HOW TO YOU WEAR A PLAID RUANA IN THE FALL
A cold spell has hit Virginia with a vengeance. It seems like we went for summer temperatures to winter temperatures, with only a week or so of fall. How did that happen??? We even got a few inches of snow on Tuesday, but I love snow, so that was a welcome sight. I hate freezing cold temperatures like the kind that makes your nose hairs feel like they are frozen.
I started a fire in my fireplace for the first time this year, and I loved the ambiance. I could sit and watch a fire for hours, and I usually do. Lol! The problem is that I don’t have any more firewood, so no more fires are in my future. We bought “seasoned” wood a couple of years ago, and it was anything BUT seasoned. Joe even took a blow torch to the wood to try to get it to burn, but it was too wet. It sat there for over a year, and then this year, he gave it away. He does things like that all the time. I told him that I wanted more wood, and he said he would make that happen by Monday. But, I realized my mistake quickly…I forgot to ask him WHICH Monday. Lol! It might be a couple of months before he gets me more wood. Until I get my racks of wood, I am going to send him to the store to buy me those little bundles of kindling that will last for an hour or two. At least I will have my ambiance.
I love this plaid Burberry style ruana. I think that “ruana” is a fancy term for a poncho/wrap/cape item. It will make you sound like you know what you are talking about, and that you are a fashion guru. I have always loved this Burberry plaid look. In fact, I own TWO of these wraps. Lol! One I purchased, and one was a gift. A ruana is not as confining as a poncho, but you also have to adjust them occasionally to keep them from getting twisted.
I hope that you are liking the legging series that I am doing. There is only one day left in this series. I am trying to show you that there are a lot of options available to you with clothing items; you have to think outside the box. I am starting to link a lot of clothing, sales, etc., on the Liketoknow.it app. You download the app on your mobile device, and then you can follow me to see all of the links that I put on there. If you like an outfit, you click on it, and all of the links are available for you. All you have to do it hit the shop now button, and you will be directed to the store that has the item. You can hit the back button to go back to all of the photos. This is a great app for following all of your favorite bloggers and getting their links at your fingertips.

You’re on a roll this week, Tania. Fabulous flattering looks that have inspired me to pull together some new looks from what I already have in my closet. Thanks for the great ideas!
This outfit looks great on you! You can carry off the leather leggings look but I don’t think I can. What size did you get in the white blouse? Your blog has definitely impacted my budget! I find myself either running out to buy something or jumping online to order it. I do appreciate you putting these outfits together for us because it’s just like having a personal shopper/dresser! I live near The Avenue West Cobb where you shopped a few weeks back so I shop The Loft frequently. Thank you for being a top notch blogger. I really enjoy your Sunday messages too!
Great outfit! I’m really enjoying this series about leggings. Thanks for showing us different looks.
Love the ruana plaid too. So classic.
Above you mentioned an app. I am interested in it. I just went to App Store and typed in “like to know it.” It didn’t bring up an app by that name. It brought up “real real” and “forever 21” as the first 2 options. Could you help me brainstorm what I could do to find the app. I sure would appreciate it.
Also wanted to say love this weeks focus on different ways to wear one thing. I too love to cover my tussie so love the reminder today of the high low hem line.
Kristen, did you type it in the app store on your phone? It is a mobile app.
Love your style and how you show so many options to wear each outfit. Your website is wonderful.
Just an idea: An easy way to get ambiance in a fireplace, when don’t have wood to burn, is to fill it with white candles. Instant ambiance! You don’t get the heat but it looks great! Stay warm!

Trina, that sounds like a wonderful idea!!! Thanks so much for giving me the suggestion.
I have learnt something new today – I had never heard of a ruana before! Also another beautiful necklace.

What a flattering outfit!!! You make these simple staples come to life. Thanks for inspiring me to consider this look?
Margo, you are a doll.
I love this outfit! I am not a cold weather person but I do like cold weather fashion. Ha! Almost spit out my coffee when I read what you said about the nose hairs freezing.
Another gorgeous look. You are nailing it this week! ❤️
Thanks for the names and definitions. I never quite know what to to call these wraps but I love them and have several. You really need these in cold climates like most of Canada!
You got my curiosity peaked about the origin/definition of the ruana. I thought the difference between a ruana and a poncho was a ruana is open and a poncho is closed and slips over the head? I think the terms are used interchangably in today’s fashion world!
Here is the wikipedia definition:
A ruana (possibly from Spanish ruana “ragged” or Quechua ruana “textile”[1]) is a poncho-style outer garment typical of the Andes region of Colombia, particularly in the Boyacá department and Antioquia.
Similar to other poncho-like garments in Latin America, a ruana is basically a very thick, soft and sleeveless square or rectangular blanket with an opening in the center for the head to go through with a slit down the front to the hem. A ruana may or may not come with a hood to cover the head.

Loving this series of creating different outfits around the leggings!
