instead of the LARGE Maggie hoops that I wear all of the time. I know some of you may not like the large hoops as I do, so this size would be perfect for you. The small cubic zirconia horizontal cross is one that I love wearing. I broke my Kendra Scott chain on my other cross necklace, and I haven’t been able to fix it yet.

I apologize how black pants against a black door doesn’t show up very well. When I go to the new house later today, I’ll have to pay attention and see if there are areas that I can take photos with good lighting. Lol! I never thought that would be on my list of things when searching for a house to buy.

These black, slightly distressed raw hem jeans are by Joe’s Jeans. If you have followed me very long, then you know that I’ve become a huge fan of Joe’s Jeans and AG Jeans. These jeans are pricey, so I always buy them when I catch them on sale, and I encourage you to do the same. This pair is going to be my spring and summer jeans worn with a white tee-shirt. I think that black jeans and a white tee are such a classy look.

I am wearing a size 31 in these jeans because I’ve learned to size up one size in this brand. I’ll link to some black jeans that aren’t distressed for those who aren’t on the distressed jeans bandwagon.
