At-Home Blowout Tips for Women Over 50
I get asked more questions about my hair than anything else. I’m not going to pretend that I’m a wash-and-go girl. I do take a few (or several) minutes styling it, but that’s good news.
You don’t have to visit the salon to get that smooth, bouncy, professional-looking blowout! With the right tools and a few tricks, you can create volume, shine, and movement right at home, even if your hair has thinned a bit over the years. The key is protecting your strands, using lightweight products, and taking your time with sectioning. Here are my favorite products for achieving a perfect at-home blowout for women over 50.
Tea Tree Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo
A good shampoo is essential! This shampoo is a refreshing start to your blowout routine. It cleanses without stripping, adds volume, and helps fine hair feel fuller and more manageable. The lemon sage scent smells clean and bright, and the formula gives hair that “fresh from the salon” lift.
- Adds lightweight body and bounce to fine hair
- Helps strengthen and thicken strands over time
- Refreshing lemon sage scent for a clean finish
- Gentle enough for everyday use
Keranique Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner Set
If you’re dealing with thinning or fragile hair, this duo is a must. The biotin and keratin-infused formula nourishes the scalp, reduces breakage, and adds fullness without weighing your hair down. It’s ideal for mature women who want both repair and volume.
- Strengthens thinning, aging hair
- Adds visible volume and body
- Biotin and keratin help prevent breakage
- Restores shine and manageability
L’ANGE Hair Glass Hair Thermal Blowout Primer
Before you pick up your dryer, prep your hair with this blowout primer. It acts as a heat protectant while helping your hair stay frizz-free and shiny. A few sprays give your hair that glossy, “glass” finish that makes a blowout look polished and smooth.
- Protects against heat damage
- Adds shine and reduces frizz
- Lightweight and non-greasy formula
- Leaves hair sleek and soft
Arvazallia Heat Protectant Spray with Argan Oil
This salon-quality spray not only shields your hair from heat but also doubles as a leave-in conditioner! The argan oil gives instant softness and smoothness, and it tames flyaways without flattening volume.
- Heat protection up to 450°F
- Enriched with argan oil for smoothness and shine
- Reduces frizz and adds a silky finish
- Great for daily styling and blow-drying
Professional Round Brush for Blow Drying
A good blowout starts with the right brush. This large ceramic barrel brush holds heat to speed up drying while giving you salon-style volume. It’s perfect for creating lift at the roots and smooth, bouncy ends.
- Ceramic ionic barrel helps reduce frizz
- Large size adds volume and shape
- Smooths hair while drying
- Ideal for medium to long hair
Boar Bristle Round Brush Set with Nylon Pins
This two-in-one brush set is fantastic for getting that soft, polished finish. The boar bristles distribute natural oils for shine, while the nylon pins gently detangle. It’s great for both straightening and adding soft curls.
- Gentle detangling for mature hair
- Adds shine by redistributing natural oils
- Helps create smooth curls or straight styles
- Wooden handle gives easy control
REVLON One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer and Styler
If you’ve ever struggled to manage a brush and dryer at once, this tool is a game-changer. It dries, smooths, and adds volume all in one step. It’s fast, simple, and gives that salon-worthy bounce without the arm workout.
- Combines dryer and brush in one tool
- Adds volume while smoothing hair
- Reduces heat damage and frizz
- Easy to use for all hair types
CONFU Ionic Blow Dryer
This lightweight blow dryer is perfect for at-home styling. The ionic technology helps seal the cuticle to lock in moisture, and the multiple heat and speed settings let you customize your blowout for your hair type.
- Compact and travel-friendly design
- Negative ions reduce frizz and boost shine
- Three heat settings for custom control
- Includes diffuser and concentrator attachments
Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
Finish your blowout with this cult-favorite bonding oil. Just a drop or two adds incredible shine, tames frizz, and helps protect your hair from future damage. It’s lightweight enough for fine hair and makes your style last longer.
- Protects from heat up to 450°F
- Strengthens and smooths damaged strands
- Adds long-lasting shine and softness
- Works for all hair types and textures
A great blowout isn’t about spending hours or a ton of money. It’s about using the right products in the right order. Start with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, protect with a primer or oil, and style with the right brush and dryer for your hair type. It takes time and effort, but it does work!

Found it 🙂 I have short grey hair and I have the hair dryer and I love it. It’s light weight and easy to use.
🙂 Great ideas, thanks.
🙂 my hair is thick and curly and I find serums with argan oil work well for me.
🙂 I’m always looking for new hair tips.
I found it !
I am definitely a “ my hair looks different every time I blow dry it “ girl. I stopped coloring my short fine hair a few months ago and still adjusting to the natural color. I will try these shampoos for sure .
😊! Love the shine drops. Use them every day.
Thanks for letting us all know.
😊 Thank you for these hair tips . I have the bonding oil already and love it . I am thinking of buying a volumizer hair dryer. My granddaughter has one and did a great job on my hair at Christmas
🙂 I have one hot mess of short hair. I wash everyday and blow it out. I have one straight side, which fairs nicely and one curly side which is a frizzy mess. Years ago I started putting a couple of drops of pure Argan oil in my hands and working it into a fine layer in my palms and fingers, then running it through my fine, thin hair, mostly the frizzy side. Style it and I get compliments all the time. If they only knew.
Goodness, you have a lot to deal with. My skin is so dry, I can’t wash my hair but every 3 or 4 days because my scalp would be too dry.
I am a walking oil slick including my scalp even at 65.
😊I am going to try Tea Tree Lemon and Sage.
😊. Thanks for the styling tips. I have baby fine hair and it’s good to know which products are light and won’t weigh my hair down.
