50 IS NOT OLD | A LITTLE BLACK DRESS WITH A STATEMENT JACKET | FASHION OVER 40How many of you still have landline phones? I bet the amount of people who still have landline phones is drastically lower now than it would have been ten years ago. You can count Joe and me in the ones who have finally gone all wireless. We resisted giving up our landline phone until recently. We reasoned that we owned a business, and the landline was a way for someone in town to call us since they could look up the phone number in the directory. Almost all of our calls would come in on our personal cell phones, and the only calls that we got on the landline were robocalls.
50 IS NOT OLD | A LITTLE BLACK DRESS WITH A STATEMENT JACKET | FASHION OVER 40The robocalls were what prompted us to say goodbye to the landline finally. Nowadays, people message us through Facebook if they want to get in touch with us. Lol!!! Boy, how things have changed. I like that my phone goes with me, no more call forwarding. But when your cell service is acting up, you don’t have a backup plan. The internet has been wonky for about a month with everyone complaining about it being slow. I assumed that Verizon would get their act together and have everything back to normal, but now the cell service is acting up also. Three times today, I had to power down my phone and reset it so that I could talk to someone. They would call me, but they couldn’t hear me when I answered. Then, if we were talking, the call would drop suddenly. Ugh, I hate it when I am at the mercy of someone who doesn’t know me, and doesn’t care if I am happy. So, I called Verizon to tell them about the issues that have been going on in town. Is it possible that they didn’t know??? Joe has a saying that I am going to employ until they get the situation fixed, “the squeaky wheel gets the oil.”
50 IS NOT OLD | A LITTLE BLACK DRESS WITH A STATEMENT JACKET | FASHION OVER 40The star of this outfit is my jacket with pearls. I am intentionally wearing a statement piece over my little black dress from Old Navy so that the attention is taken away from the dress. The goal is to make someone focus on the jacket, instead of the fact that I am wearing the same dress that I wore in this post. Each look this week is geared toward a theme, and today’s theme is “a night out” look. I went from a very casual style in yesterday’s post, to a very dressy look in today’s. This is an excellent example of how a plain dress can be used in a multiple of different styles. In case you missed the link for the dress yesterday, here it is again.
50 IS NOT OLD | A LITTLE BLACK DRESS WITH A STATEMENT JACKET | FASHION OVER 40Let’s face it, with an embellished jacket like this; you don’t require a lot of jewelry. I added a single oversized pearl stud called te Shaila. This is a classic earring, and you will be able to wear this with a lot of different outfits. The fact that they are only 8.00 should make it a no-brainer. I also added the Torilynn bracelet that has multiple rows of pearls. It features a magnetic closure, so it is effortless to put on and take off.
50 IS NOT OLD | A LITTLE BLACK DRESS WITH A STATEMENT JACKET | FASHION OVER 40How do you like this beautiful black jacket with all of the pearls? I fell in love with this jacket when I first saw it, and I knew that it was going home with me. This is super old, but it still looks brand new. I honestly don’t wear it a lot, but it makes a big statement when I do. This is by Joan Rivers, and I found a couple of them available on eBay that I’ll link to below. I thought that the look was a classic style, so I added a classic style shoe also. I am wearing black pumps by Coach.  Pumps are a classic style, and you will be able to wear them for years and years. Because they will not be going out of style, I would suggest getting a “good” pair that will last you for a while.

  1. Stunning as always. We live in the country and cell and internet service are spotty. We even had to put up our own internet tower, and it’s still not really dependable. Our family hated not being able to connect with us consistently, so we put in a landline. The robo-calls are ridiculous! And crazy too, every time we get a good storm, we lose our landline! I think the Lord likes to give us our own personal “quiet time!”

The good thing about having a landline was the fact that you could use it when cell service was down. And, when the storms took out the landline, then you could use the cell. But, the robocalls just got too much to handle.

When you are in the country, or in the mountains like me, cell service is spotty for sure!!!

I bet your dress might be a little fancier than the one that I have on, Susanne. But, I wanted to show that you can still dress up a plain dress to make it work for a special occasion.

  3. Love your look today! Fun taking your ideas and making them work for me.

Classically classy! I may tell Joe that I have a new term to describe my style. Lol!

  4. Lovely look, very classy. I will never give up the land, sometimes I take a risk without called ID & answer on a rotary phone. ( I have a few) I helped a friend recently with her family’s estate sale. She didn’t believe that the basic black rotary phone would sell. It sold quickly!

Super Chic Outfit!! I really love it. I’ve always thought a jacket whether it be over a dress, t-shirt and jeans or sweater and and slacks, it turns it up 100 notches to CHIC!!!! You look Great!

The pearl trim adds some light around your face and softens the black, but I still think color, color, color is your friend.

  7. Aren’t landlines needed for 911 calls to find your location easily?
