Does Black Make Me Look Thinner?

DSC_0054It’s Monday, in case you didn’t already know, and it is time to head back to work. I am ready, it has been a busy weekend. I spent most of the day Saturday doing a little Christmas shopping. Our local social services has a large  amount of families who need a little extra help buying gifts for their children for Christmas. You can “adopt” a child, purchase the gifts, and the social services give out the gifts at a big party. I am not telling you this to pat myself on the back. I am wanting to encourage everyone, who has the means, to see if there is a program like this in your area that you could help with.DSC_0048I went in my closet this morning to decide what to wear, and was overwhelmed at how much black and gray is in my closet. I assume everyone has at least one black item in their closet. I know what assuming does, but I am pretty confident in this assumption. Haha  Since I have soooo much black and gray, I have decided to dress in these colors all week long. This sweater set in old, old, old. But, I absolutely adore this set. For one thing it is cashmere. For another thing it is cashmere. I guess you get my drift. This is a Talbots set, and I honestly think I got it off of Ebay. I went through a phase where I bought a lot of “sample” Talbots item on Ebay. Here is a similar sweater.DSC_0053I have several stacked vintage bracelets on, and I am carrying a vintage patent leather cherry red envelope purse. I carry this purse often. I love the high gloss look, and it is big enough to hold a wallet, and a phone. Here is a similar one,DSC_0049Did you notice my booties? I know it would have been hard to have missed them, they are a little bright. I had been looking for some red boots, and these were just too cute to pass up. They are a little taller than ankle boots, but shorter than knee boots. DSC_0050The zippers are what set these boots apart. I might have to try these with the plaid leggings. Lol!DSC_0052The necklace is a vintage, two-strand pearl necklace. I wish you could see this necklace. It is gorgeous. The pictures do not do it justice. The red part is faceted glass beads in two different shades of red. I also have on a pair of large pearl studs that I picked up at Cato’s. They are reversible, with the other side being a small ball of rhinestones. Items that can be worn with several different looks, give you more bang for your buck.DSC_0047The pants are pixie high rise ankle pants from Old Navy in the color, dark steel. My closet is full of pixie pants, in all colors and patterns. I think Old Navy hit a home run with this line.

Some of you have asked, so I am going to give you an update of my weight loss goal. When I told you I weighed 165.2, I had already lost 1.2 pounds. I now weigh 163, so that would be a total of 3.4 pounds in all. That is not a huge amount, but since we are talking over Thanksgiving, I will take it. I have only made a few small changes. I am trying to walk at least 30 minutes everyday, I am only drinking water with lemon, I am trying to have smaller portions, saying no to sweets (for the most part), and I am eating a salad pretty much every day for lunch with the dressing on the side. My husband was leaving today to go play golf, and he came over to give me a hug. He grabbed me in the waist, and said “Wow, how much have you lost”? I hadn’t even mentioned that I was trying, but he can always tell if I gain or lose even 1 pound. It is uncanny. He could have been one of those people who were in the carnivals that could guess your weight!

  6. The outfit is lovely! Sweater set and booties!!! LOVE. Congrats on your weight loss. I’ll be happy to not GAIN any over the holidays and get back to the LOSS after the holidays.

    1. If I can make it through Christmas with no weight gain, I will be thrilled!

  7. Tania, I have quite a few years on you. If black looks great on you, then wear it. I could tell that black was not flattering on me in my mid fifties. However, women who have silver or white hair, it usually looks great on them. You have a good sense of style and color. You know what to wear.

  8. The argyle sweater set is so smart! You gave it a trendy twist with the red boots and your bracelets. We did Operation Christmas Child a couple weeks ago. We have done that so long I almost have it down to a science shopping to fill the shoe box. I always find great kid’s clothes on sale to include a couple of shirts or tops in the box along with the fun stuff. Being a smart shopper comes in handy. I own only a couple black items. Years ago I realized black really emphasizes lines and wrinkles when you are aging and so my staple is NAVY BLUE. It is not as harsh as black and is a great neutral. Way to go on your lunch choice. It should be about being healthy not just being thin so congratulations!

    1. For some reason, Sharon, I just haven’t warmed up to navy. I need to give it another try.

  9. You look fabulous! From the reversible earring to those beautiful boots, I love it all. Sweater sets are one of my favorites no matter what the trend is at this time. You are encouraging me to shed some pounds. Can’t blame it on the baby, she’s forty now…ha!

    1. Donna, that makes me smile☺️

    1. Thanks Debbie. Those booties are pushing me out of my comfort zone????

  10. I’ve started exercising… it’s a must at my age to help keep these old pounds from continuing to add up. ugh.

Good luck with your weight loss too! xox

Super cute!!!! I love the sweater set and the boots are AWESOME!!!! And great job on the weight loss. This time of year is extra tough so kudos to you!
I was at a hometown grocery store a few weeks ago and they asked me when I checked out if I wanted to round up to the next dollar and the extra goes to the local food shelf. Absolutely!!! I thought now why don’t more places do that? I would do it every single time…for one thing it’s benefiting people and another…it makes doing my checkbook quicker. 🙂

    1. I agree, Melanie! I am thankful I am in the position to help out those in need. And kudos, right back attcha:)
