What We Think About Matters More Than We Realize

Some days, sitting down to write feels harder than usual. Not because there aren’t words, but because there are too many thoughts competing for attention. The world can feel overwhelming at times, noisy, unsettled, and heavy, and it’s easy to wonder where we’re supposed to look for stability.

I know where I turn, and I am deeply grateful for that. Because if my hope rested only in people or systems or circumstances, I would feel completely untethered. Mankind is flawed. We make mistakes. We disappoint each other. We look out for our own interests. That has always been true.

What steadies me is knowing that my hope does not rest there.

Where Our Thoughts Lead Us

I was talking with my daughter recently about how to keep the right mindset, especially when life feels uncertain. One thing we kept coming back to is this: our thoughts and our words matter more than we realize. What we focus on quietly shapes how we experience life.

This verse has been lingering in my heart:

Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.

Renewing the Mind Is a Daily Practice

There was a time when I used to say things like, “I think I’m getting sick.” And wouldn’t you know it, I always seemed to end up sick. Maybe I would have gotten sick no matter what, but I decided to change what I was telling myself. I started saying, “I rarely get sick. My body is strong.”

At first, it felt awkward. I did not fully believe it yet. But the more I repeated it, the more my mindset shifted. And over time, my reality followed. I truly am hardly ever sick now. Joe catches a cold, but I rarely do.

That experience made this verse come alive for me:

Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Renewing your mind does not mean ignoring reality. It means choosing where your focus lands. We may not control what happens around us, but we do have a say in how we respond to it.

The Body Listens to the Mind

Have you ever woken from a bad dream with your heart racing? Maybe you were being chased, falling, or afraid, and your body reacted as if it were all real. Sweaty palms, pounding heart, shallow breathing. Even though it was only a dream, your body did not know the difference.

That is how powerful our thoughts are.

I have seen people lose the will to live, not because their bodies failed first, but because their hope did. And if a person can will themselves to give up, then we can also choose to will ourselves to live, to hope, and to trust.

Who We Trust When Things Feel Unsteady

Faith does not promise a life without difficulty. What it promises is presence. God walks with us through every season, calm or chaotic.

And honestly, who better to walk with? He parted the sea. He healed the sick. He calmed storms. He raised the dead. He created the world we live in. And we are His children.

That truth changes everything.

Choosing Unity Over Fear

Times like these invite us to pull inward, to protect, to divide, or to retreat. But Scripture calls us to something higher.

1 Corinthians 1:10 (NIV)
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Unity begins in our thoughts, then our words, and finally our actions. When we choose peace over panic and trust over fear, we contribute something good to a world that desperately needs it.

To GOD Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

Let’s End With A Prayer

Lord,
When our minds feel restless, and our hearts feel heavy, help us to turn to You first. Renew our thoughts, calm our spirits, and remind us that You are in control. Teach us to focus on what is true, good, and hopeful. Help us to walk in faith instead of fear, and to be a source of peace to those around us. Unite us in love, strengthen our trust in You, and guide us through every season ahead.
Amen.
